MSU opened the year with 20-straight wins, bettering the previous record of 18 set by the team. State reached 20 wins for the fourth-straight year. It s quite the accomplishment, as in the 38 years prior to Vic Schaefer s arrival in Starkville, MSU had only recorded four 20-win campaigns. The Bulldogs 26 victories are third in program history behind the (28) and (27) teams. STATE SETS SEC WINS RECORD Thursday s win put State at 12-1 in SEC play. The 12 wins are a new school record for league wins in a season, bettering the previous mark of 11 set in both and State is (.756) in SEC play since after going the four years prior. The 34 SEC wins are second behind South Carolina (43) in that span. MSU is in league play under Schaefer. That total is 28.2% of the program s all-time SEC wins. ROAD WARRIORS State is 11-1 on the road this season. The 11 road wins are the most in school history and tied for thirdmost in the country this season. In setting the record, MSU claimed its first win at Tennessee and a come-from-behind victory at Iowa State that halted the Cyclones 96-game win streak in regular season non-conference home games. The Bulldogs have claimed a winning mark away from home for the third-straight year, something no other MSU squad has done. State traveled 17,190 miles during the non-conference schedule. Mississippi State is the only team in the nation to travel to the Top 3 teams in total attendance this season (South Carolina, Tennessee and Iowa State). The Bulldogs were 2-1 in those three games. SENIORS THE FIRST TO 100 Sunday s win over Missouri made MSU seniors Dominique Dillingham, Ketara Chapel, Breanna Richardson and Chinwe Okorie the first Bulldog class to win 100-career games. Going back to , the quartet has led MSU to a (.774) record, the second-most wins in the SEC in that span. MSU was the previous four years. This year s junior class is (.835) since its rookie season in DAWGS DEFEND THE HUMP The Hump has become one of the toughest places to play, with Michigan State head coach Suzy Merchant saying it is the loudest arena she has ever coached in. The Bulldogs have compiled a 43-3 (.935) record in the Hump since Going back to , MSU is 59-8 (.881), the second-most home victories in the league. MSU has won 46 of its last 50 home games going back to and is (.845) all-time at home under Schaefer. Thursday s win was MSU s 13th-straight win at the Hump, the longest home win streak in school history. It is also tied for the 11th-longest active streak in the nation. BULLDOGS BRING FANS TO THE TURNSTILES The Bulldogs have once again had the crowds come to The Hump, rating seventh nationally in average attendance with 6,422 fans per game. State had 7,780 against Texas A&M, the third-largest crowd in program history. The second-largest (8,840) attended the Jan. 16 Ole Miss game. The Jan. 16 Ole Miss crowd was also the second-largest to watch a women s college game in the state of Mississippi. MSU drew 7,764 for its Nov. 20 home opener against Texas. The Top 10 crowds and 17 of the Top 20 have come during Schaefer s tenure. STATE EARNS TOP 4 SEED Thursday s win clinched Mississippi State a Top 4 seed in this year s SEC Tournament and guaranteed it a spot in Friday s quarterfinals. The Bulldogs were picked second in the SEC by both league media and the coaches in the preseason. MSU tied for second a year ago, its highest finish ever. Media 1. South Carolina 2.
