Two for the Show The Presbyterian College women s soccer team wraps up the 2011 campaign with a pair of home matches against Liberty and High Point this weekend. The Blue Hose host Liberty on Thursday night before welcoming High Point on Saturday evening. PC will honor seniors Sarah Beth Anderson, Morgan Fragapane, Jessica Kramer and Lauren Snyder prior to Saturday s match. Scouting the Flames Liberty enters Thursday s match with a overall marker and a record in league action, putting the Flames in sixth place in the Big South. Liberty fell in its last match, a 3-2 home contest against Radford on October 22. Silvia Betancourt leads the squad with four goals and two assists for 10 points and Kelly Henion has also added three goals, two of them game-winners. Goalkeeper Karen Blocker has never left the net for Liberty, compiling a 1.55 goals against average and a.743 save percentage. Scouting the Panthers High Point comes into the week with a overall record and a tally in league matches before facing UNC Asheville on Thursday. The Panthers took their last two matches against VMI and Radford in 1-0 overtime victories and have gone into overtime in four of their last five matches. Kelli Joline leads the team with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Series Histories PC will look for its first win against Liberty, going against the Flames since the two sides first met in Liberty nipped the Blue Hose by a 1-0 margin in Lynchburg, Va., last year. The Blue Hose have a record against High Point, winning two of the first three contests. Sara Simpson scored for PC last year in a 3-1 loss on the road. Last Time Out PC dropped a Saturday match to Gardner-Webb in the team s last match on Saturday, 3-0. Stephanie Allen tallied a shot on goal for the Blue Hose and led the squad in shots, with three. Rebecca Miller also contributed two. Goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson made five saves in the effort, stopping four in the first half.

Both goals came from free kicks in the Coastal half. Two in a Row PC secured its second win of the year and second win in a row with a 1-0 blanking of The Citadel on September 20. Stephanie Allen scored her first career goal on assists from Taylor Patti (a career first) and Gracie Boswell. Sarah Beth Anderson made a season-high eight saves, including six in the first half, to secure the shutout. Big Time in the Big South Goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson earned Defensive Player of the Week honors on Septmeber 27 for her eight-save shutout performance against The Citadel on September 20. The effort also helped her grab PC s all-time saves record. We ve Got Some First Timers Over Here With Kelly Kozera s goal against USC Upstate, the freshman became one of three PC rookies to score her first collegiate goal in Eight different players have scored for PC in 2011, with six scoring their first career goals this season. One to Watch TopDrawerSoccer.com named junior midfielder Alice Blackwell to its Top 20 women s soccer players in the Big South Conference. Blackwell appeared on the list at No. 19 and leads the team in minutes and scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday. Movin on Up Goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson has made her senior season one to remember, carving her name in the program s record books. With eight saves against The Citadel on September 20, Anderson took sole possession of the PC career saves list. Her total, now at 282, tops Emily Campbell s 214 saves, set from 1993 through Anderson has averaged five saves per game throughout the 2011 campaign. She has also compiled 100 saves this season, the most in the Division I era. The Two Captains Seniors Sarah Beth Anderson and Jessica Kramer lead PC as the team s two captains this season. Anderson posted five shutouts in 12 games in 2010 with help from Kramer on the back line. This year, Kramer has started every and has tallied one assist. 3 2010 in Review The Blue Hose enjoyed a standout season in 2010, matching a program-high five wins since joining the Big South Conference and providing several exciting finishes. In a notable defensive feat, all five wins came by shutout. The high point of the campaign came when PC rattled off three straight wins midway through the season. A 1-0 overtime win over Erskine preceded another 1-0 blanking, this time against Francis Marion. The Blue Hose wrapped up the run with a 2-0 victory over VMI, giving the team its first win over a Big South opponent since the 2008 season finale. At the Helm Brian Purcell returns as PC s head coach for the 23rd year. Purcell, the only coach in program history, enters this season with a career record.
