5 Game Reports Under-18 Men Pool B - SA Metro 64 def. by NSW Country 80 After NSW Country jumped out to an early six-point advantage, they owned the lead for most of the game but SA Metro were never out of the contest, trimming the margin to four at the main break while they got within seven points inside the last eight minutes. NSW Country responded though with the next 13 points to finally put the match to bed as Matur Maluach added 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists following his heroics from last night. Key Contributor SA Metro: Anyang Garang top scored with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Key Contributor NSW Country: Lachlan Dent top scored with 16 points and Matur Maluach scored 14 points with 9 rebounds. Under-18 Women Pool B - Vic Country 61 def. Tas 39 Tasmania came in looking for their first win while Vic Country sought to maintain their perfect record after trailing early, they came back to lead at quarter-time. Tasmania won the second quarter by a point but after half-time Victoria pushed away thanks to their rebounding game (51-29) and quick hands (16 steals). Key Contributor Vic Country: Agnes Emma-Nnopu had a terrific game off the bench to earn 16 points and 12 rebounds, as well as two blocked shots. Key Contributor Tas: Sarah O Neill was efficient with ball in hand, going 4-7 from the field for nine points as well as three boards and two assists assists in 21 minutes. Under-18 Men Pool B - NSW Metro 101 def. ACT 50 ACT were no match for Lachlan Charlton in this game, as he out-scored his opposition by 15 points from beyond the arc, hitting from deep for 39 points. He only played 28 minutes in an incredible shooting display which was helped along by Benjamin Fakira s eight points and 12 rebounds. Key Contributor NSW Metro: Lachlan Charlton may have put in the performance of the tournament, turning the game on its head with 26 points alone in the third quarter. Key Contributor ACT: Tristan Scotcher battled hard all game for his 12 points and three rebounds in a tough morning for the Capital city men. Under-18 Men Pool A - WA Metro 91 def. SA Country 68 SA County jumped out to an early lead in this clash but once WA Metro asserted themselves under the rim through Jayden Stone and Kyle Bowen (a combined 45 points and 31 rebounds), WA Metro raced away. Sebastian Bald was back to his best at the offensive end while Jackson Walsh also impressed with 17 points and two blocks. Key Contributor WA Metro: The front court combination of Stone and Bowen proved too much to handle for SA Country and will have sent a message to the rest of the competition. 6 Game Reports Under-18 Women Pool A - Vic Metro 64 def. ACT 59 Vic Metro remain undefeated in Pool A after defeating a courageous ACT. Despite leading for the entire game, ACT never gave up and they cut the lead from 14 with just over three minutes remaining to send a little scare through the Vic Metro camp. Key Contributor Vic Metro: Keeley Frawley top scored for Victoria Metro with 11 points, ten rebounds and three assists. Key Contributor ACT: Isabelle Bourne top scored with 19 points, 14 rebounds, two assists and three blocks. Under-18 Men Pool A - Qld South 76 def. Vic Metro 74 Vic Metro took control of this game in the first half, leading all the way up until the main break thanks to Keli Leaupepe who finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Qld South responded with a third period as four players entered double-figures but just when they looked to have the match won, Vic Metro put together a run to finish the game. They put together a 9-1 run, capped by a three-pointer from Sean MacDonald (12 points, seven assists) but free-throws from Nick Stoddart (11 points) and Frazer Roberts (eight points, seven boards) sealed a thrilling win for Qld South and an important one in terms of the Pool A ladder. Key Contributor Qld South: Callum Dalton top scored with 19 points and nine rebounds, with Flynn Cameron also scoring 16. Key Contributor Vic Metro: Alongside the strong performance of Keli Leaupepe, Tyler Robertson finished with a handy 15 points. Under-18 Women Pool A - NSW Country 36 def. by SA Metro 69 A strong third quarter from SA Metro finally blew the game open after an even first half, limiting NSW Country to just 12 points after the main break with that suffocating defence proving too much for NSW Country who were also out-matched on the boards. Key Contributor NSW Country: Lucy Chapman had a team high 12 points and three rebounds. Key Contributor SA Metro: Samantha Simons top scored for SA Metro with 14 points, three assists and two steals. Under-18 Men Pool B - NT 44 def. by Vic Country 103 The offence of Vic Country proved too effective in this contest as they extended their lead at every break behind 48% field goal shooting and a 61-1 edge in bench points. Liam Allison (four points, nine rebounds, eight assists and four steals) helped force 33 turnovers as well. Key Contributor NT: James Toohey was the only NT player to get into double figures, collecting 12 points. Key Contributor Vic Country: Jay Rantall continued his good form at the tournament with another impressive display for Vic Country 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. 7 Game Reports Under-18 Women Pool A - WA Country 39 def. by Qld North 62 Qld North came away with a hard-fought victory with the scoreline not reflective of the tough contest seen on court. 23 offensive rebounds and a rebounding edge overall proved the difference though with Qld North s forwards getting the job done. Key Contributor WA Country: Grace Lawler recorded 13 points while hitting 5-8 from the field and her consistent field goal shooting helped keep WA Country fighting in the second half. Key Contributor Qld North: Haylee Andrews finished with 16 points, four rebounds and six assists. She got Queensland North off to a great with eight points in the opening quarter and her hustle was evident at both ends of the floor. Under-18 Men Pool B - Qld North 86 def. Tas 73 The game started out at a fast and physical pace with Qld North settling into their game tempo and owning a slight edge at the first quarter break, Sam Froling led the charge at the defensive end whilst Kody Stattman and Aiden Krause ensured the scoreboard kept ticking over. Tasmania fought hard and their three-point shooting gave them a chance, trimming the margin to nine points in the last period before Qld North consolidated for an impressive win in front of the home crowd. Key Contributor Qld North: Kody Stattman had 26 points and four rebounds while Froling was outstanding with ten points and 17 rebounds. Key Contributor Tas: Hunter Clarke continued his sizzling form, finishing with 22 points and five boards. Under-18 Women Pool B - NSW Metro 82 def. WA Metro 59 An important game for both teams, the game started in favour for NSW Metro and they did not let the game slip from their despite the best efforts of WA Metro who struggled to penetrate their opposition s aggressive defence while NSW Metro s hot shooting was also impressive. Key Contributor NSW Metro: Shyla Heal exploded for a game-high 33 points, adding eight rebounds and four assists for a complete game. Key Contributor WA Metro: Emma Clarke did her best to match Heal at WA Metro s offensive end, contributing 28 points and eight rebounds. Under-18 Women Pool B - SA Country 57 def. by Qld South 84 A first quarter clinic from Qld South saw them open a 27-5 advantage by the first break and while SA Country recovered to only lose the remaining three quarter by five points, the damage had been done. The game was marred by injuries to both players which could hamper their chances as we head into the final day of the group games. Key Contributor SA Country: Emma Winter hit 8-8 from the free throw line and 4-7 from the field to add 16 points to SA s score-line. 8 Game Reports Under-18 Men Pool B - WA Country def. SA Metro A standout performance by Toby Hunt has led SA Metro to a big win. After being down in the first quarter, WA Country fought back into the game in the second quarter to only trail by two at half-time but the second half belonged to Hunt for scored 17 points after the main break to build a comfortable lead for SA Metro. Key Contributor WA Country: Alexander Ducas had a great all-round performance in a losing side as he got things done at both ends of the floor for 15 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two rejections. Key Contributor SA Metro: Toby Hunt scored 11 points in the first quarter and then hit 4-5 from downtown in the third to finish with 28 points, three rebounds and five assists.
