Since Heinz Field opened in 2001, the have averaged at least 57,000 fans per game each season. Pittsburgh had a season-high 62,295 fans in Week 7 versus Baltimore. The have sold out 325 straight regular-season games at home, dating back to Nov. 5, 1972 versus Cincinnati. 6 REVIEW MEDIA INFORMATION FOOTBALL STAFF 2014 PLAYERS Game 1 TENNESSEE 16 PITTSBURGH 9 SEPTEMBER 8, 2013 HEINZ FIELD (61,585) PITTSBURGH The lost their 2013 home opener to the Tennessee Titans, It marked the first home-opening loss since the 2002 season. On the opening kickoff, Titans RB Darius Reynaud fielded the ball just outside the goal line, and then took a knee into the end zone for a safety. It marked the first time that there was a safety on the opening kickoff since September 18, 1988 (New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys). Midway through the second quarter, QB Ben Roethlisberger s pass to WR Emmanuel Sanders was picked off by CB Alterraun Verner. Tennessee then went 49 yards on 12 plays on a drive that took up almost seven minutes of clock time. RB Jackie Battle scored on a three-yard run to cap off the drive and give the Titans a 7-2 lead. Late in the third quarter, K Rob Bironas connected on a 26-yard field goal to give the Titans a 10-2 lead. Bironas made a 44-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter to extend Tennessee s lead, And with less than four minutes remaining in the game, Bironas connected on a 27-yard field goal to give the Titans a 16-2 lead. Late in the game, Roethlisberger led the team on a nine-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off with a fouryard touchdown pass to WR Jerricho Cotchery. On the drive, Roethlisberger surpassed 30,000 passing yards to become just the 35th quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least 30,000 yards. Despite the loss, the defense held its opponent to less than 17 points for the ninth-consecutive home opener. 7 Game 2 CINCINNATI 20 PITTSBURGH 10 SEPTEMBER 16, 2013 PAUL BROWN STADIUM (64,585) CINCINNATI The lost their AFC North opener, 20-10, to the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. Pittsburgh scored on their second drive of the game, thanks in large part to WR Antonio Brown s 40-yard punt return, which set the up in Bengals territory. K Shaun Suisham connected on a 44-yard field goal to give Pittsburgh a 3-0 lead. Midway through the first quarter, the marched into Bengals territory. QB Ben Roethlisberger found TE David Paulson for a 34-yard completion but Paulson fumbled the football before he was down. Cincinnati then took over and QB Andy Dalton led the team on a five-play, 87-yard drive that was capped off by RB Giovani Bernard s seven-yard touchdown run. Early in the second quarter, Cincinnati extended their lead, 10-3, on K Mike Nugent s 41-yard field goal. Later in the quarter, WR Emmanuel Sanders had a 43-yard reception that went to the Bengals one-yard line. On the very next play, Roethlisberger found WR Derek Moye for a one-yard score. Chicago raced out to a 17-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. K Robbie Gould connected on a 47-yarder on the Bears opening drive of the game. On the first possession, QB Ben Roethlisberger was sacked and stripped by LB D.J. Williams and the Bears took over at the 17-yard line. Four plays later, RB Matt Forte scored on a five-yard run to increase Chicago s lead, After forcing Pittsburgh to punt, Forte had a 55-yard run to the five-yard line. 9 Game 4 MINNESOTA 34 PITTSBURGH 27 SEPTEMBER 29, 2013 WEMBLEY STADIUM (83,518) LONDON Pittsburgh fell short in its attempt to rally from a 17-point second-half deficit and lost to the Minnesota Vikings, 34-27, at Wembley Stadium. The Vikings scored 10 points in the first seven minutes of the game. K Blair Walsh connected on a 54-yard field goal to give Minnesota a 3-0 lead, and on the Vikings next drive, QB Matt Cassel found WR Greg Jennings for a 70-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead, On the ensuing drive, QB Ben Roethlisberger led the team on an eight-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off by an eight-yard rushing touchdown by rookie RB Le Veon Bell. On the Vikings next drive, RB Adrian Peterson scored on a 60-yard touchdown run to extend Minnesota s lead to K Shaun Suisham made a 26-yard field goal late in the second quarter to cut the lead, Walsh made a 37-yarder with less than 40 seconds remaining in the half to give Minnesota a lead at halftime. Early in the third quarter, Bell scored on a one-yard run to cut the lead, Peterson, though, would score again, this time on a seven-yard run, to give the Vikings a 10-point advantage, Roethlisberger was picked off by LB Chad Greenway midway through the third quarter which set the Vikings up in territory. Two plays later, Cassel found Jennings again for a touchdown to give the Vikings a 17-point lead, Early in the fourth quarter, Roethlisberger connected with WR Jerricho Cotchery for a 15-yard touchdown to cut the lead, Suisham made a 28-yarder with less than four minutes to play to cut the lead Pittsburgh had one final chance to tie the game. On Baltimore s first drive, QB Joe Flacco and WR Torrey Smith connected on a 54-yard pass and then on a seven-yard touchdown to give the Ravens an early 7-0 lead.
