1 2016 SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY MEMBERSHIP GUIDE
2 Greetings Supporters! This is a historic time to be an! San Diego State has won 30 team conference titles since the beginning of the academic year. We honored 313 Scholar Athletes. Six (6) times in the last six (6) years a San Diego State athletic team has finished in the top 10 in a NCAA team national championship competition. Since the beginning of the academic year, San Diego State ranks third nationally in football and men s basketball combined winning percentage, trailing only Ohio State and Louisville. These are exciting times on the Mesa! You should be proud of the student-athletes who compete in the classroom and on the field of competition every day. As an athletic department, our goal is to graduate student-athletes and win championships. To do this at a national level, SDSU Athletics must continue to perform at the highest level possible. The support of the community is critical now more than ever. We need your assistance in this process, in order to maintain momentum for our student-athletes and programs. Here are some ways in which you can help us continue in our success: 1. Join the Club. Our student-athlete scholarship bill is projected to be over $9.1 million this year. In order to provide the necessary resources to our student-athletes, scholarship support must be a priority for our fundraising efforts here at SDSU. If you are already an Club member, thank you for your continued support. We ask that you please consider an increase in your annual gift and help us by telling your friends, family members and colleagues about the Club. You truly make a difference in the lives of our student-athletes! 2. Purchase season tickets for our sports. We offer affordable pricing for our season tickets and we can assure you the entertainment value is well worth it. With our continued success, San Diego State Athletics is the hottest ticket in town! We want opponents to feel the energy of our fan-filled competition venues! On behalf of 550 plus student-athletes, 17 head coaches, numerous assistant coaches and staff members, thank you for your interest in Athletics. Your investment in Athletics is greatly appreciated! We look forward to seeing you at an event in the near future! Go s! James M. Sterk Director of Athletics San Diego State University

8 Coryell Legacy Educate, Innovate, Endow A way to continue your support In November of 201, the Club and San Diego State Athletics launched the Coryell Legacy program with one priority in mind to secure the future financial stability of the s. Named in honor of legendary head football coach, Don Coryell, the giving society allows passionate s fans to contribute endowments and estate gifts in support of San Diego State Athletics. Goal of $25 million annually for Coryell Legacy $16 million pledged for the s since the launch More than 50 Club members left their legacy for SDSU Athletics! A gift in your will to San Diego State Athletics is a wonderful way to build a legacy. This future gift is an extension of your current commitment and support one that will ensure a secure and brighter future for generations of Athletes. Your Will or Trust A gift in your will or trust, called a bequest, works well for people who believe in and want to provide future support to SDSU and maintain their resources. A bequest is: Flexible. Because you are not actually making a gift until after your lifetime, you can change your mind at any time. Versatile. You can structure the bequest in many ways, including leaving either a stated amount or percentage of your estate to SDSU. Convenient. You have access to your assets throughout your lifetime. Your Endowment Create a living legacy. An endowed fund is established to last in perpetuity, with only the payout from the fund spent each year. This means your gift will give forever, providing the financial foundation our future depends on. 6

12 Frequently Asked Questions What are Priority Points Priority points are one of the most important parts of a donor s account. Priority points are used to determine an account s seating location, new seat request, additional seat requests, seat relocation requests and post-season ticket availability. Each account has two sets of priority points, one for football and one for men s basketball. The way that priority points are calculated is below: SDSU Priority Point System One Point for every $100 donated (unrestricted) to the Club s fund drive (current year) One Point for every $1,000 Club lifetime donation (unrestricted and restricted) Two points for each continuous year of season tickets (sport specific) With the purchase of 2016 Football s you will receive a one-time FIVE POINT BONUS for the season (does not carry over into the season) in your priority if you order by August 31, 2016 What is the difference between unrestricted and restricted gifts? An unrestricted gift to Athletics is one which is used to cover the educational expenses of SDSU studentathletes. Priority seating contributions are unrestricted. A restricted gift is designated by the donor for a specific purpose, often through a sport specific group such as the Excellence Fund, Full Court Press Club, or RBI Club. What is the Director s Cabinet? The Director s Cabinet is an exclusive group of business and civic leaders committed to the success of Athletics through private gifts. Director s Cabinet members are entitled to exclusive benefits and activities. Membership requires a $30,000 annual donation, tax deductible minus benefits received. See pages -5 for more information regarding the Director s Cabinet benefits. Does my unrestricted gift to the Club qualify me for priority seating in Qualcomm Stadium and Viejas Arena? Yes! An unrestricted gift to the Club at a giving level associated with priority seating benefits will qualify you for priority seating in designated areas of Qualcomm Stadium and/or Viejas Arena. Required donations vary by seating location and number of seats desired. Is my gift to Athletics tax deductible? Yes! The amount of your deduction equals the gift minus the value of membership benefits received. To qualify for tax deduction that is equal to the full amount of your donation, you must decline all benefits. Gifts made in association with priority seating benefits are subject to the 1988 Tax Law, allowing for 80% deduction after value of all benefits received is subtracted from the original gifts. We recommend you consult with a tax advisor regarding the deductibility of your gift in relation to tickets purchased and benefits received. The Club is the fundraising arm of SDSU Athletics. Gifts in support of the Club s mission will be administered by The Campanile Foundation (TCF). TCF is the 501 (c) 3 non profit organization for San Diego State University.
