Outlet on a Missed Basket.. "The Dead Zone": On any Make or Miss we want the ball to be sent to the Outlet Man out of the Any pass backwards kills any chance for an easy basket.. Designated Roles:. "The Outlet" - Our Point Guard or ( Man) is the automatic outlet man. Make or Miss he is flying to the basketball. His positioning should be in the outer portion of the "Alley".. "Inbounder" - Our inbound man is our ( Man). On all makes he is sprinting to the basketball and getting it to the outlet man quickly. He will then fill into the opposite "The Dead Zone" - It is imperative that the ball be passed to the Outlet Man outside the "Dead Zone". The quicker the basketball gets to half court the better the chance we have of scoring in transition. A) On Missed Shots nothing changes. B) Whoever gets the Rebound should look Outlet first. C) If the Man is not on the Ball Side, then he should sprint to the ball to begin the break. D) Man (or Rebounder) just fills the Opposite pg.

Cross the "Rim Line". "The First Three Steps" - Once the rebound is secured "Wing" players (/) needs to sprint into the "Rails" along the sidelines. ) Back to the Sideline. ) Eyes Back to the Ball. Scorer's Mentality: We are looking to push the ball to those Wing players running the Rails. Once you receive the ball in the front court you are thinking ) Score. "We want to pressure the Rim on every possession." "Man Ahead Principle" - If there is a Man Ahead of You, and he's open, Give it Up. Outlet Reads: ) Wings Running the Rail ) Rim Runner ) Cross the Rim Line to Opposite Rail ) The Ball Side Rail is denied, and the Rim Runner is behind you. ) Then you Cross the Rim Line & Push it hard up to the Man.. The Man is thinking Attack & Score! pg.

"The Motion Line" Reads: ) Drive to Rim. ) Hit Rim Runner ) Kick Back to PG Run the Rail & Read Progression. Bounce off the Baseline. Scorer's Mentality & Secondary Reads: On the catch the wings players should be thinking score first, pass second. If there is no path to the basket then then then your progression. If you are the Wing player who did not get the ball, then you should: ) Continue your run all the way to the Corner. ) Bounce back up to the Motion Line. ) Rim - Your Scoring Opportunity. ) Post - Hit the Rim Runner in the Paint ) Kick Back - Pass the ball back out to the PG pg.

The PG has made his Reads; No Drive Available, No Post Available, so now he swings the ball. The Trailer ( Man) Should Read his Man: ) He is Being Denied = Immediate Down Screen. ) Man is Helping in Paint = Settle into the Slot for the Pass. Read the Trailer (cont'd.). The Trailer ( Man) Should Read his Man: ) He is Being Denied = Immediate Down Screen. ) Man is Helping in Paint = Settle into the Slot for the Pass. Motion Offense Rules: Once the ball is swung to the Man we are now in our Motion Offense. pg.

6 Full Court Trips Drills to Build the Habits Full Court Trips Full Court Trips Full Court Trips Full Court Trips. Goal - As one of our Core Transition Drills we are trying to drills the Reads & Habits that we would like to see in our Transition Offense. Begin the Drill: ) Designated Player Shoots the Free Throw (/). ) The PG () Lines Up on the Rim Line just beyond the Three Point Line. ) Make or Miss the ball will be inbound to the PG outside of the Trip #: Lay-Up for Man. A) quickly inbounds the ball to the who takes two hard dribbles up the court and hits the man with a chest pass. C) The man receives the pass and attacks the basket for a lay-up. D) Man is Rim Running and is "Cleaning Up" after the Man's lay-up. E) The Man is sprinting to the baseline & bouncing back to the Motion Line. "Cleaning Up" - After the made lay-up the five man is taking the ball from out of the net and finishing again. (This will buy the time for the Man to sprint to the baseline). Trip #: Lay-Up for Man. A) Man inbounds to who takes two hard dribbles up the sideline. B) The Man makes the chest pass to the Man who attacks the Rim for the lay-up. C) Man is "Cleaning Up" the lay-up. D) Man is sprinting to the baseline & bouncing back to the Motion Line. pg. 6

7 Full Court Trips Drills to Build the Habits Full Court Trips Full Court Trips Full Court Trips x x x x x Trip #: Lay-Up for Man. Trip #: Lay-Up for Trailer ( Man). Trip #: v. Possession. A) Man inbounds the ball to the Man who takes two hard dribbles up the courts pushing the ball up to the Man. B) The Man is Rim Running Hard, & the Man will hit him with the pass for the lay-up. C) The Man is running to the baseline & bouncing back to the Motion Line. A) The Man inbounds to the Man who take two hard dribbles and pushes the ball up to the man. B) The Man checks the post and then Kicks it back out to the PG. C) The Man then swings the ball to the Trailer ( Man) who either shoots the Three-Pointer or Drives it to the Rim. D) The Man runs all the way to the baseline and then bounces back to the Motion Line. A) The ball is inbound, & pushed up the sideline. B) On the other end is a group of five defenders ready to play on. Recycle the Drill: That Defensive Group of then begins their version of Full Court Trips. On the fifth trip a new group awaits. pg. 7

8 The Rim Run Drill Drills to Build the Habits The Rim Run Drill The Rim Run Drill Passer Rotation after each Turn. Make Sure to Stay out of the Way of Rim Runners! The Rim Run Drill. Goal: We are emphasizing the need for our / players to Run the Floor Hard looking for easy buckets in transition. Perimeter Player Rotations. Make sure the Perimeter Players are rotating lines. Team Positioning: Players Numbered "" - would be your / Men. Players Numbered "-" - would be any Perimeter Players that are usually numbered "-" A) / Men throw the ball off the background, rebound it, and snap an outlet pass to the Outlet Lines (, pictured). B) The Outlet Lines take two hard dribbles and push it up to the Passer Lines (, pictured) C) The Passing Line will hit the Big Men Sprinting the Floor. D) The Next / Man Steps on to Enter the Drill. pg. 8

9 Perimeter Push & Finish Drills to Build the Habits Perimeter Push & Finish Perimeter Push & Finish Cones Denote where the Lines Start. Everyone Moves Lines to the Right. Perimeter Push & Finish. Goal: To build the Habit of the "Man Ahead Principle" and pushing the ball with the pass. We're also trying to reinforce that "Scorer's Mentality" that we want our Wings to have in Transition. A) Throws the ball off the Backboard & Outlets it. B) The "Outlet Line" takes two hard dribbles and passes it up to the line above them. C) The Finishing Lines (/ Pictured) then attack the rim for a lay-up. Rotations. Lines - - You are moving to your right after each turn. Outlet Lines go to the finishing lines, & Finishing Lines go to the Outlet Lines. Line - After each Outlet Pass the Big Man Lines should rotate. pg. 9

10 Advanced Perimeter Push & Finish Drills to Build the Habits Advanced Perimeter Push & Finish Advanced Perimeter Push & Finish ADVANCED: Kick Back to the PG. Rotations. A) The Passing Line Attacks to the Corner then Kick the Ball back to the PG Trailing the Play. B) The PG is Looking to "Catch & Shoot" on the pass. C) The ball should be rebounded & then given to the " Men" for the next rep. A) & Will "Catch & Shoot" on the Kick Back Pass from the Corner. B) Once they shoot they go to the "Passer Lines" (/) C) The "Passing Lines" (/) will rebound & get the ball to the Men. D) Follow the same Rotations as before. pg. 0

11 Drills to Build the Habits Mentality Drills ( v., v. ) Mentality Drills ( v., v. ) Mentality Drills ( v., v. ) Mentality Drills ( v., v. ) Attack Line: Once you have the ball past the "Attack Line" then you are thinking "Score". No cute passes. No Jumpers. You are attacking, thinking "Score"! x x "Attack Drill" Concept Goal: What we're trying to instill here is that once the ball has been pushed passed the "Attack Line" they are thinking score and not about anything else. We Don't Want: Jumpers, Pull-Ups, Cute Passes in the Paint. v. "Attack Drill" Line : (Scorer's Line) Dribbles as hard as they can out and then around the outer cone. They are attacking the Rim looking to score. Line : (Defense Line) They are sprinting around the inner cone and then chasing the ball to try and get a stop. They are not taking charges, but looking to contest the shot or strip it going up. * The next pair goes one "Line 's" Movement... v. "Attack Drill" Goal: The Concept is the same as well, we are thinking "Attack" and get a lay-up. The Offense is allowed "One Pass" but that is it. As Line approaches the rim he is reading "Rim First, Pass Second". *If pass isn't made at the Elbow, you must attack to score & let your teammates Offensive Rebound. Defense: Your job is to force them to make that extra pass, or get a deflection. pg.

Goal: To have a Live Drill where a relevant balance of players are defending the Transition Offense. A) Coach throws the ball off of the Backboard. B) Rebounds it & outlets it to the Man. C) The Man takes two hard dribbles & begins the Fast Break. Defensive Restrictions & Play. A) As soon as the ball is outlet to the Man, X can sprint back into Transition Defense. B) As soon as the ball crosses Half Court, X & X can enter the Defensive Possession. *Offensive Goals: Remember Your Transition Read Progressions:. Rim. Post. Swing Run it Back. * Make or Miss the Drill will Run Back in Transition & Get a Score on their own. A) X Should Fly to the Outlet. B) X/X Should be Running the Rails. C) / Should be Rim Running & Trailing. pg.
