The Panthers are looking to snap a five game losing streak heading into Ohio Valley Conference play which opens at home on January 1 against Tennessee Tech. EIU dropped both games at the Arizona State Tournament falling to 3-9 on the season. Saint Louis comes into the game with a 5-6 record after splitting its two games at the Montana Tournament. SLU lost to OVC member Austin Peay in the opening round and beat Utah Valley to snap a three game losing skid of their own. THOMAS NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT Arnisha Thomas was named to the Arizona State All-Tournament team after scoring in double figures in both contests. Thomas averaged 18.5 points per game while shooting 64 percent from the field. She had a career high 23 points against Lehigh on Sunday. Thomas was 2-of-3 from 3-point range and pulled down 11 rebounds. OROSZOVA CLOSES ON 1,000 Sabina Oroszova needs 12 points to become the 22nd player in school history to join the 1,000 point club for their career. Oroszova had a season high 24 points on Sunday against Lehigh. The senior forward needs 15 rebounds to get to 800 for her career. Black was hired May 16, 2013 to take over the program following a long career as an assistant coach, most recently at Ohio State. While with the Buckeyes program Black helped coach the team to seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances including six Big Ten Conference Championships. Black has been part of 34 winning basketball seasons both as a player and a coach. She began her playing career at Saint Joseph s University helping the Hawks make four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. After graduation in 1988, she played professionally overseas in Tasmania ( ). She played in the WNBA from earning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. Nicknamed The Pest Black is the only women s professional player to record a quadruple double with 10 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists and 10 steals in a game. Black s career record is 15-25, 7-9 in OVC games. LAST TIME OUT Eastern Illinois lost both of its games at the Arizona State Tournament over the weekend. The Panthers were overpowered from the start against Northwestern falling Arnisha Thomas had 14 points in the loss. On Sunday EIU turned the ball over in the final 12 seconds as they lost to Lehigh The Panthers shot 55 percent in the loss. SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS Lisa Stone is in her third season as the head coach at Saint Louis. The Billikens come into the game with a 5-6 record after going 1-1 at the Montana Tournament last weekend. Sadie Stipanovich is the team s leading scorer at 13.9 points per game with six other players averaging between six and ten points. Lennox passed out eight assists with only one turnover in 38 minutes of action. The freshman scored five points an pulled down two rebounds. She is 9th in the OVC in assists per game at 3.1. EIU shot over 50 percent from the field in Sunday s game against Lehigh and for the second time this year EIU was on the losing end of that contest. EIU shot 54.9 percent against Lehigh making 28-of-51 shots from the floor. The other game in which EIU shot over 50 percent from the floor was a loss to Florida State. EIU was 22-of-40 in that game for a season best 55 percent. Erica Brown cleaned up on the defensive glass on Sunday against Lehigh matching her career high with nine rebounds, all defensive. Brown ranks in the top 20 in the OVC in rebounds per game. In the game against Lehigh she added six points, three assists and one blocked shot. Phylicia Johnson scored in her 10th consecutive game on Sunday against Lehigh but the junior college transfer had her streak of consecutive games with a 3-pointer end at nine. Johnson leads the Panthers with 14 made 3-pointers including two games with three 3-pointers (Omaha & Western Illinois). Freshman Bh rea Griffin has made her last four 3-point attempts after draining one each against Northwestern and Lehigh at the Arizona State Tournament. Griffin is shooting 54.5 percent from beyond the arc this season. In a recent four game run she was also solid at the guard position with 18 assists, 4 turnovers. EIU head coach Debbie Black cleared her bench against Northwestern on Saturday finishing the game with five true freshmen on the floor. In the game Kandace Tate scored her first points since the North Texas game on Nov. 23. Jalisha Smith scored and pulled down two rebounds. Morgan Martin did all of her scoring at the free throw line in Arizona as the freshman was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. She had four points against Northwestern to go with five rebounds in 18 minutes of action. Over the past four games Martin has averaged just over 15 minutes per game with 9 points and 13 rebounds.

7 EASTERN ILLINOIS WOMEN S BASKETBALL SIGNING CLASS CHARLESTON, Ill. Eastern Illinois women s basketball head coach Debbie Black has signed two impact players for the program as the Panthers announced their 2015 recruiting class during the NCAA s fall signing period. Set to join EIU next season are Brittin Boyer and Kayla Steward. Boyer is a 5 11 forward that plays locally at Sullivan High School for coach Sheri McCain. She was named the Area Player of the Year as a junior by the Journal-Gazette/Times-Courier. Last season she led her team to an IHSA Class 2A Regional appearance with a 21-4 record. She averaged 16.4 points per game with 10 rebounds per game earning IBCA 4th Team All-State honors. Boyer was a first team All-Okaw Valley selection. Brittin is a versatile player that we think can have a nice career here at Eastern Illinois, said Black who is entering her second season at EIU. She is becoming a stronger player and working to develop both her perimeter and post game. I think it will be nice for our program to have a player with local ties so people in the community can come watch a player they have seen at the high school level. Steward is a 5 8 guard that plays for coach Paul Perrone at Boylan Catholic High School in Rockford. She flourished as a junior scoring more than 500 points for the season as the team reached the IHSA Class 4A Super Sectionals. She was key in the team winning 23 straight games during the season which included a 30-point night in a win over Hononegah High School. She was a first team All-Northern Illinois Conference selection and special mention All-State. During her summer AAU season she was selected to the USJN Pool All-Star team. Kayla is a player that is still developing and growing her game. Last season she became a true scoring threat scoring more than 500 points in what was her first true varsity playing experience, said Black.
