8 Rule 7 Out of Bounds and Throw-ins The ball is out when: Touches or is touched by a player who is out of bounds Any person, object, or the floor out of bounds Any supporting structure of the backboard The back of the backboard The ceiling, overhead equipment, or supports The ball passes over a rectangular backboard
9 Rule 7 Out of Bounds and Throw-ins A player is out of bounds if he or she is touching the floor or any object other than a person on the outside of the boundary The ball is caused to go out of bounds by the last player who touches the ball in bounds If the ball touches a player who is out of bounds, then that player caused the ball to go out of bounds If players cause the ball to go out of bounds simultaneously, the alternating possession arrow will be used to determine who gets the next possession
10 Rule 7 Out of Bounds and Throw-ins The is awarded out of bounds to the nearest spot when: A violation occurs (see 9-2 though 9-13 for violations) After a field goal or free throw that isn t a technical, flagrant, or intentional foul After free throws for a technical, flagrant, or intentional foul After a player or team control foul After a common foul before the bonus is in effect After a held ball

12 Rule 7 Out of Bounds and Throw-ins Resumption of play: If a team is not ready after time-out or interval between quarters, the official will sound his or her whistle then: Place the ball at the disposal of Team A if they are ready or place the ball on the floor at the spot of a throw-in for team A if they are not ready The official will begin a count and if a violation occurs, this process will begin for Team B If a violation occurs and the delaying team continues to delay when authorized to make a thrown-in, a technical foul will be administered

14 Rule 8 Free Throw Free Throw Lane spaces Marked lane spaces may be occupied by a maximum of two offensive players and four defensive players The marked lane spaces on each side above the block must be occupied by opponents of the free thrower The second marked lane spaces on each side may be occupied by teammates of the free thrower The marked lane spaces closest to the free thrower on each side may be occupied by the opponents of the free thrower

18 Rule 8 Free Throw Attempting Free Throws During a shooting foul (or intentional foul), the player who was fouled must attempt the free throw If a player is injured and cannot attempt the free throws, his or her substitute will shoot the free throws If no substitute is available, the head coach or captain will choose one of the remaining players on the floor to attempt the free throw During a technical foul, any player (including eligible substitutes) may attempt the free throws
19 Rule 8 Free Throw Once the ball is placed at the deposal of the thrower: He/she has 10 seconds to release the ball He/she cannot fake the shot Players cannot disconcert the free thrower Players cannot leave a lane space until the ball is released The free thrower may not cross the vertical plane with his/her foot until the ball hits the rim or backboard Players in marked lane spaces may not have any foot over the vertical plane of the marked lane space
20 Rule 8 Free Throw Immediate Violation Offense enters the lane before the ball is released, free thrower crosses the line, or enters inside the 3 point arc before the ball hits the rim or backboard Delayed Violation Non-shooting team enters the lane before the ball is released or the 3 point arc before the ball hits the rim or backboard If there is a simultaneous violation: Administer the remaining free throws If there are no remaining free throws, go to the AP arrow to determine who gets the ball
21 Rule 8 Free Throw If there is a violation by the non-shooting team first when both players are in a marked lane space only penalize the nonshooting team If the basket goes in, ignore the violations If there is a violation by a player in a marked lane space (nonshooting) then by a team outside the three point arc (shooting team), the play is dead and the AP arrow determines possession
