The Kings led with 8:28 left in the first quarter before Dallas blitzed them with a run to lead, 83-61, at the half. The 83 points set a NBA playoff record for most points scored in a half. 5 2003 NBA PLAYOFFS - WESTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS Game 4 - May 11 at ARCO Arena - W, The Kings enjoyed a wire-to-wire victory after dropping a heartbreaker to the Mavericks on Saturday. After logging 56 of a possible 58 minutes in Game 3, Peja Stojakovic gave Sacramento 40 more on Sunday, scoring 15 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Hedo Turkoglu shook off a tough 1-of-8 performance in Game 3 to lead all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Showing no apparent signs of exhaustion, the Kings used a balanced scoring attack in the first quarter to take a slim advantage. Both Stojakovic and Michael Finley scored seven a piece in the second frame, but five points each from Keon Clark and Bobby Jackson bolstered the Sacramento lead to 11 at halftime. Dallas Big Four of Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley, Steve Nash and Nick Van Exel were held to just 12 points collectively in the half, including 0-of-10 by Nowitzki and Van Exelthe club s two leading scorers. The Kings led by 23 points in third quarter when Vlade Divac hit a free throw after being fouled by Walt Williams on a 6 hook shot with 2:49 left in the period. Dallas outscored the Kings by four in the fourth quarter, but never got closer than 13 for the remainder of the contest. Game 5 - May 13 at American Airlines Center - L, Sacramento seemingly carried the momentum to Dallas after a win in Game 4, jumping out to an early lead after one quarter. Hot shooting by Doug Christie and Peja Stojakovic bolstered the lead to 15 with 9:00 to play in the half. However, Dallas rallied to chip six points off the deficit heading into the locker room. Foul trouble for Kings center Vlade Divac spelled disaster for Sacramento, who couldn t find a hot hand in the third quarter. The Mavs quickly evened the score in the third with a three pointer from Michael Finley and jumpers from Dirk Nowitzki and Raja Bell. Bell s second long ball of the quarter at the 8:20 mark put Dallas ahead for good. Sacramento went on to shoot 12 percent (3-of-25) in the frame, scoring 10 points--a Dallas franchise opponent postseason-low. The Mavericks outscored the Kings in the second half, posting six players in double figures. For the second straight game, Doug Christie nearly registered a triple double, scoring a playoff career-high 21 points to complement a team-high tying nine rebounds and team-high seven assists. Dallas was led by 25 points from Steve Nash and 15 rebounds from Nowitzki. Game 6 - May 15 at ARCO Arena - W, The Kings extended their postseason life, surviving a 0-of-9 start from the field to force game seven in Big D on Saturday with a win at ARCO Arena. Trailing after one, the Kings erased the deficit and took a seven-point advantage on a Bobby Jackson driving lay-up with 4:46 to play in the half. Jim Jackson s driving lay-up with.02 in the quarter gave Sacramento a five-point lead heading into halftime. For 11 minutes in the third quarter, the Sacramento lead fluctuated between five and nine points before a Van Exel three-pointer, a Dirk Nowitzki turnaround jumper and another jumper by Van Exel whittled the Kings edge to just two points with 12 minutes remaining. The fourth quarter featured three lead changes before the Kings mustered an 8-0 run from 7:54 to 4:37, capped by a jump hook from Jim Jackson. The game was seemingly over with Sacramento holding an eight point lead with 1:31 to play, but Steve Nash hit back-to-back three pointers to cut the advantage to just two points with 50 ticks remaining. Two free throws each by the Jackson combo in between a Walt Williams 3pt miss iced the game for Sacramento. Game 7 - May 17 at American Airlines Center - L, The Kings playoff run ended as Dallas advanced to the Western Conference Finals with a win over the Kings at the American Airlines Center. Dirk Nowitzki recorded game-highs in points (30) and rebounds (19), Nick Van Exel added 23 points off the bench and Steve Nash finished with a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 13 assists. The Kings cut an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to five (87-82) with 8:27 left in the game, but the Mavericks went on an 8-0 run as part of a 22-7 spurt that put the game out the Kings reach. Mike Bibby led the Kings with 25 points while Jim Jackson added 24. Peja Stojakovic grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. 137
