2 2 There was some discussion on ways to increase membership. Some ideas suggested were: credit card options, PayPal, pushers, utilizing school mailings, and suggesting membership as gifts to graduating seniors. Heritage Center / Lobby Display Case Debbie Lutz reported that lobby display case will remain unchanged until sometime in February. She also mentioned that the library renovation will begin soon. An offer to utilize Heritage Center memorabilia for the wall panels has been made. The large display case outside the Heritage Center will be donated to the Todd House. Lastly, Debbie mentioned that she attended a PTSA meeting, and suggested that we might gain some good fundraising ideas through these meetings, as well as some exposure for our organization. Committee Status Scholarship Debbie Gillaspie informed of key dates related to the scholarship process: Feb 15 Intent to Participate form is due detailing scholarship names/amounts, Mar 1 packets distributed to students, Apr 7 Guidance will have applications ready for review and selection, May 2 send check to school for total scholarship monies, May 10 award recipients names/presenter info due to guidance department, and Jun 2 Senior Awards Ceremony. Carolyn will look at our funds and confirm how much we can award this year. Committee members are Debbie Gillaspie (Chair), Debbie Lutz, Jim Moore and LuAnn Meyer. Other Business/Miscellaneous Request from Edgemere Elementary Sandy Bixby, the Library Media Specialist at Edgemere Elementary School, attended the meeting to discuss a project she is working on. She informed us that they have been awarded a grant to fund the project that will involve the 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th grade students. The scope of the project is intended to feature information about the past, present and future of the Edgemere/Sparrows Point schools/community. Sandy said that they are soliciting the community for comments/memories of the past. We offered that our Heritage Center will be a great source of information for their project with its multitude of pictures and artifacts. The project, which will be promoted on social media, will culminate in May with a display of collected artifacts. Sandy at sbixby@bcps.org with any memories/comments you want to share. Tradepoint Tour Hank mentioned that he and Pat, along with some school administration and faculty members attended a bus tour of the Tradepoint Atlantic facility and property. The school is mainly interested in possible internship/job opportunities for students. Field Damage There was some discussion regarding recent damage that occurred to the lacrosse and baseball fields behind the school. The fields were deeply rutted from tire tracks most likely made by riders of ATV vehicles who were able to access the field due to missing posts/barriers. Hank advised that he sent a letter from the Alumni Association to Russ Lingner, who will forward it to the proper department in the county. The letter stresses the need for security equipment namely cameras and improved lighting. Reserve Funds Account Do we want to proceed with this? This account would hold the dividend money from the Martha Clarke funds. Newspaper Article We still intend to submit an article to local papers. The article will promote the contributions and scholarships we have given since the inception of the AA in Debby Gamble said that she has a contact at the Dundalk Eagle (Nicole Rodman sp?) Any volunteers to compose the article??

3 3 Hall of Fame Pins Bob Mroz designed and donated Hall of Fame tac pins, with the suggestion that they be sent to all former and future inductees as a gift. Bob will also take a stab at creating a new logo for the Alumni Association. Since the organization was formed in 1983, the school logo has been used on our stationery. Alumni Dinner & Dance Pat reported that approximately 90 tickets have been so far. Point Pride Alum Nite, April 29, 2017 Sparrows Point Country Club, 6:00 10:00 p.m. $50.00 per person Appetizers, Buffet Dinner, Dessert, Beer, Wine, Cash Bar Music by Double Play We will hold a 50/50 raffle during the evening. We will also sell alumni merchandise. We need to appoint one or two key people from each class who will spread the word to their classmates. A suggestion was made to promote these event tickets as a gift option. The most important thing to do now is to get the word out about this event and sell tickets!! For tickets contact Pat Rode, or, send check (payable to SPHSAA) with a self-addressed stamped envelope to: SPHSAA PO Box 528 Chase, MD The general meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Pat Rode, Secretary *********************************************************************************** Our next meeting date: Tuesday, February 21 st, 7:00 p.m., school library
