SETTING THE STAGE Green Bay (9-2) rings in the New Year by hosting St. Bonaventure (7-7) for the first all-time meeting in the final nonconference matchup of the season. The Phoenix returns home after picking up a win at Wichita State on Dec. 30, its fourth-straight victory. Senior Sarah Eichler led Green Bay with 15 points while only missing one shot from the field. St. Bonaventure comes to Green Bay with a 7-7 record following a home loss to North Carolina State on Dec. 30. The Bonnies are 4-1 at home this season, but 3-6 away from the Reilly Center during the campaign. Both Green Bay and St. Bonaventure had success in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, with the Phoenix advancing to the second round before falling in a close matchup against Kentucky while St. Bonaventure fell in the Sweet 16 to eventual tournament runner-up Notre Dame. THREE-POINT PLAY 1. Inside Job: Over the past four games Green Bay has dominated in the post, outscoring its opponents in the paint. The Phoenix tied a season high with 46 points in the paint against NDSU on Dec. 18, posted an impressive 38-6 margin while hosting Wisconsin on Dec. 23 and held a 26-6 advantage in the win at Wichita State. 2. Eichler Excels: In the win at Wichita State, senior Sarah Eichler hit 5-of-6 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from long range. The Grafton, Wis. native has a team-high 41.9 threepoint shooting percentage and has scored 20 or more points on two occasions this season. Eichler was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Nov. 26, and is now just 115 points away from becoming the 31st member of the Green Bay women s basketball 1,000-point club. 3. Can t Resist the Assist: Green Bay has 174 assists through 11 games this season, led by redshirt sophomore Megan Lukan with 3.9 per game. The Phoenix posted 17 assists on 23 field goals in the win at Wichita State, with five players recording two or more shares. St. Bonaventure had the most success of these opponents, as the Bonnies received a No. 5 seed for the 2012 NCAA Tournament. St. Bonaventure advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to No. 1 seed and eventual runner-up Notre Dame. Starting Sension: With Green Bay returning four of its five starters this season, senior Stephanie Sension fills the fifth spot for the Phoenix in the starting line-up. Sension has shined in her starting role, averaging 11.4 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-3 Hopkins, Minn. native also has a team-high six blocks this season. Yo, Adrian!: At 15.5 points and 3.8 assists per game, senior Adrian Ritchie continues to lead the Phoenix offense this season. The De Pere, Wis. native became the 30th member of the Green Bay women s basketball 1,000-point club on Nov. 30 against Indianapolis, and tied a career-high with eight assists against NDSU on Dec. 18. Ritchie is eleventh in the Horizon League in field goal percentage (43.8) and also has a Horizon League-best 33 steals on the season, averaging 3.0 per game. The Phoenix also completed its 35th-consecutive winning season in , which ranks third all-time behind Louisiana Tech and Tennessee who both have 39. Home Sweet Home: Today s contest kicks off a three-game homestand for the Phoenix, the longest streak of home games through the first 11 games of the season. Horizon League Opener: Green Bay will open Horizon League play with two consecutive home conference games next week, with games on Tuesday against Detroit and Saturday against Wright State. The Phoenix defeated Detroit in the 2012 Horizon League Tournament Championship game. Eichler has 885 career points while Lydia Bauer has amassed 761 points throughout her career, including 18 in Green Bay s win vs. Indianapolis. Eichler posted her second 20-point game of the season against NDSU, and had a career-high 26 points against Richmond in the final game of the 2012 Cancun Challenge. The Green Bay women s basketball program has 30 total members in its 1,000-point club, with 18 accomplishing this feat since the program went Division I in Chari Nordgaard ( ) is the all-time leader with 1,964 career points. Fabulous Freshmen: This year s freshman class consists of seven players with five true freshmen and two redshirt freshmen. The Phoenix has the second largest freshman class among Horizon League opponents with UIC having eight freshman on its roster. True freshman Kaili Lukan had a career day in Green Bay s win at Marquette on Dec. 8. The younger of the Phoenix s two Lukans posted six points and had a game-high six steals while playing 17 minutes all career highs for the Barrie, Ontario, Canada native, who leads all Green Bay freshman with an average of 8.3 minutes per game. Fellow true freshman Brionna Barnett averages 5.9 minutes per game, providing a spark off the bench at guard. Redshirt freshmen Taylor Thomas and Ellen Edison are averaging 3.9 and 3.5 minutes per game respectively. Horizon League Success: Green Bay looks to continue its success in Horizon League play as it currently leads the nation winning 14 consecutive regular season conference titles. The Phoenix has also captured 11 tournament titles. Under Borseth s leadership from , Green Bay compiled an impressive record against Horizon League opponents, which currently ranks second in the league record book. This year s senior class is 26-1 against Horizon League foes on its home court. In the Horizon League preseason poll, the Phoenix was picked to finish first, receiving 25 of a possible 27 first place votes. Not only did the hiring excite Phoenix fans by welcoming back a legendary coach, but it also lured Borseth away from a job in the Big Ten Conference and in his home state. 5 Inside Phoenix Basketball Green Bay basketball head coaches Kevin Borseth and Brian Wardle join host Matt Menzl at Hagemeister Park in downtown Green Bay on Monday evenings for Inside Phoenix Basketball presented by Miller Lite. In the first 30 minutes, Wardle and Menzl recap and preview men s basketball games, with occassional player and other special guests making appearances. In the second half hour, Borseth joins Menzl on set for his inaugural season of Inside Phoenix Basketball. In the last edition, the two discussed the women s team s (5-1) victory over Indianapolis, the upcoming road games at Central Michigan and Marquette, and the upcoming Horizon League schedule. After joining the 1,000-point club last week, Adrian Ritchie joined Borseth and Menzl to discuss her outstanding accomplishment.
