They are looking for the program s first ever win over the Pride as the visitors have taken each of the first four meetings, including a decision last December on Long Island. LAST TIME OUT The Red Foxes traveled to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam tournament over the Thanksgiving break. Emma O Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) set a new career-high with 10 points, but it was not enough as Marist fell at the hands of #14/12 Purdue on Thursday night. For the second straight game, O Connor set a career-high, finishing with 18 points, as Marist put together a spirited defensive effort, but fell Friday night to the University of Connecticut, who came into the game ranked second in the country. Elizabeth Beynnon (Burlington, Vt.) scored a game-high 22 points and the Marist women s basketball team registered the program s first ever win over an ACC opponent with a victory over Wake Forest Saturday night. Beynnon finished an astounding 8-9 from the floor, including 2-3 from three-point range, against the Demon Deacons and was named to the Paradise Jam All-Tournament Team. For the weekend, she averaged 10.3 PPG, 3.0 RPG and shot.393 (11-28) from the field. PROBABLE STARTERS No. Name Pos. Ht. Yr. The three losses have come at the hands of Texas, St. John s and St. Joseph s. The Pride are led by 2012 All-American and 2011 Team USA team member Shante Evans. Evans is averaging 14.8 PPG and 9.8 RPG, both tops on the team. She currently sits fourth all-time at Hofstra with 1,677 career points and is one rebound shy of breaking the school record. Last season, the Pride finished 12 in the NCAA in scoring, averaging 74.9 PPG. HISTORY LESSON - MARIST VS. HOFSTRA This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the Red Foxes and Pride. Hofstra holds a 4-0 series lead, with three of those wins coming in the early 1980 s. The two teams renewed the matchup last season when Marist traveled to Long Island for Hofstra s Christmas tournament. In last year s contest, an exciting game that came down to the wire, Marist fell just short to a powerful Hofstra team Thursday afternoon in the championship game of the New York Life Holiday Invitational, presented by Hofstra. Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) hit what appeared to be a game-tying layup at the buzzer that was originally called good on the floor, but after a video review was called off with the ruling that she did not get the shot off in time. Yarde and Dulin tied for the team lead with 14 points apiece and Yarde led the Red Foxes with seven rebounds and set a career-high with four blocks and the Red Foxes had 10 blocks as a team.. Ockenden set a career-high with 13 points and Brandy Gang (Hartville, Ohio) also had a double-digit performance with 11 points. Kristina Danella (Manalapan, N.J.) chipped in with seven points off the bench. Freshman Natalie Gomez (Andover, Mass) set career-highs with four points, four assists and four steals in 30 minutes. MARIST VS. THE CAA Thursday will be the first and only regular season meeting for Marist versus an opponent from the Colonial Athletic Association. Overall, Marist is 3-9 all-time against opponents from the CAA. The three wins have come against Northeastern (2-2) and William & Mary (1-0) while the Red Foxes are winless against Delaware (0-2) and Hofstra (0-4). Over the past five years, Marist is 2-1 against the conference. Both wins against Northeastern came in the and season as well as last year s loss at Hofstra Hofstra Basketball Hofstra Season Box Score (as of Nov 26, 2012) All games RECORD: OVERALL HOME AWAY NEUTRAL ALL GAMES CONFERENCE NON-CONFERENCE Total 3-Point F-Throw Rebounds ## Player gp-gs min avg fg-fga fg% 3fg-fga 3fg% ft-fta ft% off def tot avg pf dq a to blk stl pts avg 30 Evans, Shante Payton, Annie Thomas, Andreana Bond, Candace Jackson, Asia Onyeuku, Anma Green, Deven Thomas-Palmer, Dee Carter, Alexis Epps, Sydni Sherrill, Ruth Kudron, McKenzie Team Total Opponents Score by Periods 1st 2nd Totals Hofstra Opponents
3 EARLY MORNING COFFEY Following her performance on Nov. 17 versus Princeton, in just her third carere game, freshman Sydney Coffey was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week. On defense, Coffey was in charge of covering 2012 All-American Niveen Rasheed and held her to just 3-17 shooting for the game and forced her into five turnovers. Offensively, Coffey scored 13 points for the Red Foxes while more than doubling her previous career-high with 31 minutes. It was the first weekly award of Coffey s young career and first on the season for the Red Foxes. Last season, Marist earned five weekly awards. Corielle Yarde was named the MAAC Player of the week three times (Dec. 5, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2) and Kelsey Beynnon (now Elizabeth) was also honored on Feb. 20. Natalie Gomez was named the Co-MAAC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 26. REGULAR SEASON RESULTS VS. That one win however came in their last game versus a top-25 foe when they beat #21 Nebraska in the season. That game was also played at a neutral site, taking place at the Duel in the Desert tournament in Las Vegas. STARTING LINEUPS After using eight different lineups all of last season, Head Coach Brian Giorgis has already used four different starting lineups this year. So far, the only three players that have stayed locked in the starting five are Leanne Ockenden at guard and Elizabeth Beynnon and Emma O Connor at the forward positions. Casey Dulin has started five of the six games, but did not start against Princeton due to back spasms. Natalie Gomez has started the past four games at the point. Kristina Danella, Kristine Best and Sydney Coffey have all also made one start. Coffey made her first career start in just her third career game, becoming the fastest player to join the starting lineup in Giorgis tenure. INTO THE RECORD BOOKS Elizabeth Beynnon s 8-9 shooting performace against Wake Forest on 11/24 tied her for the 4th best single-game mark in Marist history. She knocked herself down a peg as last year, when she was known as Kelsey, she shot from the field versus Canisius on Feb. 17 which is now tied for 9th all-time. In the same game, Kristina Danella shot 5-6 (.833) from beyond the three-point arc, putting her in a tie for 5th best all-time.
