The Panthers won their season opener at Lantz in a thrilling overtime victory over IUPUI and will try to maintain an undefeated record at home. EIU returns to Charleston looking to bounce back after a tough road loss to the Memphis Tigers. The 1-1 start is the best opening of the season for the Panthers since the season when EIU went 4-0 to begin the season. BROWN TIES CAREER RECORD Erica Brown was the only Panther to score in double digits against Memphis tying her career record of 20 points. Brown s performance against the Tigers gives her a 16 point average over the first two games of the season. Brown also leads the team in rebounds accumulating 13 over the two game span, with nine of those rebounds coming on the defensive side of the court. NEW SEASON NEW FACES This year s freshmen have already made an impact on the court so far this season. Halle Stull has started both games for EIU earning four points, five rebounds, and three assists over the two game span. Brittin Boyer has asserted herself underneath the rim earning 10 points in the game against IUPUI and nine total rebounds during the first two games. Black was hired May 16, 2013 to take over the program following a long career as an assistant coach, most recently at Ohio State. While with the Buckeyes program Black helped coach the team to seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances including six Big Ten Conference Championships. Black has been part of 34 winning basketball seasons both as a player and a coach. She began her playing career at Saint Joseph s University helping the Hawks make four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. After graduation in 1988, she played professionally overseas in Tasmania ( ). She played in the WNBA from earning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. Nicknamed The Pest Black is the only women s professional player to record a quadruple double with 10 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists and 10 steals in a game. Black s career record is 22-35, in OVC games. LAST TIME OUT The Panthers lost a very physical matchup against the Memphis Tigers Sunday afterrnon EIU came out of the gates aggressively against Memphis taking charge in the first quarter leading by as much as seven before the Tigers rallied back to tie the game at 19 a piece at the end of the first period. Memphis turned up the defensive pressure in the second period regaining the lead and not surrendering it the rest of the game. Memphis would end up winning with 34 points coming off turnovers. SCOUTING LOYOLA-CHICAGO The Ramblers enter Lantz Arena following an loss to Georgia tech Friday [Nov. 13] evening. The Ramblers were down by as much as 22 points before cutting the deficit to six with 1:42 left to play. Lennox has racked up 22 points and 10 assists so far this season. Erica Brown was nearly perfect shooting at Memphis not missing a shot until the 8:57 mark in the third period already acumulating 14 points by that point. She finished the game going 9-12 shooting.750 from the field. Karina Chandra made her debut as a Panther against Memphis earning four points and one rebound during her first seven minutes on the court for EIU. The freshman Panthers were crucial for EIU at memphis as four newcomers scored their first career points against the Tigers. Kayla Steward finished with five points, Halle Stull with four, and Carmen Tellez with three. The Panthers hold a slight edge in defensive rebounds with 50 so far this season as compared to opponents 49. Erica Brown leads EIU with 13 rebounds, nine of which are defensive. Alece Shumpert has pulled in six defensive rebounds during the first two games of the season. Erica Brown is the only Panther to score in double digits in back-to-back games to open the season. Brown earned 12 points in the season opener against IUPUI before tying her career record of 20 points at Memphis. Brown leads the team averaging 16 points throughout the first two games of the season. The Panthers have shown a lot of grit throughout the first two games to rally back and make games close. Against IUPUI the Panthers trailed by 12 at one point to rally back and take the lead late in the fourth quarter eventually winning the game in overtime. EIU showed the same tenacity at Memphis as they fought to cut a 13 point deficit down to five midway through the third quarter before the Tigers eventually won the match. Shakita Cox and Grace Lennox have both snagged four steals in the first two games of the season. Cox earned three steals against Memphis. The charity stripe has been very beneficial for the Panthers as EIU has.769 from the line making shots. EIU averages 15 points from the free throw line so far this season.

Jennifer Nehls, Danielle Berry, and Allison Van Dyke are all set to join EIU during the season as each signed their national letter of intent. Jennifer Nehls is currently a senior at Denmark High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The 5 11 forward is a multi sport athlete having played two years on her high school track team and soccer team along with three years on the women s volleyball team earning Second Team All-Area honors her sophomore and junior years. Nehls has played varsity basketball for her high school for three years and has been named First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Area in 2013 and Danielle Berry will attend EIU following her senior year at Francis Howell High School in Foristell, Missouri. Berry is a 5 6 guard who was named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-District in both 2013 and 2014 while also being awarded First Team All-Conference honors in cross country her sophomore year. The Panthers add a third guard in 5 10 Allison Van Dyke. Van Dyke will travel to EIU from Westfield, Indiana after she graduates from Westfield High School. A four year letter winner in basketball she averaged 14 points a game Van Dyke was an IBCA Honorable Mention Underclass All-Star in 2015.
