Both teams are trying to rebound from a loss. Last Tuesday, the Billikens fell to No. 5 Oklahoma at Chaifetz Arena, while the Cardinals were edged at Alabama. LAST TIME OUT Atlantic 10 Conference scoring leader Theresa Lisch netted a game-high 19 points in the Billikens loss to Oklahoma. Lisch added four assists, two blocks and two steals. Lauren Woods scored a season-high 12 points, made a careerhigh four steals and tacked on fi ve rebounds. Heather King tallied 10 points and six rebounds, while Amanda Kemezys contributed nine points and a team-high nine boards. The Bills produced season highs of 27 free throws made and 39 free-throw attempts. COMING UP Saint Louis wraps up its non-conference schedule Tuesday with a trip to Hampton of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Billikens will try to avenge last season s overtime loss to the Lady Pirates in St. Louis. GETTING BACK AT THE MAC The Billikens have had little success against Mid-American Conference teams. SLU is 5-16 against the MAC, with two victories against Ball State and one win apiece against Akron, Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan. Saint Louis edged Western Michigan earlier this season at Chaifetz Arena on a last-second 3-pointer by Theresa Lisch. THE BALL STATE SERIES The Cardinals lead the series 4-2. Ball State has won the last three meetings, including a decision in Muncie, Ind., when the teams last met four seasons ago. SLU has captured two of the three games in St. Louis. CHAIFETZ ARENA Saint Louis University s new Chaifetz (SHAY-fetz) Arena debuts this season. The arena houses the department of athletics offi ces as well as a practice facility for the basketball and volleyball teams, Chaifetz Pavilion. The building is named after Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz, who donated a $12 million naming gift to the University. A 1975 SLU graduate, Dr. Chaifetz is chairman and CEO of ComPsych Corp. GIMME SHIMMY Shimmy Gray-Miller is in her fourth season as the Billikens head coach. Inheriting a team that won only four games during the campaign, her fi rst SLU squad went However, Gray-Miller led the Bills to a record that included the program s fi rst conference tournament victory since 2002, a win over Richmond. Last season s team posted a mark. A 1994 University of Michigan graduate, Gray-Miller is the sixth head coach in Saint Louis women s basketball history and carries a career record. IT S A FAMILY AFFAIR When Theresa Lisch scored her 1,000th career point at Colorado, she and her brother, Kevin, became members of an elite group in college basketball history. They are one of just four known sister-brother combinations in NCAA Division I to score at least 1,000 points at the same school. The other three are Rashanda (1,276 points/2005-present) and Rashad (1,721/ ) McCants of North Carolina; Chari (1,964/ ) and Jeff (1,214/ ) Nordgaard of Wisconsin- Green Bay; and Ann (1,685/ ) and David (1,046/ ) Meyers of UCLA. Theresa Lisch ranks 13th on the SLU women s career scoring list with 1,030 points, just 34 behind 12th-place Nancy Mueller. Kevin Lisch ranks eighth on the men s chart with 1,422 points (prior to Jan. 2 game). BOARD GAME Saint Louis has out-rebounded fi ve of its last seven opponents and is a combined +27 (3.9 per game) on the boards during that stretch. For the season, the Bills have gained the upper hand seven times and have tied one opponent. Two of the fi ve opponents that have out-rebounded SLU have earned the edge by just one carom. ON TARGET The Billikens are fi fth in the Atlantic 10 in 3-point percentage, connecting at a 35.9-percent clip (56-of-156). Theresa Lisch is tied for seventh in the league in 3-pointers per game (1.92). LISCH THE LEADER Theresa Lisch continues to pace the A-10 in scoring with 18.5 points per game. She is 2.3 points per game ahead of the league s No. 2 scorer. Her 32-point performance at Morehead State is tied for the highest scoring output by an A-10 women s player this season. Lisch is also third in the conference with an 86.4 percent (76-of-88) free-throw shooting mark. She has made 41 of her last 42 free throws including a 12-of-12 effort at Wyoming, the best foul-shooting performance by an A-10 player (female or male) this year. SECOND CHANCES As they were last season, the Billikens are strong on the offensive glass. Saint Louis ranks third in the A-10 with 14.3 offensive rebounds per game and holds a edge (+2.77 per game) over its opponents in that category. Heather King is tied for ninth in the conference in offensive rebounding with a 2.62 average. STRONG AT THE STRIPE The Billikens are shooting 75.6 percent (93-of-123) from the foul line in their last fi ve games, lifting their season mark from 66 percent to 69.7 percent. The Bills have averaged 24 free throws made in their last three outings. CLIMBING THE CAREER LISTS On the SLU 3-point fi eld goals career chart, Katie Paganelli is sixth with 105 treys, while Theresa Lisch is seventh with 103. Lisch has moved into third place in free throws made with 313, while Amanda Kemezys ranks ninth with 52 blocks. LISCH HONORED BY A-10 Atlantic 10 Conference head women s basketball coaches and media representatives voted junior guard Theresa Lisch to the preseason All- Conference second team. Lisch was a third-team All-Conference selection last season. The Billikens were tabbed to fi nish 10th in the upcoming league race. POOH CAN DO Freshman guard Janisha Pooh Gearlds chipped in two points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal vs. Oklahoma had two points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal at Colorado tied for game-high honors with a seasonhigh six assists and added two points, four rebounds and a steal at Wyoming tied her season high with fi ve rebounds and collected three assists vs. Oakland contributed nine points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists at Canisius had one point, four rebounds and an assist vs. Princeton tallied fi ve points, four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal vs. TCU had a season-high six steals, three points, four rebounds and a team-high three assists vs. Missouri State tied for teamhigh scoring honors with 12 points to go along with a team-high three assists, two steals and a rebound vs. Creighton scored 11 points, tied her season high with fi ve rebounds and added two assists and a steal in a team- and season-high 37 minutes vs. Kansas tallied season highs of 14 points (5-of-5 FG, including two treys) and fi ve rebounds and added two assists and a block at Morehead State earned her fi rst collegiate start vs. Western Michigan and registered six points, two assists, one rebound and one steal scored eight points on 3-of-3 shooting, including a 3-pointer, and added four rebounds (three offensive), game highs of fi ve assists and three steals, and a block at Southern Illinois. FIT FOR A KING Senior forward Heather King posted 10 points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal vs. Oklahoma had two points and six rebounds (four offensive) at Colorado scored a season-high 12 points (all in the second half) and grabbed six rebounds at Wyoming produced her fourth career doubledouble (10 points on 5-of-6 FG, team-high 10 rebounds) and added two assists and a steal vs. Oakland scored two points, tied for team-high rebounding honors with six boards, tied her career best with four steals and added a block at Canisius chalked up four points, fi ve rebounds and a steal vs. Princeton scored 10 points (4-of-5 FG), secured a team-high eight rebounds (fi ve offensive) and had an assist vs. TCU contributed two points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals vs. Missouri State had six points, fi ve rebounds, two blocks and a steal vs. Creighton registered nine points, a season-high 11 rebounds (tied team high, eight offensive) and blocked a shot vs. Kansas chipped in two points, three rebounds, two steals and a block at Morehead State scored four points, collected six rebounds and added a block vs. Western Michigan contributed four points on 2-of-2 shooting, two steals and one rebound at Southern Illinois.
