1 The Noblesville Girls Basketball Club ( NGBC ) was formed to provide the young ladies of Noblesville the opportunity to play basketball at a competitive level while developing a strong foundation in basketball fundamental principles. Under the guidance of Coach Donna Buckley and her knowledgeable staff, we are working to develop a strong girl s travel basketball program in our community and promote the participation of our girls in basketball. The NGBC is the feeder program for Noblesville High School Girls Basketball and a travel basketball club focused on developing Noblesville players. The program is focused on girls in grades 3-8 who wish to train and play in a more competitive basketball environment than a traditional recreational league. Although we are a travel club, all games will be played in the central Indiana/Indy metro area including Noblesville Schools. FROM THE COACH S DESK: As the varsity coach for Noblesville High School, my goal for our feeder program is to provide an opportunity for players to develop strong offensive and defensive fundamental skills. The best way to develop these fundamental skills is through practice and repetition. Games are important, however if players are not spending time improving their skills, games alone will not help player development. Developing muscle memory, confidence, and the skills necessary to compete at a high level are acquired during practice and training. My goal is for each player to expand their skill set to include: passing and dribbling with both hands, a smooth jump shot, the capacity to handle defensive pressure, setting screens, good rebounding technique, and the ability to play sound man-to-man defense. These skills are necessary to be a great high school player. My hope is our girls develop these skills at an early age and are able improve those skills throughout their career. In addition to developing fundamental skills, my goal is for our girls to foster a love for the game and have fun. Sports create a unique opportunity for girls to play with and against other girls from all over the state. It is a chance to grow friendships and create memories that last a lifetime. 2 Message on the Season: Dear Potential NGBC parents, As we enter what promises to be an exciting season we have some announcements regarding the structure of the NGBC Lady Miller Travel program There has been a trend in girls travel basketball to push girls to play more games while decreasing the focus on instruction and training. As a club, we were guilty of following this trend in past seasons with teams playing in supplemental leagues around the area. While playing games can be entertaining for both the parents and players, bad habits can be reinforced. When teams are successful at an early age, this can create an issue when bad habits have little to no ramifications. This year we as a club have decided to make an evolutionary change that puts us in line with the developmental goals and metrics set forth by Coach Buckley. We feel this change better prepares our girls to one day be Lady Millers. We have taken feedback from the NHS coaching staff as well as input from professional sources on what is best develop our players and made adjustments based on that feedback. NGBC is changing its structure to place a greater emphasis on fundamental development training and focusing our resources to accomplish this. Our goal is to develop our girl s talent to their fullest potential while providing a strong fundamental skills set by the time our players reach High School. To achieve this goal, we have partnered with Indiana Girls Basketball (IGB) to provide group training as part of our club membership. 3 PRACTICE/ TRAINING We will now have one 90 minute team practice each week and one professionally coached group training through IGB each week. Group training sessions are currently scheduled for Wednesday evenings at NHS. Times will be announced once teams are created. Team coaches will have the option to add one addition practice night a week as needed. Practices and training will be held in Noblesville area gyms. As part of club membership players will also receive a 1 year membership to Indiana Girls Basketball (IGB). Open gyms will now be coordinated and managed by IGB coaches and staff to provide feedback and instruction to players. GAMES IGHL The primary league NGBC will participate is the Indy Girls Hoops League or IGHL. IGHL is the nation s largest school based girl s youth league and is run and organized by Indiana high school basketball coaches. The league is based on school districts, so girls will play teams from other area schools such as: Westfield, Fishers, Hamilton Heights, North Central and more! Two games will be played every other Sunday at high schools and middle schools in the central Indiana/Indy Metro area including Noblesville High School. 4 GAMES Continued JUNIOR MILLERS In addition to IGHL, the girls will participate in our Junior Millers League at no additional cost. Girls will have 4 practices and 4 games. Practices will be run by Coach Buckley, her staff and the Miller players. During games members of the high school team will coach the players. Practice and games are played during the week at normal club practice times. Please note all club players are automatically signed up for Junior Millers and additional registration is not needed. NEW PROGRAM OPTIONS For the season there will be 2 program options: NGBC 3-6 Program Cost: $325 For Players in Grades 2* through 6 All Players will have access to all NGBC benefits and events and all IGB group training and activities including open gyms. However there will be 2 player sub-options**: Full Season Player: Player commits to play in both the Fall and Winter IGHL League Games and attend both Fall and Winter team practices. Players will still have access to IGB workouts and open gyms during both the Fall and Winter seasons. Winter Season Player: Player commits to play in Winter IGHL Season Games only and attend Winter season team practices. These players are not required to attend Fall team practices and will not be rostered on Fall IGHL teams. Players will still have access to IGB workouts and open gyms during both the Fall and Winter seasons. *2 nd Graders will be evaluated to determine if the can play up to 3 rd Grade **This will be an option during the registration process. NGBC 7-8 Program Cost: $250 This option is for players in grades 7 and 8 only. All players will have access to all NGBC benefits and events and all IGB group training and activities including open gyms. Page 4 of 8

5 CLUB FEES While we try to maintain our fees as low as possible each year we had to make some adjustments to our cost structure this year. Some key factors that affect cost are: 1.) Noblesville Facilities usage fees have doubled from last season. This has a direct impact on the per player cost. 2.) The introduction of paid trainers as part of a full season long program. 3.) Expansion in scope for planned club activities, events and support for the season. Despite the increase in cost we still maintain one of the lowest cost in travel programs in Hamilton County, even after uniform costs are factored in. We do also offer financial assistance and scholarships for qualifying families. Feel free to contact us for more information. VOLUNTEER FEES Volunteer fees for will be $25 per participating IGHL Season. That amount will now be charged at the end of the season to the payment method on file. Families who complete the allotted volunteer hours will not be charged the volunteer fee. Each family is asked to volunteer at least two hours per hosting date. There may be adjustments to volunteer hours based on the number of teams at the hosting date. Hosting dates will be published as soon as they confirmed by IGHL. Like last season donation of baked goods or items for concessions will count as 1 hour per item provided (based on available opening on Sign Up Genius). **Important*** All volunteer hours will be tracked via Sign Up Genius. Families can view their hours by checking on past signups. Signups must be logged in Sign Up Genius to be tracked and volunteer hours. Page 5 of 8

Travel basketball provides a higher level of competition than rec leagues Advanced offensive and defensive concepts are taught in conjunction with fundamental skills to prepare for the increased level of competition As the feeder program for Noblesville High School Girls Basketball, players are incrementally prepared for the terminology and system used at the high school level. Who can play for the NGBC Lady Millers Travel Team? Any Incoming 3 rd -8 th grade girls who resides in the Noblesville High School ( NHS ) boundary o Special exceptions maybe made for advanced 2 nd grade players How are Travel Teams selected? Tryouts will take place in August and November All players are expected to attend. Individual basketball skills and aptitude will be evaluated and teams will be made accordingly Schedule commitments will also be taken into account when forming teams. Do you need a lot of experience or be very highly skilled to try out for a travel team? We encourage girls at all skills levels to try out. There are tiered team levels based on experience, skill and athletic ability. Travel basketball is not just about skill but also about a girl s commitment to put work in to improve and get better. We will field has many travel teams as possible but we are limited by coaching staff availability. What happens if I don t make the team? If your child is not placed on a team we will discuss the several options available with you during the team assignment period including rec and partner leagues. Page 7 of 8

8 How much playing time will my daughter receive? This is a competitive program and playing time is based on Ability, Commitment, and Work in and out of practice as well as game situations. Will the NGBC still sponsor teams in supplemental leagues? Coaches can independently sign teams up for supplemental league play but we will no longer be doing supplemental leagues as part of the club program.
