JONATHAN DISMUKE Head Coach Third Season at Houston Auburn 2004 Jonathan Dismuke enters his third season as the head coach of the University of Houston golf program in As a student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach, Dismuke has enjoyed tremendous success throughout his collegiate golf career while competing against the nation s top players and teams. As impressive as his and his teams achievements have been on the course, he also has worked dligently behind the scenes to continue to move Cougar Golf forward. In the spring of 2010, Dismuke played a key role in brokering a partnership with Redstone Golf Club to make that facility the Cougars home course. He also worked closely with administrators, alumni and the community to raise funds for the construction of the Dave Williams Golf Academy at Redstone Golf Club. This facility offers the latest technology and amenties for Cougar student-athletes and makes Houston the only school in the state of Texas that can boast of a home course/practice facility that annually hosts a PGA TOUR event. AT HOME IN HOUSTON Armed with one of the nation s youngest lineups in , Dismuke led the Cougars to five top-five team finishes and seven top-10 finishes throughout the season, including a second-place showing at the Cabo Collegiate in the second tournament of the fall. The Cougars regularly competed with five student-athletes in their first seasons in the scarlet and white, including four true freshmen. Overcoming a challenging stretch late in the spring, Dismuke guided the Cougars to a tie for fourth place at the Conference USA Championships. It was the program s highest finish at the league s annual postseason event since Appearing in his first collegiate postseason tournament, Curtis Reed tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard and was named to the league s All-Tournament Team. Dismuke wasted little time in making his impact felt with the Cougars during his first season, though he was not hired until mid-july 2009 and forced to play catch-up both on the recruiting trail and in building the team s schedule. The Cougars captured the team championship at the Husky Invitational to wrap up the 2009 fall season in only the fourth tournament of his head coaching career. In addition to the team title, Jackie Lindsey won medalist honors at the Husky Invitational with four Cougars finishing among the top-seven individual leaders at that event. When the Cougars opened the 2010 spring season at their own Redstone Challenge at Redstone Golf Club, Dismuke led Houston to a second-place team finish with Clark Mitzner earning medalist honors. Mitzner also was twice named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week during a three-week stretch in February, while Matt Eschenburg captured the award in October. By the time that the season was finished, Dismuke had led the Cougars to six top-10 teamfinishes, including four straight midway through the season with three top-five finishes. JOINING THE COUGARS It was that kind of success, as a student-athlete and as a coach, that made Houston administrators feel confident that Dismuke was the right man for the job. Jonathan is regarded as a rising star in the business, a quality individual and will serve as a great role model for our student-athletes as he helps to prepare them to be champions for life, Rhoades said. He truly cares about the total well being of his student-athletes and demands excellence from them in all areas of their lives. Dismuke joined a golf program that historically has ranked among the best in NCAA history, winning 16 NCAA team national championships and eight NCAA individual national crowns. The program also has produced 19 team conference champions, 20 individual conference champs and 44 All-America honorees while former 6

3 MEDIA ALMANAC HEAD COACH JONATHAN DISMUKE Cougars on the PGA Tour have won nealry $130 million during their careers. Much of what attracted me to the University of Houston is the past success of the golf program, Dismuke said. It is one of the most decorated programs in collegiate golf history, and I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this special program. AS AN ASSISTANT COACH As an assistant at Texas A&M during the season, Dismuke helped lead the Aggies to their first NCAA golf national championship. After emerging from tournament play, the Aggies claimed a 3-2 win against Arkansas in the final match to win the crown. He played a key role in advising Bronson Burgoon, who hit a 125-yard gap wedge from the deep rough far to the right of the fairway to within three inches of the 18th hole at Inverness Golf Club to clinch the match for the Aggies. Writers with Golfweek magazine called it one of the best shots in college golf history. Prior to joining Texas A&M, Dismuke served as an assistant coach at Mississippi from 2006 to During the season, he helped lead the Rebels to the NCAA East Regional and a fourth-place showing at the SEC Championship. During Dismuke s final season at Mississippi in 2008, the Rebels overcame an eighth-place finish at the SEC Championship to place sixth at the NCAA East Regional at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Mississippi continued its impressive postseason run with a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Championships on the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind. For his efforts that season, Dismuke was honored as a finalist for the Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award, presented by Taylor- Made-Adidas Golf. PLAYING CAREER As a four-year letterman at Auburn, he competed in four NCAA Regionals and three NCAA Championships and was a member of the 2002 Tiger team that won the SEC championship. His individual career was highlighted by numerous top-five showings, including a third-place finish at the 2004 NCAA Regional. That same season, he earned All-SEC honors and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. As a senior in 2004, he posted a three-round score of 211, including a 69 in the second round, at the Yale University Golf Club, at the NCAA East Regional to finish in a tie for fourth at that event. Advancing to the NCAA Championship, he opened the nation s top collegiate event with an impressive 68 and led the Tigers with a threeround score of 217 to finish among the top-40 leaders. Dismuke is one of only two Tigers in school history to compete in 11 NCAA Championship rounds and joins seven other Tigers who competed in 12 NCAA Regional rounds during their collegiate careers. A native of Calhoun, Miss., Dismuke has a decorated background on the course. He was the 1997 Mississippi State Junior Champion and was the Mississippi Junior Player of the Year in His amateur career included a victory at the Greystone Invitational (Birmingham, Ala.), where he set the competitive course record (65) and the tournament scoring record (202). He also set the Course Record at Mobile Country Club (Mobile, Ala.) en route to a third-place finish at the 2003 Labor Day Invitational. Dismuke qualified for the 1999 USGA U.S. Public Links Championship and the 2002 and 2004 U.S. Amateurs. In addition, he played two years of professional golf on the NGA Hooters Tour and received the NGA Golf Achievement Award in He also attended the PGA Tour Qualifying School in 2004 and Following his collegiate playing days, Dismuke received his bachelor s degree in education from Auburn in He and his wife Maggie were married in November The couple lives in Humble. WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT JONATHAN DISMUKE Houston Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades Jonathan is a proven winner in all areas of life, having demonstrated great leadership as both a player and a coach. He is regarded as a rising star in the business, a quality individual and will serve as a great role model for our studentathletes as he helps to prepare them to be champions for life. Coach Dismuke truly cares about the total well being of his student-athletes and demands excellence from them in all areas of their lives. He not only asks this of his players but leads by example. Texas A&M Head Coach J.T. Higgins Jonathan is passionate about his job and as hard a worker as I have ever seen. Houston hired the complete package, who can do everything. He will make the current players on the team better, and he will bring in talented players. Houston has one of the best young coaches in the country coming to work for them. We are very happy and excited for Diz and Maggie but at the same time we are sad to see them go. He is one of the best young coaches in the country. Diz is a tireless worker, a terrific recruiter and a good communicator. We are thankful for the year he gave to Texas A&M and wish him the best of luck at Houston. Note: Dismuke served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M in , when the Aggies won the NCAA Division I national championship Mississippi Head Coach Ernest Ross Jonathan will bring a lot of enthusiasm and ability. He has always been great with player relations and seems to get the most out of his players. In addition, I expect him to do a great job with alumni and booster relationships, bringing back the winning tradition to Houston golf. Note: Dismuke served as an assistant coach at Mississippi from 2006 to Arkansas Head Coach Brad McMakin Jonathan is the best assistant coach in the country. He knows talent, is a hard worker and will be dedicated to UH. He wants to bring championships back to the UH program. There is no doubt that his dedication and motivation will get things turned around quickly. UH hired the best guy in the business for the job. Former UH Golfer and Current Shadow Hawk Golf Club General Manager Paul Marchand In hiring Jonathan Dismuke, the University of Houston Athletics Department has signaled it is time to bring some new hardware to the trophy case. He has exceptional skills to bring to a program with a storied past at a time when it needs help. He is an exceptional young man with solid performances everywhere he has been -- a college golfer at Auburn, an assistant coach at Mississippi, and most recently an assistant coach at Texas A&M. Jonathon has the coaching talent and competitive passion that I predict will be the foundation of success for the next chapter in Cougar Golf. 7

In that role, he assists head coach Jonathan Dismuke in all aspects of the team, including practice scheduling, recruiting, scheduling and studentathlete development. He is a member of the PGA of America and the National Golf Coaches Association/Golf Coaches Association of America. AT HOUSTON Joining the Cougars in August 2010, Hill helped lead the Cougars to one of their most successful seasons in recent history. Playing with a lineup that featured four true freshmen and a sophomore in his first semester at Houston, the Cougars recorded five top-five and seven top-10 team finishes throughout the season. WIth a fourth-place showing at the Conference USA Championships, the Cougars earned their best finish at that event since 2003 with Curtis Reed being named to the All-Tournament Team. Chris fit what we were looking for better than anyone else and immediately provides our program with international connections, head coach Jonathan Dismuke said. He will relate well to our players and has done a fine job of player development throughout his career. For Hill, the move to the Cougar program was the perfect it. Jonathan is a coach that I have looked up to since I started working in college golf, and it is an honor to join him at a program with the history and tradition of the University of Houston, Hill said. I have been fortunate to work with coaches like Jonathan and Hank Haney during my career COACHING CAREER Hill joined the Cougar program after a twoyear stint as the men s and women s assistant coach at Houston Baptist. In , the Husky women s team won the Great West Conference championship by 21 strokes. Fast forward to the season, and it s easy to see why head coach Jonathan Dismuke is so optimistic about the program s future, this season and beyond. Our situation last year will make us better this year. Our young guys received so much playing experience, said Dismuke, who is entering his third season with the program. I look for them to return and know what to expect and how to go about their business and get better. Those young players combined with an impressive signing class give Dismuke and the Cougars muchneeded depth, a luxury the program rarely enjoyed during his first two seasons. We will be fresh and ready for every event. Coming down the stretch last year was a struggle for us, playing a lot of young guys, Dismuke said. With more depth, we can plug anyone into the lineup at any time. That kind of depth throughout the lineup does more than aid the Cougars during tournament competition. It challenges and pushes every member of the team from the beginning of the season to the end. It also allows a more competitive atmosphere, and it enhances your player development. The players must get better every day if they want to play. Everybody wants to play; everybody wants to get out and compete in travel, Dismuke said. To do that, you have to be one of our best players. If you have a team filled with guys that are competitive, your chances of sustaining a high level of player over the course of a season improves dramatically. THE RETURNEES Six lettermen return from the squad that finished in a tie for fourth at the Conference USA Championships, the program s best finish at the league s annual postseason event since Junior Will Dusenbury is the older member of that group. Transferring from Dallas Baptist at the semester break, Dusenbury competed in all but one spring tournament. He finished second on the team with a scoring average and tied for the team s low round of the year with a second-round 68 at the Desert Shootout. For his impressive efforts throughout the spring, Dusenbury was honored as the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year. Sophomore Curtis Reed was one of the team s most decorated players a year ago and should contend for the top spot in the Cougars lineup each week. Reed led the Cougars with a scoring average, 12 rounds of par or better and twice fired season-low 68s at the Seminole Intercollegiate and Louisiana Classics. However, Reed saved one of his best performances for last. With a 2-under-par 214 at the Conference USA Championships, the Castroville, Texas, native tied for fifth and earned a place on the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Jesse Droemer was a consistent player for the Cougars throughout the season and will play a key role this season. A year ago, Droemer competed in all but one tournament, finishing with a team-high-tying 12 sub-par rounds. The Sealy, Texas, native looks to use a successful summer campaign as a springboard for greater accomplishments this season. Droemer advanced to the field of 32 at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Oregon in late June. An all-around student-athlete, Droemer earned a place on the C-USA Commissioner s Honor Roll at the end of the season. Competing in his first collegiate season a year ago, sophomore Bryn Flanagan was another steady performer. He was one of three Cougars to compete in all 11 tournaments in During that time, Flanagan posted a average with nine sub-par rounds and tied for 15th at the Seminole Intercollegiate. The Krugersdorp, South Africa, native also excelled in the classroom, earning a place on the C-USA Commissioner s Honor Roll. Sophomore Wesley McClain joined Reed and Flanagan as the only players to compete in all 11 tournaments a year ago. The Diboll, Texas, native finished third on the team 11 rounds of par or better and fired back-to-back 69s during the final two rounds of the Desert Shootout. Junior Jordan Rumora competed in only three tournaments during the season but made the most of his opportunities. The Houston native and Cy-Fair High product finished third on the team with a scoring average and tied for 11th at the spring-opening Rice Intercollegiate. Eric Adler returns for his senior season as the elder statesman of the group. A year ago, the Sugar Land, Texas, native competed in one tournament at the Jim West Intercollegiate. Joseph Reynolds begins his junior season after playing at the Jim West Intercollegiate in THE NEWCOMERS With such a young team, Dismuke and the Cougars will welcome only three newcomers to the team this season. However, the members of that signing class possess 9

6 HOUSTON GOLF OUTLOOK award-winning resumes and will quickly challenge for playing time. Kyle Pilgrim joins the Cougars after an award-winning career at Colleyville Heritage. As a senior, he was a Class 5A All-State Second-Team honoree despite having only committed to golf full-time during his junior season. Pilgrim also has proven himself as an all-around student-athlete, earning a place on the Texas Academic All-State Team. As a student at Houston, he will enroll in the Honors College. Roman Robledo is a physically gifted young player who quickly impressed coaches with his potential. As a student at Harlingen South High, was a Class 5A All-State First Team selection as a senior and captured four consecutive District 31-5A indivdiual titles. A transfer from Michigan State, James Ross will be in his first season with the Cougars in but will take on a key role with the team. An experienced, older player, the Edinburgh, Scotland, native will be looked to for leadership by his coaches and younger teammates, on and off the court. Ross competed at Michigan State from 2009 to 2011 and put up impressive numbers during that time. He recorded four top-10 finishes, including medalist honors at the Fossum Invitational to open the fall season. THE SCHEDULE The Cougars will play 11 regular-season tournaments, highlighted by the return of The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate. Played all but one season from 1955 to 1997, the All-American Intercollegiate was a mainstay on the Cougar schedule and developed into one of the nation s premier collegiate tournaments. The event returned in 2006 and was last played in The event will cap the Cougars regular-season schedule and be played at The Woodlands Country Club on the 7,018-yard, par-72 Tournament Course on April Houston welcomes a nationally competitive 16-team field to the event, including Arkansas, Baylor, Clemson, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Minnesota, North Texas, Notre Dame, Rice, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M, Texas State, Tulsa, and UT Arlington. I initially wanted to delay hosting this for a few years, but everywhere I would speak fans would ask about reviving the All-American Intercollegiate, Dismuke said. This was something that Cougar Golf fans wanted, and it s something I am excited to bring back. Dismuke and assistant coach Chris Hill wasted little time in assembling a high-caliber field during the tournament s return. Eleven of the teams in the field (Arkansas, Baylor, Clemson, Lamar, North Texas, Notre Dame, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M, Tulsa and UT Arlington) competed in the 2011 NCAA Regionals with Minnesota and Rice sending individual participants to the NCAA postseason. An Overview The regular-season slate features 11 tournaments in six states. Dismuke and his team will earn their frequent flyer miles in with the Cougars playing as far north as Minnesota, as far east as Georgia and as far west as California. In addition to the travel, the Cougars also are scheduled to compete against some of the nation s top collegiate teams. I like the diversity of the schedule. We will see many different teams during the course of the year, and our strength of schedule has increased significantly from last year, Dismuke said. We have enough depth and talent to compete at the national level, and I wanted to put us on a stage to do that. These players have a lot of goals they want to accomplish while they are here. They have taken the mindset that it s their job to put Houston Golf on the map again. It s going to be fun to watch. Head Jonathan Dismuke The Fall Schedule The Cougars open the fall season at the Gopher Invitational on Sept in Wayzata, Minn. From there, the team will compete at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic on Sept at the Warren Course in South Bend, Ind. Houston wraps up its fall season with a pair of tournaments in the state of Texas. The Cougars will compete in an all-texas field at the Lone Star Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio on Oct From there, the team heads to Dallas to play at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, hosted by Baylor at Royal Oaks Country Club.
