5 Game Reports Under-18 Women Pool B - Tas 65 def. by NSW Metro 78 Trailing by only seven points at the final break, Tasmania threatened a comeback in the early moments of the fourth quarter before NSW Metro finally pulled away thanks to Shyla Heal s 24 points. They only shot 54% from the free-throw line but a 28-3 edge in points off turnovers sealed the deal and helped answer Sharna Thompson s game high 26 points. Key Contributor Tas: Sharna Thompson was a star for Tasmania, connecting on 7-13 from beyond the three-point line. Key Contributor NSW Metro: Shyla Heal led a very balanced NSW attack with 14 points in a solid all-round performance from the star point guard. Under-18 Women Pool A - NSW Country 49 def. WA Country 36 A low scoring affair saw both teams shoot 25% or below from the field as an 18-6 opening term proved the match-winning quarter for NSW Country. Georgia Adams scored 12 for WA Country but they were unable to keep their opponents out of the paint in the end, giving up 30 points with Isabel Palmer (13 points) proving the most damaging. Key Contributor NSW Country: Isabel Palmer was the key contributor with 13 points and nine rebounds. Her effort in chasing after loose balls helped NSW Country gain possession throughout the game. Key Contributor WA Country: Georgia Adams was the highest scorer for WA Country, but Tayah Burrows was also a contributor with seven points and seven rebounds. Under-18 Women Pool B - Vic Country 65 def. Qld South 56 Vic Country opened up an 11-point lead by quarter-time and while their advantage was never a comfortable one, Qld South were unable to cut into the margin enough despite their best efforts. Miela Goodchild scored 20 points for Qld South but 19 turnovers from her team hurt their chances. Key Contributor Vic Country: Chelsea D Angelo was her team s top scorer with 18, and exemplified their offensive spread with four assists. Key Contributor Qld South: Miela Goodchild worked tirelessly to total 20 points for the game including 4-5 three-pointers. Under-18 Men Pool B - NT 47 def. by Qld North 104 In a dominant performance by Qld North, four players recorded double-figures as they pulled down a total of 87 rebounds including 38 offensive boards to finish with a 34-8 advantage in second chance points. For NT, Joel Stevens impressed under the rim while James Toohey added 12 points off the bench. Key Contributor NT: Jordan Sing scrapped for 11 points, six boards, two steals and three blocked shots in a tough morning for the Territory. Key Contributor Qld North: Aiden Krause had 21 points, 10 rebounds and a massive five steals for the victors in less than 20 minutes of court time. GAME REPORTS REPORTS CONTINUTE ON THE NEXT PAGE...
6 Game Reports Under-18 Men Pool B - SA Metro 43 def. by Tas 78 Winning every quarter, Tasmania proved far too strong for SA Metro as Tre Armstrong tallied 29 points and Jacob Richards added 13 off the bench. A combined 11 steals from Jack Stanwix and Morgan Lockwood made for a complete performance at both ends of the floor from Tas, forcing 31 turnovers as a team. Key Contributor SA Metro: Riley Meldrum worked tirelessly for SA Metro, finishing with nine points and five rebounds. Key Contributor Tas: In addition to his 29 points, Tre Armstrong showed his ability to impact the floor at both ends with four rebounds and two steals. Under-18 Men Pool B - WA Country 56 def. by Vic Country 74 Both teams defence were on song in the opening term it was shaping as an arm wrestle before Vic Country blew the game open with a second period. Samuel Flanders led the charge with 17 points to answer Alexander Ducas 17 while Liam Herbert was simply outstanding at the defensive end with an incredible 11 steals to go with eight points, five rebounds and six assists. Key Contributor WA Country: Alexander Ducas battled hard for WA all game to finish with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Key Contributor Vic Country: Samuel Flanders was the difference for Vic Country with 17 points to lead a balanced attached. Under-18 Men Pool A - Qld South 81 def. SA Country 58 Qld South led wire to wire in this game and by as much as 34 courtesy of a Callum Dalton double-double and 11 combined steals from Flynn Cameron and Nick Stoddart. Sebastian Bald top-scored for SA Country with 17 points alongside Mitch Wellington but they could not match their opposition on the glass, out-rebounded Key Contributor Qld South: Callum Dalton tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds in a stirring performance under the ring. Key Contributor SA Country: While finishing as the team s equal leading scorer, Sebastian Bald also added eight rebounds and three steals. Under-18 Women Pool B - SA Country 79 def. WA Metro 60 SA Country always had control in the first quarter and they were able to increase their lead to at the main break behind some fine play from Molly Coleman. The second half was all SA Country who restricted WA Metro to just 33 points in the second half to take a commanding 19-point victory from their second pool game. Key Contributor SA Country: Molly Coleman put in a solid all-round display to finish with 15 points to lead her side. 7 Game Reports Under-18 Men Pool B - Qld North 92 def. NSW Country 60 The game started off as a close match with NSW Country keeping up with Queensland North s fast paced game and making them earn each basket. Qld North found another gear in the second period though with Aiden Krause showing his hunger on the glass and in his drives. NSW Country struggled to connect on shots at their end as the lead slipped away. Key Contributor Qld North: Aiden Krause (24 points, eight rebounds, five steals), Samson Frolling (24 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks) and Kody Stattmann (21 points) proved the difference. Key Contributor NSW Country: Lachlan Dent (14 points, five rebounds, four assists) tried his heart out for NSW Country. Under-18 Women Pool A - SA Metro 73 def. ACT 47 The first quarter of this match ebbed and flowed with ACT jumping out to an early lead and forcing SA to re-group in a timeout. The South Australians settled after that though and following half-time, they fully took control with a 25-7 run blowing the match wide open. Key Contributor SA Metro: Elissa Brett came to life and played almost the entire third quarter to have five points, three boards and three assists in her team s key period. Key Contributor ACT: Rosemary Schweizer kept her team in it for the first half with 12 rebounds in two quarters before finishing with 12 points, 17 boards and five assists.
