4 1. Introduction GOALCHA focuses on the play, movement, challenges and good experiences with the GOALCHA-ball. Emphasis is placed on building up a new kind of movement culture, where the ball is the instrument and center of all activities. GOALCHA proves that technical training can be great fun and it does not need to be a boring unit. Better throwing through Technical Training You can t start soon enough with the technical training. For tricky techniques, like screwer or straight shots, it is essential that the children can safely grab the ball. The different exercises can only succeed if the ball fits into the hands of children. The special characteristics of the GOALCHA-ball (good grip, compressible, different sizes circumference 42 cm and 47 cm) make it easier for the players to control the ball and to learn technical skills such as passes, throws and tricks. Only if the players can safely grab the ball, than they can focus the training on the essentials: A situational ball acceptance in motion and A technically clean execution of the throw o Throw display, guided arm movement, use of forearm and wrist etc. Challenging tasks irritate and inspire The exercises with the GOALCHA-ball distinguished primarily by the fact that they teach the children in addition to a variety of technical training first fundamental individual tactical skills through fun. 5 2. Technical Handball Training with the GOALCHA-Ball The purpose of using the GOALCHA-Ball in the technical handball training is to promote the learning situation and the development phase of children s and youngsters technical skills with the ball, with respect to develop the patterns of movement, coordination, timing and change of pace in different forms of passes, variations of shots and tricks, etc. The GOALCHA-Ball is hand sewed out of synthetic leather and filled with synthetic wool. The GOALCHA-Ball can easily be compressed, thus the ball can easily be caught and controlled. The special surface facilitates the grasping and control of the ball. Cuddling Squeezing Original form The soft nature of the GOALCHA-Ball makes it easy for the players to control the ball, as you can squeeze it with the outermost joints of the fingers and thereby get a unique grip of the ball. The grip of the ball and the control is essential for most of the individual skills in the game of handball. It is important that the players are successful in the learning phase of a selection of technical aspects and are not inhibited or limited by failing grip and control. When the patterns of movement with the GOALCHA-Ball are adopted, they are never forgotten, and the precondition of executing and performing the technical detail with a traditional handball is literally at hand. Motivation through Success The GOALCHA-Ball is unique in the technical handball training. As an example in the training of tricks the player s failing control of a traditional inflatable handball will tend to remove the focus on the patterns of movement of the body; instead you can highly benefit from using the GOALCHA-Ball in the learning and development phase. The correct patterns of movement of the legs, the body and the arms in the performance of the trick are being instilled and in the process in which the players are rewarded with the best possible ability to develop a good trick. It must be stressed for the participants, that the ball must be a part of creating the good experiences and promote the feeling of succeeding with the details. Therefore it is not intended to hard hitting or to make ferocious shots, which may even cause of overburdening the shoulder region as a negative side effect. With the GOALCHA-Ball the handball players get a technique and education ball, which they can use in their development and for training purposes, but also as part of their playing practices at home, in school, among their friends, etc. Copyright 2015 GOALCHA GmbH. 6 3. Theory of the movement of throwing and shooting In the game of handball the player s technique and ability to shoot at the goal is of vital importance for many of the actions with the ball in the hand. Therefore pattern of movement in the process of shooting is central in this topic. The general considerations of a shot is that the shot arm and the hand must accelerate up to a certain pace to get enough power and speed to the ball to get to the goal and pass the goalkeeper. The shot movement is starting with a run-up followed by an initial tightening of the throwing muscles which thereby is transformed into shooting power. The speed of the run-up is limited by a stem step, simultaneously drawing back the shot arm. The stem step is used either to make a standing or a jumping shot, where the shot movement itself start with a central movement where the hip is moved forwards, thereupon the body and at last the shot arm itself. In the course of this central movement other parts of the body are used to make a maximum acceleration in the shot arm itself. Finally the grip of the ball, the position of the arm and the very implementation of the wrist are all vital importance s for the force, the placing and the potential of the shot. Therefore the following elements are important in the shot itself: Run-up and change of speed in the last steps The stem step The initial tightening of the muscles the arm being drawn back The grip of the ball The acceleration of the throwing arm Arms position The implementation of the wrist 4. Method When the GOALCHA-ball is being used in the learning process and development of the technical aspects of the game of handball, it is important that the distance to the goal is not too long, so that the players are not forced to shoot hard at the cost of focusing on the movement and the execution of the shot. As an example in connection with a standing shot the players often tend to use more energy at the force of the shot prior to the execution and placing, if the distance does not get too long. More Focus on the Shot Technique and the Placing of the Ball Furthermore the GOALCHA-ball has not been developed for hard shots, which may cause of burdening the shoulder region. It is recommended that you work with relatively small goals and goal fields than the traditional ones, and that mini courses and mini goals are fantastic in this respect. Hereby the players will take a focus on a higher degree on the shot technique and the options for placing the ball in connection with the shot. Copyright 2015 GOALCHA GmbH. All rights reserved! 7 High Activity Level By using mini courses and mini goals it is possible to establish 4 to six stations in the hall, where the players do not need to stand in line waiting for the next action towards the goal to take place. The essential focus is on getting so many actions with the ball in their hands as possible. In the organization of the technical training it is important that the players get as much space and opportunity for practicing experiments and test self-elected technical details, without the interference of the coach. The players initiative, creativity and experience often result in the players and the coach discovering new possibilities and potentials for the players individual development. 5. Passes and shots The grip of the GOALCHA-ball is an important and central factor to be able to carry out various types of passes and shots. A good grip improves the possibility to use the arm in many different positions. And the players who are capable of having an open arm in the moments of shots and passes have better chances of variations and selecting among different solutions as the occasion bids. An open arm is characterized by a high arm or the ball being as far away from your body as possible. The movement of the wrist also has a big impact on the implementation of the passes and shots. The players who are capable of involving the wrist as a conscious part of the completion of the pass or shot will often have better chances of placing the ball or drawing it around in the goal at will and achieving a higher force of their shots. Furthermore it will enable more opportunities for passes in the situation at hand. In the Passing exercises it is recommended that the players practice as many different arm positions and forms of passes as possible. In the Shooting exercises the focus will be on the movement of the arm and the coordination between the arm and the wrist. To establish a common framework of reference between players and coach it is useful to distinguish between three positions in the implementation of the shot: High arm o where the focus is on the tips of the fingers pointing upwards Arm out from shoulder o where the focus is on the tips of the finger pointing out towards the wall Low arm o where the focus is on the tips of the fingers pointing downwards Copyright 2015 GOALCHA GmbH. 8 6. Tricks A good grip of the ball has a big importance for the players ability to focus on the movements, the timing and the change of speed in connection with the various tricks. Furthermore the grip of the ball and the control of the ball have a big importance for the players ability to actively use their shot and ball arms in connection with the trick in question and getting a free and open arm in the last part of the trick and the final phase. As an example in a so-called Radjenovic-trick the player will actively be able to use the shot arm to create power and explosive force in the very side shift and thereby coming in a better position, partly free of the defender and creating an optimal shooting situation. In the trick exercises the focus will be on basic elements as: The pattern of movement with the ball The position of the finishing shot arm The change of speed The progression will focus on the timing of: The run-up phase and the movements without the ball The distance to the defence Copyright 2015 GOALCHA GmbH.
