HEAD COACH DOUG WOJCIK DOUG WOJCIK Head Coach U.S. Naval Academy 87 Second Season Doug Wojcik (pronounced WO-jick) was named the 22nd all-time head men s basketball coach at the College of Charleston on April 4, Wojcik, 49, joins a list of former coaching greats at The College including CofC Athletics Hall of Famers in Alfred von Kolnitz ( ), Ernest Wehman (two tenures from , ), Willard Silcox, Sr. (three tenures from , , ), Fred Daniels ( ), Alan LeForce ( ), the program s all-time winningest coach John Kresse ( ) and Bobby Cremins ( ). In his first season with the Cougars, the squad compiled a overall record, a 14-4 regular-season mark in Southern Conference play en route to an appearance in the conference championship game. They also earned a postseason berth to the College Basketball Invitational, defeated 2013 NIT champion and No. 21-ranked Baylor (63-59) on the road and recorded an impressive 11-2 mark away from TD Arena which tied for the second-most road wins in Division I in He previously spent the last seven seasons at the University of Tulsa where he became the all-time winningest head coach in program history with 140 career wins, surpassing legendary coaches Clarence Iba (137) and Nolan Richardson (119). He held a career winning percentage of 60 percent and an average of 20 wins per season with the Golden Hurricane. In seven years with the Golden Hurricane, Wojcik took a nine-win squad before his arrival and posted four consecutive 20-win seasons including back-to-back 25+ win campaigns, advanced to the championship game of the Conference USA Tournament in 2008 and 2009, won the inaugural College Basketball Invitational title in 2008 in his third season and appeared in the NIT twice in 2009 and All of this success came as the program transitioned from its days in the Western Athletic Conference to the more competitive Conference USA. One of the team s biggest highlights of the season was defeating Memphis on its home court to break a 12-game losing streak to the Tigers in the all-time series and capture its first road win since The Golden Hurricane were the only C-USA squad to beat Memphis at home (one of their four league home losses since ) and one of only two schools that season to do so next to Georgetown. During his tenure, Tulsa was one of C-USA s top defensive teams and ranked among the top defenses in the country. Wojcik developed two future NBA players in Ben Uzoh and Jerome Jordan as well as Conference USA leading scorer Justin Hurtt. He also recruited and developed three of the top nine all-time leading scorers in Tulsa history in Uzoh (No. 3), Hurtt (No. 7), and Jerome Jordan (No. 9). In addition to his team s success on the court, all 17 of Wojcik s senior student-athletes earned their degrees at Tulsa, accomplishing a sevenyear graduation rate of 100 percent. Wojcik spent 15 years as an assistant coach at the U.S. Naval Academy along with stops at Notre Dame, North Carolina and Michigan State. He spent two seasons with Michigan State under Izzo before his appointment at Tulsa. Wojcik was instrumental in their run to the 2005 NCAA Final Four, defeating Old Dominion, Vermont, Duke and Kentucky before losing to eventual national champion North Carolina in the semifinals. MSU finished the season with a 26-7 record and a 13-3 Big Ten Conference mark. He was promoted to associate head coach prior to the season, joining an impressive list of recent associate head coaches at Michigan State, including current collegiate head coaches Tom Crean (Indiana) and 6

HEAD COACH DOUG WOJCIK Brian Gregory (Georgia Tech). In the spring of 2003, Wojcik served as a floor coach under Izzo for the USA Basketball Under-20 tryout period. Before his stint at Michigan State, Wojcik spent three years as an assistant coach at North Carolina from In his first season, North Carolina earned a No. 1 national ranking late in the regular season, posted a 26-7 overall mark, a 13-3 league record and won a share of the ACC regular-season championship title. Wojcik s recruiting expertise and ability was clearly evident while at UNC. He helped bring in recruiting classes ranked second in the nation in both 2001 and These classes included one McDonald s All-American in 2001 (Jawad Williams) and three in 2002 (Raymond Felton, Rashad McCants and Sean May). Wojcik also served as head coach of the junior varsity program at North Carolina for three years. While in Chapel Hill, Wojcik was named a Head Coach in the Waiting by Athlon Sports in 2001 and by ESPN s Jay Bilas in He was also named as an Assistant Coach on the Rise by ESPN.com s Andy Katz. Prior to North Carolina, Wojcik spent one season on the coaching staff at Notre Dame, helping the Fighting Irish post a record and earn a berth in the 2000 NIT championship game. In his one season at Notre Dame, he recruited one McDonald s All- American (Chris Thomas) and coached Tulsa native Ryan Humphrey, who went on to the NBA. Wojcik began his coaching career in as an assistant coach at Navy, where he coached his alma mater for nine seasons and helped the Midshipmen reach the NCAA Tournament three times in 1994, 1997 and Wojcik was still on active duty during the first two seasons, then became a full-time assistant coach under new head coach Don DeVoe in During his collegiate playing career from , Wojcik led the Midshipmen to the NCAA Tournament three-straight seasons including a 1986 East Regional Final appearance. He started every game at point guard for three seasons, helping Navy post a 26-6 record as a sophomore, followed by marks of 30-5 and 26-6 in his final two seasons. Overall, Navy was in his three years as a starter. In 1986, teammate David Robinson turned over his Colonial Athletic Association MVP Award to Wojcik, citing his unselfish play and leadership abilities. During his career, Wojcik established school records for most assists in a single game (14), season (251) and career (714). Overall, Wojcik was a part, either as a player or coach, in every conference title won by Navy and six of the school s 11 NCAA Tournament bids. A 1987 graduate with a bachelor s degree in physical science, Wojcik was commissioned as a Naval officer and attended Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, R.I. He was assigned to the USS W.S. Sims out of Mayport, Fla., where he served as First Lieutenant and Engineering Officer for two years prior to beginning his coaching career. Originally from Wheeling, W. With his Naval Academy background, I liked the fact he had the experience of recruiting kids from across the country. He has recruited the elite student at Notre Dame and Navy and the elite athlete at North Carolina and Michigan State. He has an eye for talent and possesses great knowledge of the game. While an assistant, we went to the Final Four and played against kids he recruited and signed at North Carolina in the national semifinals in Doug has always been disciplined, had academic success at every school he s been at and wanted to do things the right way, which is not always the norm. All of these characteristics will be beneficial to the College of Charleston. Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo The College of Charleston made an excellent hire in Doug Wojcik. He will bring tremendous basketball knowledge and a passion for teaching to an established program. Doug s long-standing commitment to student-athletes - both on and off the court - is impressive. Additionally, Doug, his wife, Lael, and his family will be first-class representatives of such a prestigious school. Duke University & USA National Team Coach Mike Krzyzewski I coached against Doug while he was at Tulsa and I can tell you that his teams were always prepared on both ends of the floor. He s a terrific defensive coach and runs great schemes on offense. On top of being an outstanding coach, he s a wonderful family man and I consider him a great friend. Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari Doug has really stepped into a marvelous situation. The College of Charleston is a wonderful job in a great city and Doug will be a wonderful coach there as well. He has a tremendous background and work ethic and it will be difficult to step into the shoes filled by John Kresse and Bobby Cremins, but Doug will be able to do that and he will continue the excitement for College of Charleston basketball. North Carolina Head Coach Roy Williams I know this is an exciting time for Doug as well as the College of Charleston basketball program. This is a great hire for the future of Cougar basketball. Doug has proven himself as a head coach in both the areas of program building and recruiting. His work ethic and integrity are at the highest level of our profession. There couldn t be a better fit for the College of Charleston basketball than Doug carrying on the tradition that Coach Kresse and Coach Cremins have established. Georgia Tech Head Coach Brian Gregory, who was a college teammate of Coach Wojcik s at the U.S. Naval Academy Doug Wojcik is an outstanding basketball man, and an excellent coach. I ve known Doug since we played against each other in college, and he s as fine a person and a competitor as I have been around. College of Charleston got a heck of a coach and person in Doug Wojcik. ESPN College Basketball Analyst Jay Bilas Doug Wojcik is an outstanding hire for the College of Charleston. He has an impeccable resume, winning coaching experience, is a great family man and will be a major asset to the Charleston community. ESPN College Basketball Analyst Fran Fraschilla 8

COACHING STAFF AMIR ABDUR-RAHIM Associate Head Coach Southeastern Louisiana 04 Second Season Amir Abdur-Rahim (pronounced UH-mere ab-durr-ra-heem) was promoted to associate head coach at the College of Charleston on June 26, 2013, and is in his second season with the Cougars. Abdur-Rahim, 32, serves as CofC s recruiting coordinator with strong regional ties in the Georgia and Atlanta areas and the Carolinas. He came to CofC after spending the season as director of player development under head coach Brian Gregory at Georgia Tech. Amir has been everything that I thought he would be, Wojcik said. He was highly-recommended a year ago, I knew he would be a great fit. After a year s time, Amir has been an active recruiter and has an unbelievable feel for our players. He has everything you want and are looking for in a head coach. He is knowledgeable, can teach and is great with parents and players. I am happy to promote him to the title of associate head coach. There is no question in my mind that Amir will run his own program in the near future. I think so much of him and his wife, Arianne. Prior to Georgia Tech, Abdur-Rahim spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Murray State, helping the Racers post a record, win two Ohio Valley Conference championship titles and participate in the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and Postseason NIT in I am really excited to join and contribute to the program, Abdur-Rahim said. Knowing the tradition and all of the great players who have come through the College of Charleston over the years such as Anthony Johnson and current Los Angeles Lakers guard Andrew Goudelock - it is a place where great players have played and teams have continually won under Coach (John) Kresse and Coach (Bobby) Cremins. I am grateful for the opportunity to work for Coach Wojcik and to continue that winning tradition at The College. I have seen the great things he and his staff accomplished at Tulsa and I m excited to work for and learn from him. He is one of the best in the business with his extensive coaching background, pedigree and knowledge of the game. Abdur-Rahim spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Murray State, before briefly taking a position at his alma mater, Wheeler High School, in Marietta, Ga. As he began the school year there in 2008, he received a call from Kennedy, who recruited him to Southeastern Louisiana University in 2001, to come back to MSU and he accepted. As a player, Abdur-Rahim enjoyed an outstanding four-year career at SLU from and was a large part in helping build the Lions program. He was a three-time All-Southland Conference selection and led the team in scoring three-straight seasons and finished as the school s seventh all-time scorer with 1,282 points. More importantly, Abdur-Rahim helped turn a program that had a 7-20 record to one that went 20-9 and won a regular-season conference title in only three years. A native of Atlanta, he earned his bachelor s degree in general business from Southeastern Louisiana in 2004 and his master s degree in organizational communication from Murray State in Abdur-Rahim is one of 13 children in his family and is the younger brother of former NBA All-Star and current assistant general manager of the Sacramento Kings, Shareef Abdur-Rahim. He is happily married to the former Arianne Buchanan. WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT COACH ABDUR-RAHIM Amir is an outstanding coach who was a big part of our success at Murray State. He is really good on the floor in practice and relates well with the players. He has become a good recruiter and has strong ties in the Atlanta area. He is a great hire for Coach Wojcik and the College of Charleston. - Texas A&M Head Coach Billy Kennedy, who Abdur-Rahim coached under at Murray State from and played for at Southeastern Louisiana from In just a short year, Amir made a huge impact on our Georgia Tech program. He has all the things you want in a high-level assistant. Although I hate to lose him, I feel great about who he is going to work for. Amir will learn well from a great coach with the highest-character values in the profession. The College of Charleston has a great pair in Doug and Amir. - Georgia Tech Head Coach Brian Gregory, who was a college teammate of Coach Wojcik s at the U.S. Naval Academy 9

COACHING STAFF RYAN FREEBERG Assistant Coach Minnesota State, Mankato 00 Second Season Ryan Freeberg is in his second season as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston. Freeberg, 37, spent the last four years as an assistant coach under head coach Steve Eck at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College - one of the top junior colleges in the country. Ryan has been in the business a long time and has worked hard to get to where he is now, Wojcik said. He has coached at the Division II and junior college levels and I m glad to be the head coach who gives him the opportunity to move up the coaching ladder. Ryan has experience in recruiting nationally and has coached talented players who have been successful at each of his stops including a traditionally-successful junior college program at Hutchinson. He is humble and loyal and a positive role model for young players with his enthusiasm, passion and drive for the game. From , the Blue Dragons compiled an overall record of with four-straight 20-win seasons and were ranked No. 1 in the nation for the first time in 19 years during the campaign. The program had several players go on to play at NCAA Division I schools such as NJCAA First Team All-American Darius Johnson-Odom, who starred at Marquette and is a 2012 NBA Draft prospect, and NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention guard Joe Mitchell, who transferred to Wichita State. Noted as one of the rising stars in the business by CBSSports.com Senior Basketball writer Jeff Goodman in 2010, Freeberg previously served as a head coach at the NCAA Division II level for three seasons at Concordia (Minn.) University and continued to help craft basketball talent at The Patterson School for two seasons in Lenoir, N.C. I am excited to work for a great coach in Coach Wojcik and a wonderful university with a rich tradition, Freeberg said. The College of Charleston has a long history of developing great players and I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to help continue that tradition. During his time as an assistant coach and athletics director at Patterson, the North Carolina prep school posted seasons of 36-2 and Freeberg and head coach Chris Chaney would also send 22 student-athletes to Division I programs such as Tennessee, Rutgers, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Memphis, Arkansas and Georgia. Before Patterson Prep, Freeberg spent five overall seasons at Concordia, the final three seasons as the Golden Bears head coach where he helped transform the program into a conference contender. Before Freeberg took over the reins in June of 2003, Concordia s men s basketball team won just 22 games in the previous three years. In his three seasons as head coach, Concordia won 41 games. In 2005, the Golden Bears went and 7-7 in conference play which marked the second-most wins in the program s Division II history. Concordia continued to prosper in 2006, making its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. The Bears would also finish first in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in scoring defense (65.3 ppg). Freeberg coached five all-conference players, the No. 2 and 7 career-scoring leaders, 15 academic all-conference players and his teams never had below a 3.0 gradepoint average. After a two-year playing career at Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) College under head coach Art Westphal, where he was a point guard on a squad which won a conference championship, Freeberg started his coaching career as an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at St. Clair High School in St. Clair, Minn. In the summer of 1997, he went back to Bethany Lutheran to serve as an assistant coach. He spent four seasons there, helping the Vikings stay atop the Minnesota Community College Athletic Conference. The program also won one Southern Division title and made one NJCAA Region XIII appearance. Originally from Mankato, Minn., Freeberg earned his bachelor s degree in physical education from Minnesota State, Mankato in 2000 and his master s degree in organizational management from Concordia in He is married to the former Juli Westphal and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Lydia (11) and Ella (9). 10

COACHING STAFF JOE WALLACE Assistant Coach West Liberty 05 First Season Joe Wallace was promoted to assistant coach on June 26, 2013, and is in his second season with the College of Charleston men s basketball program. Wallace previously served as director of basketball operations during the season and spent the last six years prior at the University of Tulsa under CofC Head Coach Doug Wojcik. There, he served three seasons as director of basketball operations for the Golden Hurricane coordinating all video operations, scouting and team travel as well as monitoring academic progress and facility improvement. He was promoted from graduate manager in 2009, where he served as director of player development working with current NBA players Ben Uzoh and Jerome Jordan. During his time at Tulsa, the team won the inaugural CBI Championship title in 2008 and made two NIT appearances in 2009 and Joe is well-deserving of this opportunity, Wojcik said. He has done all of the little jobs that no one wants to do for a very long time. Joe was a major part of making our transition from Tulsa to Charleston smooth. He has been a rock for me. Joe is dependable and has a strong work ethic. CofC is a great situation for me to be able to move him up from the director of operations role to fulltime assistant coach. Joe has the skill set to be a great recruiter and on-floor coach. I know our players really like him and player relationships are very important. Joe continues to add consistency to our coaching staff as we move into our second year. He and his wife, Cory, have been a big asset to our basketball family, community and program for the last seven years. Prior to Tulsa, he was an assistant basketball coach for four seasons at Bishop Donahue (W.Va.) High School. During his tenure at Bishop Donahue, Wallace also served as the junior varsity head coach. Originally from Wheeling, W.Va., Wallace earned his bachelor s degree in social science education from West Liberty (W.Va.) University in 2005, where he was a two-year football letterwinner on special teams. He also played one season of basketball at Waynesburg (Pa.) College. Sherry comes to CofC from Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, Okla., where he served as freshman boys basketball head coach during the season. He previously spent three years at the University of Tulsa under CofC Head Coach Doug Wojcik as the program s assistant director of operations and graduate manager helping the coaching staff with team travel, video, scouting reports and academic progress of student-athletes. Going into year two, Phil was the best guy for this job in the sense of familiarity and knowing what we do, Wojcik said. His hire allows Joe Wallace an easier transition into the assistant coach and recruiting roles, due to their existing relationship as my administrative assistants at Tulsa. Phil will be a great asset to us and knows how we operate as a program. With our video coordinator Richarde McCray returning, we have great chemistry within our staff as we work together in moving the program forward and into the CAA. We are very excited to have Phil and his wife, Maureen, and their twin boys, rejoin us in Charleston. Prior to Tulsa, Sherry served as an assistant men s basketball coach for two years under head coach Brian Lane at NCAA Division III Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. There, he assisted with player and skill development and evaluated and recruited high school prospects. As a team, the Pioneers reached the 2009 NCAA Division III Tournament, compiled a 21-6 overall record and went 13-3 in the Heartland Conference. Originally from Tulsa, Sherry earned his bachelor s degree in English with minors in sport management and history from Gonzaga University in He also completed his master s degree coursework in coaching and sport leadership from the University of Kentucky in Sherry is married to the former Maureen Anne Coughlin and the couple are parents to 15-month-old twin boys, Nolan and Declan. CofC Head Coach Doug Wojcik HIGH SCHOOL Graduated in 2013 from Norcross High School in Norcross, Ga One of the Top 10 power forwards in the state of Georgia Spent the first three years of high school at The McCallie School, a prestigious prep school located in Chattanooga, Tenn., before transferring back home to Norcross for his senior season as the Blue Devils won the State 6A Championship Rated as a threestar recruit by ESPN Recruiting Nation Team Captain Tabbed Gwinnett County All-Star Compiled 1,000 career points, 750 career rebounds and 750 career blocks Previously averaged 15 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three assists per game as a junior under head coach Dan Wadley at The McCallie School Two-Time All-State selection Selected to the Times Free Press Second Team as a freshman Named Times Free Press Player of the Week in December of 2011 Earned all-tournament and Most Valuable Player honors at the Times Free Press Best of Preps tournament Also played AAU Basketball for the Atlanta Celtics, who have produced noteworthy current NBA players in Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudemire as well as CofC all-time leading scorer Andrew Goudelock Earned TEPS Leadership Honors at The McCallie School Named to the All-Academic Team during his senior year. PERSONAL Terrance O Donohue Son of Constance Harper Born on March 24, 1994 in Atlanta, Ga...His career ambition is to work in sports broadcasting His athletic goals are to work hard and help the Cougars win championships Also recruited by Murray State, UNC Charlotte, Jacksonville, Penn and Iona Looking to major in communication at College of Charleston. #5 GLEN PIERRE, JR. Freshman F/C Orlando, Fla. (Oldsmar Christian School) Glen is long and thin and has probably put on 20 pounds since he got here. He is our biggest development guy. If Glen continues to improve every day in practice and can push Adjehi (Baru) and David (Wishon), I see a bright upside for him. Glen adjusting to the college level is his biggest development and competing day-in and day-out. But skill wise, length wise, timing wise, athleticism wise he has all the staples and ingredients to be a really good player down the road. CofC Head Coach Doug Wojcik HIGH SCHOOL Graduated in 2013 from Oldsmar Christian School near Tampa, Fla Spent his first three years of high school at East River High School in Orlando, before transferring to Oldsmar Christian School under head coach Jordan Fair for his senior season Ranked among the Top 100 players in the state of Florida entering the school year by FloridaHoops.com Averaged eight points, six rebounds and three blocks per game as a senior Played in the 2013 Florida Association of Basketball Coaches All- Star Game Also played AAU Basketball for Q6 All-Stars under head coach Reggie Tucker. PERSONAL Glen Pierre, Jr Son of Glen and Demae Pierre, Sr Born on May 10, 1995 in Orlando, Fla Has three siblings, brothers Curtis Pierre (41) and Aaron Campbell (24), and sister, Rashida Pierre-Graham (30) His career ambition is to play professional basketball His athletic goals are to help the Cougars win games and championships Chose CofC over Charlotte, James Madison, Saint Louis and Marshall Undecided major at College of Charleston. 31
