1 THE GREEN SHEET Volume XXVII Issue 18 November 13, 2017 $12.00 FINAL 3 NCAA WEEKENDS AHEAD NEWSLETTER 2-WEEK NOSEDIVE, BIG WEEK UPCOMING 4th Quarter Covers NCAA Week 11 Miami, OH (-11½) 24, Akron 14: For the second straight week the Miami, OH line moved dramatically in the hours before kickoff with the possibility of quarterback Gus Ragland returning. Ragland didn t play last week in a competitive loss to Ohio but he was on the field Tuesday night against Akron with a home favorite price that opened at -4 settling at -7 by Tuesday and climbing all the way to -11½ by game time. Akron had the first score in the game but Miami dominated in the middle quarters with a 24-7 advantage going into the fourth quarter. Akron completed a scoring drive with a 30-yard passing touchdown however to cut the lead to just 10 points. Miami reached the Akron 25-yard-line on the next possession but a penalty pushed the Redhawks backwards for an eventual punt and Akron s next possession stalled just past midfield as well as the final margin stayed right at 10. Buffalo (-7) 38, Bowling Green 28: The Bulls opened favored by -11½ but that line steadily fell and wound up at just -7 by kickoff Tuesday. Those chasing the ugly underdog were down 21-7 after the first quarter but Bowling Green completed a 98-yard scoring drive just before halftime to match the closing spread. Seven was still the margin after three quarters before Buffalo hit a short field goal early in the fourth quarter to lead by 10. Bowling Green immediately answered with a four-play touchdown drive to suddenly trail by only three with 12 minutes to go. Buffalo responded with its own quick scoring drive as the Bulls were up by 10 with fewer than nine minutes to play. Bowling Green had an opportunity to steal the cover back late as they reached the Buffalo 20-yard-line before fumbling as the Bulls won on the closing number and the middle was there for the taking on both Tuesday night MAC games.western Michigan (-19½) 48, Kent State 20: Western Michigan scored on a pair of interception return touchdowns to lead through three quarters on a spread that opened at -22 but fell to -19½ by kickoff. The Broncos picked up a third defensive touchdown with a fumble return and then added another touchdown on a 46-yard run to lead by 35 into the final minutes. Kent State would break its own long run for a score but a personal foul on the team s final possession ended any threat of getting back within the number. Central Michigan (+1½) 42, Eastern Michigan 30: Central Michigan pulled ahead in the third quarter after a short-field touchdown drive following one of eventually five Eastern Michigan turnovers. Eastern Michigan rallied in the fourth with a pair of touchdowns to climb within five and while just a minute remained the Eagles got the ball back, setting up the possibility of late win and cover. On 2nd-and-2 Brogran Roback was intercepted with the pick returned for a touchdown as Central Michigan sealed up a second straight rivalry win with the help of turnovers. Appalachian State (-17) 27, Georgia Southern 6: Winless Georgia Southern hung in there at Appalachian State Thursday night trailing just 13-6 against one of the top Sun Belt contenders though three quarters. The Mountaineers delivered a third down touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter however and after a dominant defensive 3-and-out the Mountaineers were back in the end zone five minutes later, slipping by a home favorite spread that reached -18½ before settling at -17. Things got interesting late as the Mountaineers went for it on 4th down with just over a minute remaining outside of field goal range and came up short. Georgia Southern picked up 60 yards on its final possession and had two plays inside the red zone but time expired with the Eagles only reaching the 8-yard-line. NC State (-3) 17, Boston College 14: The Eagles botched a pair of early scoring opportunities and things got worse in the second quarter as quarterback Anthony Brown appeared to suffer a seasonending injury. To make matters worse the Eagles allowed NC State to take the lead with 10 points in the final 2:26 of the first half. Boston College took the lead back with a late third quarter touchdown to lead as a 3-point underdog into the fourth quarter. Nyheim Hines broke a 50- yard touchdown run to put the Wolfpack in front with about eight minutes to go. Boston College drove into the red zone to the NC State 18-yard-line inside of five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter but on the tying field goal attempt a botched snap forced an impromptu pass from the holder that fell incomplete. NC State didn t advance the ball much on two late possessions but also didn t opt to add points looking to burn as much time as possible, escaping with a narrow win and leaving most with a push. Wake Forest (-2½) 64, Syracuse 43: In a wild offensive showcase Syracuse led by 14 at the half and still by three heading into the fourth quarter as a tying extrapoint-attempt for the Demon Deacons turned into two points the other way late in the third quarter. Wake Forest got the momentum back in the fourth quarter taking over with the help of a missed field goal and an interception to outscore the Orange 24-0 in the final frame. Middle Tennessee State (-15) 35, Charlotte 21: The Blue Raiders had a commanding 28-7 lead at the half but Charlotte scored the only points in the third quarter to trail by just 14, sitting just inside the underdog spread that closed at +15, although that was the highest point the line reached as numbers below the two-touchdown continue reaching at Between the Lines... The three big head-to-head matchups on top 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings proved to be duds with margins of victory of 18, 23, and 33 points. The best game of the day among the teams in the mix for playoff spots proved to be Alabama visiting Mississippi State with the Tide narrowly escaping with a comeback victory. Alabama is now the #1 team in the polls and will probably be the #1 team in the playoff rankings though that narrow win over a Bulldogs team that will rank in the high teens or low 20s is the best on the resume for the Tide as for as much criticism as undefeated Miami and Wisconsin have received for sneaking by in close games through a marginal schedule, the case for the Tide isn t much better. The blowout wins over teams like Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Ole Miss aren t earning a lot of credit this season and the SEC divisions don t hold up in comparison with any of the other major conference groupings this season depth-wise. Ultimately it won t matter as every team will have a chance to make its case the next three weeks though it appears the potential playoff field is down to seven in the majority of scenarios that don t involve outlandish upsets. Three of those teams are SEC teams as Auburn can win out and earn a spot despite two losses with a run of beating Georgia, Alabama, and Georgia again. The Bulldogs were a loser last week but if they beat Kentucky and Georgia Tech and win the SEC championship they are surely in. Alabama always has the biggest margin for error of any team in the nation and they have paths into field whether they beat Auburn or not as they would be a controversial but likely participant as an 11-1 division runnerup in many scenarios and also as a 12-1 SEC championship loser. The Big XII appears down to Oklahoma or bust while the Big Ten is down to Wisconsin or bust. The ACC could have possible life for two participants in several scenarios should Miami and Clemson win out and play a very competitive championship game, should the Big XII or Big Ten surrender a bid and/or should Alabama eliminate Auburn and Georgia on a perfect run. In a NFL season that is more than halfway through it hasn t felt like there are any great teams this season yet every division leader is at least 6-3. In the NFC every division leader is 7-2 or better0. Five division leaders have a two-game cushion over the second place teams right now which is not the norm this early in the season. Two of those NFC division leaders face off this week while the other two have somewhat difficult games as there could be some upcoming shifts. The Week 11 Monday Night game is a playoff rematch from last season and in this season s standings it could be a critical game in the NFC wild card race. We ve discussed the great success of young quarterbacks with Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, and Carson Wentz rating as three of the best quarterbacks in the league at this point in the season. Crashing into the league s top 3 in QBR just ahead of Wentz (and then Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers) is Case Keenum. He was signed by the Vikings in March on a one-year deal for just $2 million after seeing action in parts of four seasons with the Texans and the Rams. While the bet on Jared Goff is looking good for the Rams certainly the Texans could have used the results Keenum has delivered as a backup. The Vikings have some very interesting decisions to make at the quarterback position but right now the team is winning which will make any decision the team makes a bit easier. Minnesota s schedule the next month is difficult as there could be an opening for the Lions or Packers to get back in the division race as Keenum s agent should try to get an extension signed this week. 2 COLLEGE KEY SELECTIONS ********************************************************************** RATING 5 LSU (-15½) over Tennessee RATING 4 UTAH (+17) over Washington RATING 3 WAKE FOREST (-1½) over NC State RATING 2 PURDUE (+8½) over Iowa RATING 2 INDIANA (-11) over Rutgers RATING 1 BAYLOR (+9½) over Iowa State RATING 1 KENTUCKY (+21½) over Georgia ********************************************************************** ALL TIMES ARE LISTED IN CENTRAL TIME AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE Home teams listed in CAPS, all lines are obviously subject to change TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2017 Ohio (-13) AKRON Akron had to play with back-up quarterback Kato Nelson last week losing a critical game to fall behind in the MAC East standings. Thomas Woodson is a question mark to return as the Zips can match Ohio on top of the division standings with a critical tiebreaker if they can deliver an upset this week. The Bobcats have some momentum with four straight wins, blasting West leader Toledo last week with a dominant rushing attack. Ohio clinched the MAC East by beating Akron late last season in a 9-3 result in Athens and they will likely be a similarly priced favorite on the road. OHIO BY 10 Central Michigan (-17½) KENT STATE Kent State only had two FBS wins last season but one of them came at Central Michigan as a two-touchdown underdog. Turnovers helped the cause with the Chippewas reeling from back-to-back big games with NIU and Toledo. The Flashes have scored just 72 points in six MAC games sitting at 2-8 on the season but his could again be a dangerous spot for Central Michigan. With back-to-back wins over Great Lakes State rivals Central Michigan is bowl eligible and next week s home finale with Northern Illinois will carry more weight but Kent is hard to support. CM BY 21 WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2017 Toledo (-17) BOWLING GREEN 7:00 PM The Rockets are still in control of the MAC West despite last week s loss to Ohio but the offense has lost a pair of key players to injury. Toledo is on the road for a second straight week following last week s Wednesday loss and while Bowling Green is just 2-8 on the season the Falcons have competed well in recent weeks picking up a pair of road wins and losing respectably against some of the top MAC teams. These teams played to a seven-point game last season despite the contrasting season numbers and this won t be an ideal scheduling spot for Toledo with next week s home finale with Western Michigan looming. TOLEDO BY 14 MIAMI, OH (-3½) Eastern Michigan Gus Ragland finally returned for the Redhawks as Miami delivered a home win over Akron. As was the situation last season, Miami needs to win out to reach 6-6 which was also the scenario last week for Eastern Michigan with the Eagles out of the postseason running after a comeback bid fell short at Central Michigan. Miami won last season in a fairly even game in Ypsilanti and every loss for the Eagles has been in a very competitive game. This is now a second straight road game off a demoralizing defeat however and Miami could look like an even stronger team with Ragland back full-time this week after missing three games. MIAMI BY 10 NORTHERN ILLINOIS (-10) Western Michigan The MAC West standings still have some sorting out to do with four teams either 5-1 or 4-2. Western Michigan has opportunities remaining against the top two teams in the standings and no team has scored more points in MAC play. Northern Illinois has the MAC s top scoring defense and the Huskies will look to avenge a loss at Western Michigan last season. Since the injury to Jon Wassink the Broncos are a run-heavy team, running 50 times last week as the elite run defense for Northern Illinois will be tested. The Broncos have been lucky to win both MAC road games and the inexperienced QB will be tough to trust needing to make plays with the Huskies allowing just 2.8 yards per rush NIU BY 17 THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2017 Buffalo (-20½) BALL STATE Ball State has been outscored by 43 points per game in MAC play as the Cardinals have had a disastrous season with injuries playing a major role. Buffalo is 4-6 but they draw MAC East leader Ohio in next week s home finale, though the Bobcats could have the division wrapped up this week. The Bulls have a positive scoring differential despite a 2-4 record in conference play and the Bulls are 8-2 ATS though 14 points is the largest margin of victory this season against FBS competition. BUFFALO BY 20 SOUTH FLORIDA (-23) Tulsa 6:30 PM While South Florida is no longer perfect they are having a fine season in a coaching transition year. This week s home finale needs to be taken care of if next week s showdown with UCF is to matter in the AAC standings. Tulsa is just 2-8 on the season but five losses have come by 10 or fewer points. The numbers haven t been much better since moving to freshman Luke Skipper at quarterback but the Hurricane are worth a look in the underdog role gaining 5.1 yards per rush as one of the more productive rushing teams in the nation. Tulsa s run defense is a significant concern in this matchup however and ultimately the Bulls have too much at stake to let this game slip away with both teams coming out of the bye week. USF BY 27 FRIDAY, NOVMEBER 17, 2017 Middle Tennessee St (-3) WESTERN KENTUCKY 7:00 PM Prior to the season starting most tabbed this game likely to decide the C- USA East title. The game still carries some meaning as with both squads 5-5, there may not be room in the bowl picture for both teams as wins in the finale can t be assumed. Both offenses have seen a big decline in a transition season for Western Kentucky and with MTSU quarterback Brent Stockstill hurt much of the year before his recent return. The Hilltoppers won last season in double-overtime but revenge looks possible with the Blue Raiders getting back to full strength with back-to-back wins. MTSU BY 7 NEW MEXICO (PK) Unlv 8:30 PM UNLV missed in a big opportunity to get to 5-5 last week losing at home against BYU, playing without Armani Rogers. The final two games are winnable as the Rebels look to make a bowl game for just the second time since 2000 but both games are on the road. New Mexico has endured a difficult season with revolving quarterbacks with all three playing last week in a lopsided loss at Texas A&M. The Lobos have allowed 31 points per game and are actually the lesser rushing offense in this matchup. New Mexico has scored only 107 points in six conference games but a home finale could provide a breakout game from a disappointing team that won nine games last season as the Lobos have drawn a tough MWC slate. NM BY 3 SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2017 INDIANA (-11) Rutgers The Hoosiers finally got in the win column last week but Indiana has lost seven in a row ATS. The Hoosiers can still make a bowl game if they win out and at times this team has looked very promising despite finding ways to lose most games. Rutgers has scored only 17 points per game in Big Ten play but has found three wins as this will be a bowl elimination game between 4-6 squads. Indiana won last season while out-gaining Rutgers by 216 yards. After playing Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin in three conference home tests this should be the best opportunity of the season for the Hoosiers to deliver a complete game performance. INDIANA BY 20 GEORGIA (-21½) Kentucky Losing by 23 points isn t a great look for a team that was #1 in the College Football Playoff rankings but Georgia still has a chance to play its way into the bracket with a SEC championship, either drawing an undefeated Alabama team or getting to avenge the loss to Auburn. It only matters if the Bulldogs take care of business the next two weeks however. One more win would give Kentucky their most victories since 2007 though the remaining path is daunting. The Wildcats played Georgia tough last season in a defeat at home as just a +2 underdog as this line has swung dramatically. Kentucky is allowing just 3.8 yards per rush this season. Georgia s emotional state could be questioned this week while Kentucky s previous run of road woes is a thing of the past with a 5-2 ATS run. GEORGIA BY 14 Cincinnati (-3½) EAST CAROLINA The Bearcats dropped a primetime home game last Friday night as a second straight season without a postseason game has been locked up. East Carolina has allowed 45 points per game this season as these teams have matching 1-5 AAC records. Cincinnati s only conference win came against the Pirates last season in a game where both squads topped 500 yards. East Carolina suffered a demoralizing overtime loss at home last week but the past two home games have featured encouraging performances and this is the home finale in Greenville. The Pirates also seem to be getting better results at quarterback since making the switch to Gardner Minshew from Duke transfer Thomas Sirk. ECU BY 3 Georgia Tech (-6½) DUKE Duke has scored just 14 points per game in ACC play as a once 4-0 Blue Devils squad has lost six in a row. Duke held Army s option attack in check last week but still wound up with a loss but facing a similar offensive scheme two weeks in a row should be beneficial. There will be some urgency for Georgia Tech this week however as with just 11 games on the schedule the Yellow Jackets are a win short of the bowl picture and next week s game with Georgia is sure to be a challenge. The Yellow Jackets delivered an impressive win over Virginia Tech last week but they have not won away from home this season. This will be a notable revenge game for Duke as the Blue Devils blew a fourth quarter lead in this matchup last season. GT BY 4

3 VIRGINIA TECH (-15) Pittsburgh 11:20 AM The climb to national contention for the Hokies has been short-lived with back-to-back losses. Both misses were on the road and Virginia Tech has won convincingly in the past two conference home games. Pittsburgh s bowl hopes took a big hit last week with a home loss to North Carolina as the Panthers will be a hefty underdog the next two games. These teams have played very close games in recent years with the past three meetings all decided by five or fewer points. Pittsburgh has averaged 29 points per game the past three ACC tests as a capable threat. VT BY 10 Central Florida (-14) TEMPLE The excellent home underdog track record for Temple is worth noting and the Owls have played well in recent weeks going 3-3 the past six games but with all three defeats by a single-score. Central Florida is still undefeated with next week s showdown with South Florida lurking. The Knights have lost ATS in four consecutive games as the high scoring offense has become overvalued. Temple won in Orlando last season with the Knights held below 300 yards. The Knights have had closer calls in the past two road games but a revenge matchup against last season s conference champions should bring out the best for the Knights. UCF BY 17 WAKE FOREST (-1½) NC State 6:30 PM NC State snuck out a narrow win at Boston College last week to avoid a three-game slide. At 7-3 the season is on pace to be Dave Doeren s best in Raleigh but this is a dangerous game with a second straight road contest. Wake Forest hasn t won in this series under Dave Clawson but the Demon Deacons enter this game having clinched bowl eligibility last week in a wild comeback win at Syracuse. Both teams benefited from facing backup quarterbacks last week but John Wolford is the ACC s top quarterback in most passing categories this season. Wake Forest has only had one home game since September as the team should have good energy in a big opportunity for the program against a ranked team. WAKE BY 9 LOUISVILLE (-13) Syracuse The Cardinals haven t been in the national or ACC races this season but they moved to 6-4 with a win last week against Virginia and the Cardinals will be favored in the final two games looking to even its ACC record this week. Syracuse has the biggest win of the ACC season but the Orange is the last place team in the Atlantic following a painful fourth quarter last week playing without Eric Dungey who is a question mark this week. Syracuse needs to win out to make a bowl game for the first time since Lamar Jackson had a breakout game with Louisville posting 845 yards against Syracuse last September and it won t be forgotten. LOUISVILLE BY 11 NORTHWESTERN (-7½) Minnesota The Wildcats are the clear #2 team in the Big Ten West with a charmed late season run in conference play featuring three overtime wins and another narrow win with some breaks last week as they were out-gained at home against Purdue but got a fifth consecutive win. Minnesota s reversed a late season slide with a dominant win over Nebraska and the Gophers likely need to win this week to make a bowl game as they draw Wisconsin in the finale. Minnesota gained 409 yards on the ground last week but Northwestern should be better suited to handle the one-dimensional attack. NW BY 10 MICHIGAN STATE (-17) Maryland 3:00 PM The Spartans were blasted last week in huge Big Ten East matchup. Despite being 5-2 Michigan State has a negative scoring differential in conference play. They have allowed 99 fewer points than Maryland in seven league games however. The Terrapins have had unbelievably injury bad luck at quarterback this season down to a walk-on for the team s fourth different starter this season. Maryland has three wins as an underdog this season but they have lost badly against the top tier teams in the conference. Michigan State might not be in that group but coming off an ugly loss the Spartans can respond with a strong home finale showing. MICHIGAN STATE BY 21 WEST VIRGINIA (-3½) Texas Texas got the job done against Kansas last week though the defense has been disappointing the past two weeks. Texas is just 5-5 with a pair of difficult non-conference games remaining looking to get to a bowl game for the first time since West Virginia is quietly 5-2 in Big XII play but they are yet to play the current leader Oklahoma with a finale in Norman next week. West Virginia won last season in Austin despite allowing 536 yards. Texas has allowed 84 fewer points in league play for a big edge on defense in this matchup. West Virginia has also allowed 4.7 yards per rush as Texas could have some opportunities but keeping pace with the Mountaineers could be a challenge. WEST VIRGINIA BY 6 Oklahoma (-35) KANSAS The Sooners are in a commanding position in the Big XII and in a presumably strong position in the playoff rankings. Kansas has had more competitive games in two of the last three weeks despite a nine-game slide but this will be an impossible matchup for the Jayhawks who lost by 53 in Norman last season. Coming off a pair of huge wins it is hard to imagine a crisp performance from the Sooners but Baker Mayfield could look to pad his numbers for a very strong Heisman case. Kansas has scored 20.5 points per game at home in Big XII play to have a shot to cover. OU BY 34 Fresno State (-1½) WYOMING 1:00 PM Wyoming lost Josh Allen last week and posted only 229 yards but still won by double-digits as a road underdog with the help of turnovers. Wyoming has covered in seven straight games and the nation s leading turnover margin at +17 has been a big factor. Wyoming is unlikely to catch Boise State in the Mountain standings but Fresno State will have a say playing both of the top two Mountain teams in the final two weeks looking to retain their own division lead. Two excellent run defenses face off in this game and if Allen can t play the line might swing a bit too far against a team on a roll. WYOMING BY 3 BOISE STATE (-17½) Air Force 9:15 PM The Broncos delivered one of the comeback wins of the season last week down 14 with just three minutes to go before delivering a pair of touchdowns and winning in overtime. Boise State is only 6-0 MWC team and the Broncos were blasted on the ground last week, now facing a difficult matchup against the Air Force option attack. Air Force has endured a disappointing season now needing to win out to make a bowl game. Air Force has won the past two road games however and has covered in each of the past five meetings in this series but this year s team isn t in the same class. BOISE BY 21 UTAH STATE (-10½) Hawai i Utah State is 5-5 on the season with two winnable games to go as a positive season of improvement is in play. On the closing spreads Hawai i has lost ATS in nine straight games though there have been some close calls for a dysfunctional program in a step-back season. After dropping last week s home game it will be tough to head on the road again facing chilly November conditions and Utah State has been respectable against the run allowing 4.4 yards per carry despite having to play a few great rushing teams. USU BY 14 OLD DOMINION (-9½) Rice 1:00 PM After a six-game slide Old Dominion has won two in a row including a notable road upset at Florida International last week. 1-9 Rice trailed the whole way last week but made it interesting late and wound up with a narrow home underdog cover. The defense allowed more than 500 yards still and matching that homecoming effort will likely be challenging on the road. The Monarchs have a clearly superior run defense this squad has resembled last season s 10-win unit a bit more in the last month. ODU BY 13 SOUTHERN MISS (-16½) Charlotte Southern Miss picked up win #6 last week and this week s home finale will still garner plenty of attention with a surprise loss hosting Charlotte last season as a nearly three-touchdown favorite. The Golden Eagles were -3 in turnovers in that game but 1-9 Charlotte shouldn t be overlooked with several competitive performances in Conference USA play as only one game has been decided by more than 14 points and the 49ers 5-1 ATS in conference play. Southern Miss has a stout run defense but the Golden Eagles have allowed nine more points than Charlotte in C-USA play. SO MISS BY 9 BYU (-4) Massachusetts The Minutemen have played well in the second half of the season with a 3-1 run and the only loss at Mississippi State. On the season every Massachusetts loss has come by 11 or fewer points. BYU has won two of the last three games to save some face in a very disappointing season. The Cougars ran the ball with success last week and won convincingly in the last Provo game. Ultimately Massachusetts looks like a serious threat with the team playing well in its other prominent opportunities. BYU BY 1 Louisiana Tech (-17) UTEP The Bulldogs had an odd box score last week losing by 25 but +1 in turnovers while out-gaining Florida Atlantic by nearly 100 yards. At 4-6 it has been a disappointing season for a team that has been in two of the last three Conference USA championship games and a three-year bowl streak is on the line the next two weeks. This is the final home game for winless UTEP with the Miners scoring just 55 points in six Conference USA games with two of the tougher games on the season remaining. LA TECH BY 21 South Alabama (-6) GEORGIA SOUTHERN South Alabama hasn t had sustained success but they seem to score a notable upset every season. The Jaguars knocked off Arkansas State last week to make the Sun Belt race a lot more interesting. South Alabama closes with two road games looking to get to a second straight bowl game and this week s game with 0-9 Georgia Southern is a promising opportunity. Georgia Southern won 24-9 last season in Mobile however and the Eagles have played pretty well since the coaching change with competitive games the last three weeks vs. three of the one-loss teams in the Sun Belt. SA BY 4 Tcu (-7½) TEXAS TECH TCU s case as national playoff threat has ended but the Horned Frogs will be favored to win out to get another shot at Oklahoma in the Big XII title game. It appears TCU will be without leading rusher Darius Anderson the rest of the way however. This will be a second straight road game against a Texas Tech team that needs one more win in a tough remaining set of games. The Red Raiders weren t overly impressive last week but knocked off Baylor in Arlington to keep bowl hopes alive. Texas Tech surprised TCU in Fort Worth last season in overtime and has covered in four of the past five meetings, though they allowed 82 points in the exception in TCU BY 3

4 IOWA (-8½) Purdue The Iowa defense kept them in the game last week against Wisconsin but ultimately the Hawkeyes wound up with only 66 net yards of offense. Iowa has gone 5-1 at home this season with the one miss a last second loss to Penn State as Iowa City has provided a nice edge. Purdue has shown some promise in Jeff Brohm s first season but there have been many missed opportunities. The last four Big Ten losses have all come in very close games with 10 points last week at Northwestern the largest deficit. The Boilermakers botched a few early scoring chances in that game and put up nearly 400 passing yards behind sophomore quarterback Elijah Sindelar but running the ball proved challenging. Iowa put up 49 points to win at Purdue last season in a game with even yardage and another close game for Purdue looks possible as the OSU win looks like an outlier for Iowa. IOWA BY 2 OREGON (PK) Arizona Arizona had a convincing win in its home finale and this could be a dangerous game ahead of next week s rivalry game in Tempe. The Ducks are one of the few teams that can keep up with Arizona on the ground and with a bye week last week the offense should be able to get on track regardless of which quarterback ends up playing this week. Oregon is still short of bowl eligibility and while Arizona has scored 148 more points than Oregon in Pac-12 play this should be a favorable opportunity for the Ducks against a suspect Arizona defense. Oregon is allowing just 3.7 yards per rush this season and Arizona hasn t been the same team on the road this season with a pair of narrow wins and a double-digit loss. OREGON BY 3 OHIO STATE (-39½) Illinois The Buckeyes are in control of the Big Ten East. A win this week is assumed ahead of next week s game with Michigan with a spot in the Big Ten championship likely. Ohio State s playoff case will be flimsy in any scenario as they won t trump the Oklahoma team that won in Columbus and the ACC and SEC appear to still have multiple viable candidates. Erratic is the only way to describe this year s team with some bizarre results so struggling against the only winless Big Ten team wouldn t be a complete shock. In a challenging season Illinois has held the past four foes below 30 points to keep most of the losses respectable and suspect focus and motivation should be a given for the Buckeyes this week. OHIO STATE BY 35 FLORIDA (-10½) Uab 3:00 PM The Blazers have made a triumphant return to college football now at 7-3. A win at Florida would certainly be a great stamp on the campaign with the Gators floundering with five straight defeats. Florida only had 301 yards last week and couldn t top 20 points despite being handed four turnovers. Out of the postseason another coaching turnover ahead this isn t a team likely to bring great energy for this late season game vs. a Conference USA team ahead of next week s rivalry game with Florida State. FLORIDA BY 3 Arizona State (-7) OREGON STATE Arizona State is a win short of bowl eligibility ahead of next week s rivalry game with Arizona. The Sun Devils are just 1-3 on the road and the defense that impressed mid-season has struggled in recent games. Oregon State has played hard since the coaching change with a few competitive results. This is the first home game since the Beavers nearly upset Stanford. Arizona State lost as a similarly-priced favorite in the last trip to Corvallis when Arizona State was the #7 ranked team in the nation, and the Sun Devils are actually without a S/U win at Oregon State since Look for the Beavers to be a serious upset threat this week. ARIZONA STATE BY 3 MEMPHIS (-11½) Smu An epic comeback bid by SMU wound up just short last week at Navy as the Mustangs take on a tough road trip. Memphis is in control of the AAC West and with the finale with East Carolina the Tigers effectively have the division title locked up barring a colossal upset next week. SMU lost 51-7 in this matchup last season and 63-0 in the last trip to Memphis as there should be no lack of motivation from the underdog. Memphis might be a bit flat out of the bye week but SMU could be in a tough emotional spot. MIAMI, FL (-19½) Virginia Is Miami the national title threat that has dominated highly regarded foes the past two weeks or is this still the team that slipped by in several games vs. middle-of-the-pack ACC squads? This is a dangerous game for the Hurricanes now fully in the spotlight and certainly a risk to be looking ahead to the ACC Championship the next two weeks with their spot confirmed. Virginia has quietly won six games with one of the conference s better passing attacks as Kurt Benkert has 21 touchdown throws. Turnovers were the difference for Miami last season in a 20-point win in Charlottesville in a game that was tight in the first half. MIAMI BY 10 Iowa State (-9½) BAYLOR 1:30 PM The Cyclones lost a heartbreaker last week in a shootout with Oklahoma State while also now being down to fourth string quarterback Zeb Noland, who had some success in relief of Kyle Kempt last week. Baylor hasn t looked like a 1-9 team in several Big XII games, losing by eight vs. Oklahoma and by two against West Virginia. Last week the Bears out-gained Texas Tech soundly but lost by 14. In this home finale the Bears are a serious threat despite the contrasting season results. IOWA STATE BY 3 Mississippi State (-11½) ARKANSAS The Bulldogs did a lot of things right last week but wound up surrendering a late score hosting Alabama for a difficult defeat. With the Egg Bowl next this road game appears to be in a dangerous situation with the Bulldogs losing badly in two of three SEC road tests. Arkansas won last season hosting Arkansas as the underdog has covered in the last three meetings. Freshman quarterback Cole Kelley gave way to Austin Allen s return last week and Kelley was arrested after the game to add more headaches to a difficult season. Arkansas has two difficult home games left with Bret Bielema s job potentially at stake and the Razorbacks did play much better than the final score indicated last week. MISSISSIPPI STATE BY 4 Missouri (-8½) VANDERBILT 6:30 PM Missouri is clicking on offense with 215 points in four straight wins. The competition has been suspect with two non-conference wins and a pair of SEC East wins over teams making coaching changes. The level of competition won t change in the final two weeks however with road dates vs. disappointing SEC squads as winning out to reach 7-5 looks likely. The lines for the Tigers have climbed dramatically in recent weeks as getting in early may be important. Vanderbilt could win out to reach 6-6 but the recent performances haven t offered signs of that potential. MISSOURI BY 16 WASHINGTON (-17) Utah 9:30 PM After blowing out UCLA the previous week, Utah (5-5) fell to No. 19 Washington State (9-2) at home, 33-25, on Saturday. The Utes defense couldn t contain Cougars QB Luke Falk who threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns. Utah made plenty of mistakes with three early turnovers and seven turnovers throughout the game. Utah is reeling, having lost five of its last six games. Utah needs to win one of its final two games to become bowl eligible. Washington (8-2) is coming off a setback to Stanford (7-3) last Friday night. The Huskies couldn t corral Bryce Love who rushed for 166 yards and scored three touchdowns. Washington used an up-tempo offensive attack to score twice early but the Cardinal defense stiffened to bounce UW out of the national race and likely the Pac-12 North race unless Stanford is upset by California. WASHINGTON BY 7 AUBURN (-36) UL-Monroe UL Monroe (4-5) survived a shootout with Appalachian State (5-4) for a victory in the Warhawks last contest Nov. 4. Even with a week off, it will be difficult for the Warhawks to compete against Auburn (8-2). Despite their record, the Warhawks can produce points, having scored less than 20 points in a game just once this season. Auburn, coming off a huge win over previous No. 1 Georgia, will be looking to keep its momentum rolling at home. Not only have the Tigers won three straight SEC games, they re highpowered offense has tallied more than 40 points in each of the wins. The Tigers outgained Georgia but with the season-defining Iron Bowl some will look for a letdown at this price. AUBURN BY 38 OKLAHOMA STATE (-21) Kansas State Kansas State (5-5) took a hit to its chances of becoming bowl eligible with a loss to West Virginia last week. K-State s defense played well against a strong Mountaineer attack, but the offense couldn t keep up. The Wildcats started freshman Skylar Thompson at quarterback for the first time. Thompson struggled, completing only 13 passes and throwing two interceptions with no touchdowns. Oklahoma State (8-2) rallied to beat Iowa State (6-4), 49-42, on the road last Saturday. With the win, the Cowboys improved to 5-2 in the Big 12 with their remaining games against K-State and Kansas. Oklahoma State still has a chance to win the conference title, but they need some help. The Cowboys have scored more than 50 points four times this season and nearly did so again last week, knocking off a strong defensive team on the road. OKLAHOMA STATE BY 27 COLORADO STATE (-32½) San Jose State For 1-10 San Jose State, a miserable season continued with a loss to 2-8 Nevada in Reno. San Jose State fell behind 38-7 at halftime and never recovered. The Spartans lone bright spot was RB Tyler Nevens who finished with 118 yards and a touchdown. Most of San Jose State s loses haven t even been close and that s likely to continue this week at Colorado State (6-5). The Rams are coming off a stunning loss to Boise State (8-2) in overtime. The Rams are certainly kicking themselves after this loss, considering they scored TDs on each of their first five possessions and built a lead at halftime. San Jose State s turnover prone offense should help the Rams close the regular season with a big win. CSU BY 35 PENN STATE (-26) Nebraska 3:00 PM A once promising season has turned upside down for Nebraska. The Cornhuskers dropped to 4-6 with an ugly loss at 5-5 Minnesota last Saturday. Nebraska is desperate for a win to become bowl eligible but it will be difficult in the Huskers final two games at Penn State and back home against Iowa. The last time Nebraska finished with only four wins in a season was For Penn State (8-2), dreams of playing in the College Football Playoff may be gone, but the Nittany Lions rebounded from two-straight losses to crush Rutgers (4-6) 35-6 at home. Armed with big stars on offense, the Nittany Lions have produced some inconsistent offensive numbers through 10 games and will be hard to trust at this price. PSU BY 21

5 Lsu (-15½) TENNESSEE LSU (7-3) eventually pulled away from Arkansas, dropping the Razorbacks last Saturday. RB Derrice Guice had another impressive game, rushing for three touchdowns. The Tigers rushing attack has already surpassed 2,000 yards this season with two games remaining. Coach Ed Orgeron has also seen steady play from QB Danny Etling who has 11 TDs to only two interceptions this season. The No. 24-ranked Tigers could keep a strong late season run going with a win in Knoxville. Tennessee, after falling hard to Missouri, 50-17, dismissed coach Butch Jones on Sunday. Jones could never get the 4-6 Volunteers on track and has been on the hot seat most of the season. The Vols are 0-6 in the SEC and they ve used four different quarterbacks this season. Coaching changes occasionally provide a spark but that isn t likely this late in the season. LSU BY 28 NOTRE DAME (-18) Navy After starting the season 5-0, Navy (6-3) lost three straight before barely hanging on to defeat 6-4 SMU on Saturday. RB Malcolm Perry carved up the Mustangs with 282 yards and four touchdowns on 33 carries. After three straight 100-plus yard rushing performances earlier in the season (all Navy wins), Perry was held to under 70 yards and only carried the ball 17 times in each of the Midshipmen s loses. Notre Dame (8-2) was riding high before getting humbled at Miami, 41-8 last Saturday. However, the Irish will be looking for revenge in South Bend after a loss last season in this series. Notre Dame hasn t been capable of winning big games during the Brian Kelly era but the run defense numbers support the Irish in a matchup of two great rushing offenses with Zach Abey still a question mark to return for the Midshipmen at quarterback. NOTRE DAME BY 23 Houston (-9½) Tulane 3:00 PM Houston (6-3) jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and easily topped 2-7 East Carolina, 52-27, on Nov. 4. QB D Eriq King tossed three touchdown passes and ran for a score in the blowout win. King has played well in the last two games for Houston and the sophomore could be the Cougars QB of the future. Coming off a bye, the bowl-bound Cougars should be ready for 4-6 Tulane. The Green Wave snapped a four-game skid with a thrilling OT win over East Carolina (2-8) on Saturday. Tulane carries a strong rushing attack led by Dontrell Hilliard who rushed for 189 yards in the win over the Pirates. The Green Wave can still become bowl eligible, but with remaining games against Houston and SMU, it won t be easy and the run defense has surrendered 5.5 yards per carry this season. HOUSTON BY 13 New Mexico State (-4) UL-LAFAYETTE 4:00 PM New Mexico State (4-5) held off a threat from 2-7 Texas State, taking a win on the road ahead of last week s bye. QB Tyler Rogers has thrown 23 TDs, but also 15 interceptions this season while 7th nationally in passing yards. The Ragin Cajuns (4-5) could not keep up with SEC stalwart Ole Miss last week, falling in Oxford. It didn t help that Louisiana was without four starters, with suspensions announced right before kickoff. However, back to Sun Belt action this week against an inconsistent New Mexico State team, the Ragin Cajuns should be able to rebound looking to avenge a overtime defeat from last season. The Aggies had gone 3-32 S/U in the previous 35 road games but are 3-3 this season. NMS BY 3 IDAHO (-9) Coastal Carolina 4:00 PM After nearly upsetting Arkansas the previous week Coastal Carolina was hammered by Troy last week at home. The Chanticleers have lost eight in a row having to turn to QB Kilton Anderson in recent weeks with less effective numbers. Idaho (3-6) had a bye last week while possibly without its starting quarterback as well as the line will be late to release on this game. The Vandals pushed Troy to the brink on Nov. 2 before falling on the road in the team s late game. While Idaho has endured a disappointing campaign in its final FBS season it won t be a shock to see the team rally to 6-6 with the remaining schedule. IDAHO BY 7 NORTH TEXAS (-3) Army 5:30 PM Army (8-2) has won six straight after knocking off Duke (4-6) on Saturday to finish the season undefeated at West Point. The last time the Black Knights finished with a perfect 6-0 home record was in If they can win their final two games they will match their best record in program history. Led by running back Ahmad Bradshaw, Army will pound the ball, having racked up more than 3,500 yards on the ground this fall. North Texas (7-3) could pose a challenge this week. The Mean Green is coming off a pounding of 0-10 UTEP in Denton. North Texas has already clinched a spot in the Conference USA title game Dec. 2, which will likely come against Florida Atlantic as there may not be great urgency this week while facing a challenging offense to defend. ARMY BY 3 ARKANSAS STATE (-26) Texas State Despite its 2-8 record, Texas State challenged 6-3 Georgia State before falling last week. QB Damian Williams had a strong outing, finishing with three TDs and more than 300 yards through the air. The Red Wolves are coming off a tough setback to South Alabama last Saturday in Mobile. Arkansas State QB Justice Hansen threw four interceptions in the loss as turnovers have been an issue for a team that is now in a tightlypacked group on top of the Sun Belt. ARKANSAS STATE BY 24 FLORIDA ATLANTIC (-14½) Florida International Florida International saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a loss to Old Dominion in Miami. The Panthers defense couldn t stop the running game which isn t a great sign for this matchup. QB Alex McGough has been a productive passer in his senior season. The Panthers have struck on several big plays to WR Thomas Owens who is averaging more than 15 yards per reception. Florida Atlantic won its sixth-straight game last week, defeating Louisiana Tech to become bowl eligible for the first time in four years. The Owls defense is suspect, however, allowing more than 500 total yards against Louisiana Tech despite the convincing win. FAU BY 7 Boston College (-21) Connecticut At Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts UConn dropped its third-straight contest, falling to and undefeated UCF. The Huskies couldn t keep up with UCF s dynamic offense. UConn had some life after QB David Pindell entered the game and passed for more than 200 yards and he will now start as the team looks to next season. Boston College nearly pulled off another impressive win before falling to NC State on Saturday. The Eagles lost starting QB Anthony Brown to injury early but still had a chance to tie the game late. With Brown out, the Eagles will probably lean more heavily freshman RB AJ Dillon as the offense has been less dynamic with junior Darius Wade at QB. Boston College is also still fighting to become bowl eligible as this game won t be overlooked. BC BY 21 Marshall (PK) TEXAS SAN ANTONIO Marshall got back to its winning ways with a win against Western Kentucky at home. The Thundering Herd used timely defense (a pick-six late in the game) to seal the win, snapping a two-game skid. Marshall doesn t have a high-powered offense but the Herd do enough to keep winning and the defense has made some big plays. UTSA dropped another close game last week, falling to UAB in San Antonio for second-straight narrow defeat. UTSA is 0-4 ATS at home this season. MARSHALL BY 7 MISSISSIPPI (-3) Texas A&M Texas A&M took a break from its rigorous SEC slate to dismantle 3-7 New Mexico at College Station. The Aggies improved to 6-4, securing another bowl berth. Led by QB Nick Starkel, the Aggies scored 35 points in the second quarter and were never challenged. Starkel finished with 416 yards passing and four touchdowns and didn t even play in the second half. Ole Miss (5-5) is coming off its own non-sec pounding, cruising to a win against Louisiana. The Rebels seem to have found their QB in junior Jordan Ta amu who has fired seven TDs in the last two games. Ole Miss is playing hard down the stretch. OLE MISS BY 4 WISCONSIN (-7½) Michigan Wisconsin blew past a solid Iowa team last Saturday, winning Wisconsin is certainly a second-half team, coming back from early deficits the past two weeks for lopsided wins. The running game continues to pace the offense that has struggled with turnovers despite the perfect start, while the defense has posted some of the nation s best results, though through a schedule that can be questioned. Michigan has recovered nicely since its humbling loss to Penn State, having won three straight to reach 8-2. While the Wolverines have faced some of the Big Ten s lesser opponents, they ve won each game handily. Two elite run defenses face off and while Michigan is winning behind Brandon Peters, the sophomore has been completely untested with only 45 attempts the last three weeks. WISCONSIN BY 14 USC (-16) Ucla 7:00 PM UCLA probably didn t envision being 5-5 at this point in the season, but the Bruins can still earn bowl. The Bruins have potential offensively, holding off Arizona State with a win last week in the return of Josh Rosen. With not much of a running game, Rosen is clearly the anchor, having passed for more than 3,000 yards already this season. USC rolled over Colorado, in Boulder last week. The Trojans have already clinched the Pac-12 South and could feel like they are still a playoff threat. USC has won convincingly the past two years while this will be a NFL quarterback showcase USC s running game will likely be the key to a Trojans victory. USC BY 21 STANFORD (-16) California 7:00 PM California was off last week after beating Oregon State, now 5-5 with a pair of road games remaining. The Bears have been fairly balanced on offense this season as a mild surprise to be in the bowl mix. The Cardinal (7-3) earned an impressive win over Washington last Friday. RB Bryce Love continued leading the nation with 1,622 yards. Stanford is tied with Washington State for first place in the Pac-12 North as they need a win here and then hope that Washington wins the Apple Cup next week to get a shot at USC in the Pac-12 title game. STANFORD BY 13 SAN DIEGO STATE (-15) Nevada 9:30 PM Nevada earned its second win of the season with a pouncing of lowly San Jose State last week. The Wolf Pack allow nearly 31 points per game but have a decent rushing attack on offense. Two straight losses in October dropped San Diego State from the Top 25, but the Aztecs have won their last two contests, At 4-2 in the Mountain West, the Aztecs are chasing 5-1 Fresno State with the Bulldogs facing two difficult remaining games. This game figures to be closer than last season s result. SDSU BY 14
