Dear KML Family, Congratulations to our boys basketball team on making school history, and earning a trip to the WIAA State Basketball Tournament! By winning the sectional championship on Saturday evening, they have earned a trip to compete in Madison. The state semifinal match is at 1:35pm on Thursday, March 15 th, at the Kohl Center. We have earned the #4 seed and will play Valders (#1). A win on Thursday will put our team into the State Championship game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (If they should lose Thursday, they would NOT play on Saturday). We are hoping for an amazing turnout of Charger fans to come support the team, as they continue their sensational post-season run! Important State Details No School School is cancelled on Thursday, March 15 th, Regardless of the outcome of Thursday s semi-final game, school WILL be in session on Friday, March 16 th. Transportation While we hope many students will attend the tournament match(es), they are under no obligation to attend. KML will provide two (2) student fan buses, open to KML students only. Group transportation is encouraged as parking is at a premium in Madison. Starting Tuesday, students can sign up during lunch, or in the athletic office after school. Students will be asked to indicate if they plan to ride Thursday and Saturday. The sign-up is first come, first served. Only 90 student seats will be available. The bus fee for each day is $5 per student, and student accounts will be charged. The student fan buses will leave KML on Thursday morning at 10:45am, and Saturday morning at 11:45am. Students who sign up for a bus ride MUST arrive in plenty of time. The buses will not wait for late individuals. Also, students who do not show up will still be charged. If our team does not win on Thursday, accounts will NOT be charged for Saturday; Students who ride the student fan bus to the given game must ride the bus back to KML. Exceptions will only be made if a parent is attending the given game; and if the parent speaks to Mr. Luehring, or Mr. Greefkes in person at the given match. Students riding the bus will be dropped off directly at the door, and will have their entry tickets in hand, making for an easy admittance. It is difficult to predict exact return times, but an estimate is that the Thursday buses will return to KML between 5:30-6:00, and the Saturday bus would return to KML between 6:30-7:00. Students who are given permission by their parents to drive, or ride with other students, should be aware that there is a cost for most parking in Madison (see parking section for more information), and that parking will likely be challenging (in both distance from the Kohl Center
and overall availability). The school will not be involved with or responsible for any rides and riding arrangements other than for the student fan buses, which the school will provide. Parking/Access Doors will open approximately 1 hour prior to the start of each session. Patrons will be required to pass through metal detectors (see attached information for forbidden items). See future pages for detailed parking/access information. See attached information for helpful parking maps and seating diagrams. Ticket Sale Tickets are $10 and are available for purchase from the KML Athletic Department, starting Tuesday after school through 7:00pm. Tickets will also be available for purchase Wednesday during school through 6:00pm. Please note we have a special reserved block of tickets, which should be purchased first. Tickets purchased online via the WIAA are $12 and will not be the preferred seats, located in the KML block. Tickets must be purchased in person with cash or check (written out to KML). No reserving of tickets is allowed. Credit cards will not be accepted. Student accounts may be charged. Tickets are not needed for children two years old and under, but the child must remain on a lap during the game. Tickets may be purchased online and in person at the Kohl Center, if necessary. If our boys win on Thursday, those who are in attendance should purchase tickets for Saturday s match right after Thursday s winning match. We will have a designated ticket area. Listen for an announcement after Thursday s game concludes. KML State Bound Shirts KML State Bound Shirts are $10 and are available through the KML Athletic Department (no preorder) starting Wednesday, at lunch periods. Shirts are also available during regular school hours on Wednesday, and after school through 6:00pm. Students who order shirts will have their accounts charged. Cash/check for general public. We know parents are sometimes less than thrilled when accounts get charged for items for which they d rather have their own children pay for; however, accounts are being charged due to the logistical challenges with having many students paying cash for bus rides and/or tournament shirts on such short notice. If you wish to have your children pay for their own bus rides and/or shirts, please ask them to reimburse you. Pep Rally/Parade KML will be sponsoring a State Send-off Pep Rally on Wednesday from 2:15-2:45pm. All are invited to attend in the gymnasium! The team will be departing KML at 9:55 am on Thursday morning and will have a police/fire escort through downtown Jackson (between Piggly Wiggly and Hwy. 45). Fans may line the route (where permissible) to cheer/send the team off, between 10:00 and 10:15.
We hope to exemplify excellent sportsmanship en route to a WIAA D3 State Championship, yet athletic victory is not our only, nor primary, goal. We pray that our KML family would use this excellent opportunity as a platform to impact others through the Gospel message, and further enjoy joint fellowship as part of the KML Family! Psalm 96:3- Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. Please contact Mr. Joe Greefkes at joe.greefkes@kmlhs.org, or Mrs. Amy Nass, amy.nass@kmlh.org should you have any questions. In His Service, Mr. Joe Greefkes, Activities Director Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School On you Chargers!!!
WIAA/Kohl Center Guidelines Penalty for Bringing Prohibited Items Spectators bringing prohibited item(s) will have them confiscated or will be told to return the item(s) to their vehicles. Spectator Conduct The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association objects to the use of activities, materials, logos, apparel, mascots or gestures that are profane, vulgar, insulting or offensive to others. The membership disapproves of any form of taunting or expression that is intended or designed to embarrass, ridicule, disrespect, or demean others under any circumstance including on the basis of race, religion, gender or national origin. A violation of this policy will result in the individual(s) being removed from the Kohl Center.
PARKING/ACCESS ASSISTANCE Parking Spectator Bus Each school, during the session their team is playing, will be allowed to park their spectator buses on Frances Street. Upon your arrival at the Kohl Center, park temporarily in the cut-out area in front of the Kohl Center (Dayton Street), in the designated zone. A security officer will board your bus and assist you in proceeding to the parking area. There will be security officers positioned at each corner to assist you. Buses will reload their spectators on Frances Street at the conclusion of their game. There is no parking allowed on Dayton Street. Bus drivers must have a ticket to gain admission to the Kohl Center. Parking General Public (see maps on following pages) Spectators are encouraged to walk, use hotel shuttles, or park at the Alliant Energy Center. Parking spaces close to the Kohl Center are limited. Not all University lots in the vicinity of the Kohl Center are available for our use. Many are available only at certain times. The signs posted at the entrance of University lots will list restrictions, etc. Possible University Parking lots available include the following: a. The City of Madison State Street Campus Ramp is $15 per day b. Lot 91- Available after 5 p.m. $8, must pay to re-enter. c. Lot 46 - Available for the entire tournament based on availability. $8, must pay to re-enter. d. Lot 29 - Available after 5 p.m. $8, must pay to re-enter. e. Lot 83 - Available based on availability. $8, must pay to re-enter. f. If all lots are full, give consideration to using the Alliant Energy Center Shuttle or the only option will be street parking. You will probably be located several blocks from the Kohl Center. Many streets in Madison have restrictions allowing only a maximum of two hours of parking. Parking for the Disabled (see maps on following pages) There are disabled parking spaces available on a first come basis in Lot 48. Cost is $8 must pay to reenter. A disabled drop off area is available in front of the Kohl Center on Dayton Street. When dropping off in front of the Kohl Center, if needed, you can call UW Guest Services ( ) five minutes before arriving. Guest Services will meet the disabled patron with a wheelchair and they will take them into the building and to their seating area. The disabled patron may not keep the wheelchair. If the patron wishes to be picked up with a wheelchair after the session, tell Guest Services at the time of drop off and they will come back at the conclusion of the game/session. Access for Individuals with Disabilities There are wheelchair and wheelchair companion seating locations scattered throughout the Kohl Concourse (street level) and the Kellner Concourse (upper level). All wheelchairs must be positioned in the wheelchair and wheelchair companion seating areas. A student fan in a wheelchair will not be allowed to sit in their student sections or on the floor of the Kohl Center. Individuals needing these special seating locations must go to the Kohl Center Ticket Office (Gate B) to purchase a ticket and then proceed to the Kohl Center Welcome Desk (just inside Gate B) to do a ticket exchange for handicap seating. Seating in the special wheelchair areas will only be allowed with a corresponding assigned ticket. There are public restrooms, concession stands, and drinking fountains on both the Kohl and Kellner Concourses that are accessible for individuals with disabilities.
