LAST TIME OUT: FALCONS RIDE FAST START TO WIN AT BRADLEY The Falcons women's basketball team broke out to an early lead, riding a hot first half and a balanced scoring attack to a win over host Bradley (Dec. 21). BGSU led from wire to wire, bursting out to a 15-2 lead and holding a doubledigit advantage for the game's final 30 minutes. The Falcons led by as many as 22 points in the second half before a late BU rally cut the final margin to 12. Six players scored between seven and 12 points for the Falcons. Sophomore Rachel Konieczki led the balanced attack with 12 points, while senior Deborah Hoekstra and soph Abby Siefker each had 11. Konieczki also had a career-high four assists in the win, while Siefker had six rebounds and two blocked shots. Siefker made her first five shots from the field, finishing the day 5-for-6. Junior Miriam Justinger had eight points, a BG-leading eight rebounds and five assists on Sunday, tying her career high in the latter category. Freshman Haley Puk and redshirt freshman Kennedy Kirkpatrick each scored seven points against the Braves, with Puk adding a career-high seven rebounds. Konieczki played 36 minutes and Puk 34. The Brown and Orange scored 11-straight points to assume command of the game early. That run was capped by Konieczki driving coast to coast for a layup and a 15-2 advantage. Hoekstra completed her own personal 8-0 run with a three-pointer that gave the Falcons a 26-9 lead. Moments later, Puk grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds, resulting in a putback and a pair of free throws for a lead. Puk's right-wing triple made it a lead, and BG had a lead at the intermission. The Falcons shot 51.9 percent from the field in the opening half. BG's 14-of- 27 effort included a 5-of-12 performance (41.7%) from three-point land, and the visitors had a 20-9 rebounding advantage in the opening 20 minutes of play. Kirkpatrick's corner three with 13:25 remaining found nothing but net, giving BG a lead. The lead was still over 20 points before the hosts made a late run, mostly at the free-throw line. The Falcons shot 45.8% from the field on the day, shooting better than 50 percent in the game's first 27 minutes before going 1-of-9 to end the contest. The BG defense held BU to just a 30.2% success rate, including only a 6-of-29 performance (20.7%) in the second half. ABOUT THE FALCONS The Falcons enter the Hampton game with a 7-2 record, and BGSU has won four-straight games. After opening the season with a loss to Bucknell, BGSU bounced back with a convincing victory over Iona, then went on the road and picked up a triumph over Milwaukee. The Brown and Orange extended the win streak to three games with a win over UC Irvine, before suffering a narrow loss, 51-48, to Loyola Marymount. The latter two games came at the DoubleTree LA Westside Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by LMU. The Falcons returned home and posted a win over Cincinnati, the team's lone home game in a month-and-a-half span, before returning to the road and picking up a decision against Saint Francis (Pa.). Then, BG went to Illinois and captured a pair of games, with a win over Illinois State on Dec. 19 and a victory at Bradley two days later. Three Falcons have started all nine games this season to date. That trio includes junior Miriam Justinger and sophomores Rachel Konieczki and Abby Siefker. Redshirt junior Erica Donovan has made eight starts, while senior Jasmine Matthews has started six games and senior Deborah Hoekstra three. Freshman Haley Puk made her first collegiate start in the win at Bradley. Donovan leads the Falcons in scoring, with 15.3 points per game, while Hoekstra is averaging 10.6 ppg. Justinger and Konieczki have scored 9.4 and 8.0 ppg, respectively, with Siefker averaging 6.0 points and freshman Rachel Myers 5.1. Donovan leads the Falcons in rebounding as well as scoring, with 9.1 boards per game. Siefker and Justinger have 6.6 and 5.7 rpg, respectively, while Matthews has pulled down 3.5 caroms per contest. Justinger has 2.7 assists per game to pace the Falcons in that category, and she is just behind Donovan in steals. Donovan has 1.4 spg and Justinger 1.3. Matthews 4 Game 10 Falcons vs. Hampton December 29, 2014

5 is second on the Falcons with 1.7 apg, with Donovan handing out 1.5 apg and Hoekstra 1.3. Siefker has a team-leading 1.0 blocked shots per contest. BGSU is shooting 37.9 percent from the field, 29.4% from three-point range and 74.9% from the free-throw line through nine games. The Falcons' opponents have shot 36.1% from the floor, 26.6% from the arc and 67.9% from the stripe. The Falcons have averaged 6.1 three-pointers made through the first nine contests. Hoekstra has made 16 triples to lead the way, while Myers has hit nine triples, Koniezcki eight, Justinger seven and Donovan six. Hoekstra, Justinger, Konieczki, Siefker, Myers and Puk each have seen action in all nine games, while Donovan and redshirt freshman Kennedy Kirkpatrick have played in eight apiece. True freshmen Lauren Webb and Sarah Baer have played in seven and five games, respectively, and Matthews has seen action in six. Donovan, Matthews, Web and redshirt freshman Leah Bolton all sat out the Bradley game due to various injuries, although Matthews was in uniform for the contest. Bolton played in the Falcons' exhibition game vs. Davis and Elkins, but has yet to see action during the regular season. The Falcons returned six letterwinners, including two starters, from a team that won 30 overall games and captured a MAC regular-season title with a 17-1 league ledger. BGSU won the East Division title, and the Falcons had the best overall record in MAC play for the eighth time in the last 10 seasons. The division title was the program's ninth in that 10-year span. Last year's edition of the Brown and Orange advanced to national postseason play for the 10th consecutive March, winning three games in the WNIT before falling in the quarterfinal round to eventual tourney champion Rutgers. BGSU won more than 20 games for the 11th consecutive year. In addition to the six returnees, head coach Jennifer Roos and her staff assistant coaches Jesse Fleming, Jacey Brooks and Sahar Nusseibeh and director of operations Monique Rosati also have six players with freshman status on the roster. That 12-player roster includes two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores, two redshirt freshmen and the four true frosh. Donovan is the top returning scorer and rebounder. She averaged 10.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game a year ago, ranking third on the team in both categories. Donovan played in all 35 games, starting 34, last season. The Falcons' other returning starter is Justinger, who made 27 starts last year and averaged 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per outing. Justinger also averaged 2.4 assists per contest last winter, good for second on the Falcons and tops among returnees. Hoekstra and Matthews scored 6.9 and 6.4 ppg, respectively, last year. Both players saw action off the bench. Hoekstra, one of the league's top sixth players, came off the bench in all 35 games, while Matthews made nine starts. Matthews made 45 three-point field goals last season, while Hoekstra hit 41 longrange shots and made 36.3% of her attempts from beyond the arc. Donovan and Justinger made 36 and 28 treys, respectively. FOLLOW THE FALCONS... THE HAMPTON LADY PIRATES Hampton has an overall record of 3-8, and the Lady Pirates are looking to snap a three-game losing streak. HU opened the season with five-straight losses, but bounced back for three consecutive wins, including two on the road and one in the MEAC opener. The last three setbacks have come against the number-one team in the nation, South Carolina, as well as on the road to James Madison and DePaul. Sophomore Malia Tate-DeFreitas leads the team in scoring, with 19.1 points per game, and also has 4.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest along with a teamleading 21 three-point field goals made. Senior guard Kenia Cole and junior guard Ryan Jordan have 8.7 and 7.8 ppg, respectively. Cole leads the club with 4.1 apg. Last year, head coach David Six and the Lady Pirates went 28-5 overall and a perfect 16-0 in the MEAC. HU has won the MEAC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of his first five seasons at the helm. Six welcomed back eight letterwinners, including three starters, from the club. THE AUBURN TIGERS Auburn is off to an 8-3 start to the season, and the Tigers, like the Falcons, have put together a three- and a four-game winning streak this year. Most recently, AU split a pair of games at a tournament hosted by St. John's, losing to the home team before downing SMU. Auburn is 7-0 at home, 0-3 on the road and 1-0 at neutral sites this season. Junior F/C Tra'Cee Tanner has a team-leading 13.3 points per game, and is shooting 61.0 percent from the field. Sophomore guard Brandy Montgomery is also scoring in double digits, with 10.6 ppg, and she has hit a team-leading 17 threepointers. A year ago, head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy's team went overall and 7-9 in the Southeastern Conference, advancing to the third round of the WNIT. Williams-Flournoy returned seven letterwinners, including four starters, from that team. THE FIU PANTHERS FIU has an overall record of 2-7 on the year after an home win over Wofford on Dec. 21. That win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Panthers. FIU is 1-4 at home this season, heading into Monday's game vs. Auburn, and the Panthers are 0-2 on the road and 1-1 at neutral sites. Four players are scoring in double digits, led by sophomore forward Kiandre'a Pound with 16.6 points per game and junior guard Taylor Shade at 15.9 ppg. Senior F/C Marita Davydova has 12.1 ppg and a team-best 9.8 rebounds per game, while senior forward Tynia McKinzie has 10.5 ppg in just 19.4 minutes per contest. Pound has 8.9 rpg, while Shade leads the Panthers with 4.0 assists per outing. Last year, head coach Cindy Russo's team went overall and finished with a 6-10 record in Conference USA. Russo, in her 36th year at the FIU helm, welcomed back eight letterwinners and two starters from the team. THE SERIES The Falcons and Hampton are tied, 1-1, in the all-time series between the teams. Each of the previous meetings, just like this year's matchup, has come in late 6 Game 10 Falcons vs. Hampton December 29, 2014

7 December at a tournament at a neutral site. The first-ever matchup between the schools, in 1999, saw the Lady Pirates win by a count in Blacksburg, Va. Almost exactly eight years later, and exactly seven years prior to Monday's meeting, the Falcons won by a nearly identical score, as BG posted a win in Ames, Iowa, on Dec. 29, BGSU trails Auburn, 1-0, in that series. The lone prior meeting saw the host Tigers pick up a win in AU's Kroger Classic in November of BG leads FIU, 1-0, and the lone previous matchup saw the Brown and Orange head to Miami and come away with a victory at FIU Arena in December of Jennifer Roos is 0-0 against the Lady Pirates, the Tigers and the Panthers as a head coach. THE STARTING FIVE Last season, head coach Jennifer Roos used a total of three different starting lineups over the 35-game schedule. The Falcons have had three different lineups through just nine games this year. Junior Miriam Justinger and sophomores Abby Siefker and Rachel Konieczki each have started all nine contests for the Brown and Orange this year to date. CHANNELING HER INNER KEVIN LOVE Sophomore Abby Siefker did a little bit of everything in the Falcons' win at Illinois State, with eight points, a career-high 12 rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot. Siefker also dished out a game-high five assists, by far the highest total of her Falcon career. In fact, Siefker entered the ISU game with totals of one assist this season and eight since coming to BG. She had seven assists during her freshman season, and now has matched that total this year, after handing out another assist in the win over Bradley. FIFTY IS NIFTY, BUT SIXTY IS, UMMMM, BETTER The win at Illinois State was the 60th victory in the head-coaching career of Jennifer Roos. Roos is now since assuming the helm prior to the season. That mark does not include a pair of wins as the Falcons' interim head coach in KIRKPATRICK KONNECTS Redshirt freshman Kennedy Kirkpatrick had a career-high eight points in the victory at Illinois State. She also set career bests in field goals made (three) and three-point field goals made (two) and attempted (four). The successful treys were the first of her career. Kirkpatrick had a total of two points over the first 10 games of her career (five last year, five this season), but now has 22 points over the last three games, including seven against both Saint Francis and Bradley. MAKE MORE THAN THEY TAKE So far this season, BG appears to be continuing a program trend of making more free throws than the opponents attempt. This year to date, BGSU has gotten to the line 171 times, making 1128 shots. Opponents have gone 74-of-109 from the stripe through the first nine games of the season. The latter half-dozen players include a pair of redshirt freshmen as well as four true frosh. 750: FALCONS ARE FIRST TO YET ANOTHER MILESTONE BGSU's win over Cincinnati was the 750th victory in program history. Through the Bradley game, the Falcons are now , good for a winning percentage of 65.6%, over the years. BG is the first Mid-American Conference program to reach the 750-win plateau. FALCONS PICKED TO PLACE SECOND IN MAC EAST IN The Falcons have been picked to finish second in the MAC s East Division in , according to the league s preseason coaches poll. The Falcons were tabbed to finish second in the East last year as well, but wound up winning a divisional title for the ninth time in the last 10 years. BG won the West Division in 2005 and captured the East in each of the next seven years. The Falcons were second in the East two years ago. BGSU has had the league's best overall regular-season mark in eight of the last 10 seasons. Buffalo and Central Michigan were picked to win the East and West divisions, respectively, in , and 10 of the 12 head coaches tabbed CMU to capture the conference tourney crown. The Falcons are 43-1 (97.7%) when reaching the 60-point mark inside the Stroh. BG is 28-1 when scoring at least 70 points, 12-0 when hitting the 80-point mark and 3-0 when reaching the 90-point plateau. THIRTY WINS BGSU finished with a 30-5 record last winter. The Falcons are only the second team in MAC history to reach the 30-victory mark for a season. The first? The BGSU club, which became the first (and still the only) team in MAC women's basketball history to advance to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Championships. 8 Game 10 Falcons vs. Hampton December 29, 2014

9 RECENT SUCCESS The NCAA has compiled its annual lists of the winningest Division-I teams over the last five years, and Bowling Green ranks in the top 15 on both lists. BGSU has won a total of 133 games over the last five seasons (from the start of the season through the end of ), and the Falcons have won more than 79 percent of the time during that span. BGSU's winning percentage is the 11th-highest among all NCAA Division-I programs over the last half decade, while the team's win total is the 13th-best in the nation in that time. LONG-TERM SUCCESS The Falcons have enjoyed success not only recently, but over the long term. BGSU ranks 30th in NCAA Division-I history in winning percentage, and the Falcons were 39th among all such schools in total wins entering the season. Heading into the Hampton game, BGSU has an all-time record of , good for a winning pct. of 65.6%. No other Mid-American Conference program is listed among the top 50 on either chart. FALCONS SIGN THREE Head coach Jennifer Roos announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Maddie Cole (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.), Sydney Lambert (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and Carly Santoro (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) will join the Falcons for the academic year. CHAMPIONS AGAIN The Falcons won the MAC's regular-season title outright last season, achieving that feat for the eighth time in 10 years. BGSU has captured a total of 14 regular-season championships. A few more notes about BG's titles... BGSU won league regular-season titles in three consecutive years from to under head coach Fran Voll, and Jaci Clark's teams captured back-to-back crowns in the and '93-94 campaigns. In 2005, the Falcons had the MAC's best overall record at 13-3, and won the West Division. BGSU then won the East Division outright seven years running ( ), with MAC marks of 16-0, 15-1, 13-3, 15-1, 14-2, 13-3 and 14-2 in those seven seasons. BGSU has won nine division titles in the last 10 years. In each of the Falcons' first five championship seasons (1987, 1988, 1989, 1993 and 1994), the MAC had just one division, and BGSU had the best overall regular-season record outright. In each of the six-straight seasons from 2005 to 2010, Falcon teams not only won a division title, but also had the best overall record among all MAC schools. The '11-12 campaign was the only year that BG won a title without winning the overall regularseason championship, as the Falcons won the East Division with a 13-3 mark, but West Division-winning Toledo was 14-2 in the league. Roos assumed the head-coaching position on April 16, 2012, after 11 years as an assistant coach on the BG staff, the final eight as associate head coach. Last winter, in her second season as a collegiate head coach, Roos was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, and also earned Russell Athletic/WBCA Region 4 C-O-Y honors after leading BGSU to 30 wins, a MAC regularseason title and to three wins in the WNIT. The Falcons went 30-5 overall and 17-1 in the MAC, and the overall win total was the second-highest in school and conference history. In her first season at the helm, Roos guided the Falcons to an overall record of and an 11-5 league ledger. The team advanced to the third round of the WNIT. In each of the last two years, the team that squeaked by the Falcons in national postseason play went on to win the WNIT. Drexel downed BG by three points in 2013, and Rutgers pulled out a five-point win in March of 2014 at the Stroh. The '12-13 Falcons set several program standards at the defensive end of the floor. BGSU allowed just 54.3 points per game, a new school record. That broke the mark of 55.7 ppg allowed, set the previous year. Even prior to her appointment as head coach, Roos was a major reason for the program's incredible run of success. She joined Curt Miller's staff in July of 2001, and helped the Falcons to at least one MAC championship of some kind in each of Miller's last eight seasons. BGSU won eight-straight MAC divisional titles from , earning the league's outright regular-season title in seven of those eight years. BG also captured five MAC Tournament crowns in that time. The 2014 trip to the WNIT marked BGSU's 10th consecutive national postseason appearance, and the Falcons won 20 games for the 11th consecutive season. Both streaks are MAC records by far. Roos was in charge of the Falcon defense during her tenure on Miller's staff, and also served as the team's recruiting coordinator. After three years as an assistant coach with the Falcons, she was elevated to associate head coach in When Miller suffered a mild stroke in January of 2012, Roos assumed interim head-coaching duties and led the Falcons to a 2-0 record, with wins over Central Michigan and Northern Illinois prior to Miller's return to the bench in early February. Since Roos arrived at BGSU, the Falcons have fashioned an overall record of and a MAC mark of Those numbers aren't too shabby, as they represent a success rate of over 74 percent overall and a winning percentage of better than 77% in conference action. Over the last 11-plus years, however, the numbers are even more staggering. The Falcons are (79.9%) overall, (85.4%) in MAC regularseason play and (84.5%) in all games vs. league foes during that time. Roos came to the Falcon program after spending eight years at Davidson College. She became a coach with the Wildcats upon her graduation from the school. Roos, a native of Louisville, Ky., was a member of both the Davidson club team and the varsity squad. The latter season marked the varsity program's first after a six-year absence. Roos was a standout in field hockey during her undergraduate years. She was a four-year letterwinner and a three-time MVP for Davidson. Roos led the 'Cats to a record in her four seasons, and helped the squad to three consecutive Deep South Association championships. Roos served as a captain for both the field hockey and basketball teams as a senior. She also lettered in lacrosse at Davidson. Roos graduated from Davidson in 1993, with a B.A. in history, upon which she began her coaching career at the school. In January of 2006, Roos was inducted into the Davidson Athletics Hall of Fame.
