Winners of four consecutive ACC contests, the 15th-ranked Duke women s basketball team (15-4, 4-2 ACC) will travel down Tobacco Road Sunday, Jan. 21 to face North Carolina (13-6, 3-3) at 2:30 p.m., in Carmichael Arena. Sunday s game will be aired live on RSN-TV with Tom Werme (PXP) and LaChina Robinson (Color) calling the action. The Blue Devils will play four out of the next five games at home. Three Keys... Duke has won seven straight contests against the Tar Heels, including three in a row in Chapel Hill. The Blue Devils have averaged 78.6 points, while holding UNC to 64.1 points during the streak. After scoring only 13 points the previous two games, Haley Gorecki busted out with a career-high 28 points at Virginia Tech. She hit a career-high 7-of-10 three-pointers and 9-of-14 field goals. Gorecki ranks 13th in the ACC in scoring and ninth in assists (5.2) in league games only. Fifth-year senior Lexie Brown is the only active player in the NCAA with 1,800 points, 500 assists, 200 three-pointers and 250 steals over her career at Duke and Maryland. Brown is also only four steals from reaching 300 and when she gets it she would join elite company. She would join only Niesa Johnson (Alabama) and Odyssey Sims (Baylor) as NCAA Division I players to accumulate over 1,800 points, 500 assists, 200 three-pointers and 300 steals. After allowing over 70 points one time this season heading into the Virginia Tech contest, Duke allowed a season-high 75 points against the Hokies. The Blue Devils have now allowed only two opponents to hit the 70-point mark, which is tied for an ACC best along with Clemson. Freshman Jade Williams has started four straight games and ranks tied first in the ACC in blocks per game (2.0) in league games. In the four starts, she has averaged 5.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.8 blocks. Lexie Brown and Rebecca Greenwell combined for 50 points at Wake Forest. It marked the fifth time the tandem have combined for 50 or more points over the last two years (Old Dominion, WFU), (Longwood, Old Dominion, Miami). Since moving into the starting lineup 10 games ago, redshirt sophomore Haley Gorecki has emerged as one of the top scoring guards in the ACC. At Wake Forest, she had her seven-game double-digit scoring streak snapped with five points. In the 10 starts, Gorecki has averaged 15.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.9 steals. She now 4 ranks 13th in the ACC in scoring for ACC games only with a 15.8 average, while also ranking ninth in assists (4.2), tied fourth in three-point field goals made (3.2) and third in three-point field goal percentage (54.3). The 6-0 guard totaled a career-high 28 points at Virginia Tech as she drained 7-of-10 three-pointers. The seven three-pointers was a career high and the most by a Hokie opponent in the history of Cassell Stadium. After scoring only 11 points over her last three contests, Rebecca Greenwell broke out with a seasonhigh 23 points at Wake Forest and along the way set the Duke career three-pointers made record. McCallie is the 39th NCAA coach to reach the 600-win mark with a record of Boykin to Miss Remainder of Duke freshman guard Mikayla Boykin will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a left knee injury in the Blue Devils win over Winthrop Sunday, Dec. 10. She had surgery Jan. 2 to repair the injury. Boykin started the first eight contests of the season and averaged 4.6 points, 3.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals a game. The 5-9 guard from Clinton, N.C., opened her collegiate career on the road at Grand Canyon with a season-high 12 points and was a preseason ACC Newcomer Watch List selection. Lambert to Miss Season... Junior Kyra Lambert announced she will miss the season, after suffering a torn ACL in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Lambert will have two years of eligibility remaining. She has started 56-of-65 games as a Blue Devil. Wooden Award Candidates... Both Rebecca Greenwell and Lexie Brown were named two of 30 candidates for the John R. Wooden Award, which is awarded annually to the National Player of the Year in women s basketball. Duke continues its theme of having tall teams in as the Blue Devils will feature fifth-tallest team in school history standing an average of inches. On September 28, 2017, senior Erin Mathias debuted her Erin Mathias Designs fashion collection in front of the Duke Chapel. She held a fashion show that included teammates, practice players and other Blue Devil student-athletes. Mathias has been working on her clothing line for a couple of years. She is majoring in visual arts and media studies along with an innovation and entrepreneurship certificate. She is working on trying to produce an outfit for Coach P to wear during a game this season. Three in Duke Fuqua... The Blue Devils currently feature three studentathletes enrolled in the MMS Program at the Duke Fuqua School of Business. The trio of Lexie Brown, Bego Faz Davalos and Rebecca Greenwell enrolled in July. Duke also has a manager, Erin Webber, in the MMS program this year as well, who graduated from Washington State. Blue Devils Travel to Italy... From Aug , 2017, the Blue Devils traveled to Rome, Florence, Bologna, Siena and Venice, Italy, which ended up being a trip of a lifetime. Duke played three contests, while on the trip, and toured many different famous sights. The Blue Devils defeated Netherlands (84-66), Italian All-Stars (119-33) and lost to Celje Basketball Club (78-65). Duke had to play the final game against Celje without Lexie Brown, Rebecca Greenwell and Bego Faz Davalos, who had to go back to the U.S., for exams at Duke Fuqua. Belton Moves to the Sidelines... After going through three injury-plagued seasons with the Blue Devils, Lyneé Belton decided to take a medical hardship and will be a student assistant coach with Duke in She had played in 57 games over her career prior to hanging up her kicks.
