3 2 Welcome to the U12A Provincial Ringette Championships! On behalf of the Airdrie Ringette Association, our Executive and our Provincial Event Committee, it is with great pleasure that we welcome all competitors, coaches, officials, sponsors, parents, friends, and spectators to Airdrie, for this year s U12A Provincial Championship Tournament. We would like to thank the many businesses, who offer their support to the Airdrie Ringette Association as well as all the volunteers, committee and community members, that have helped to make this event a success for the competitors and our community. The Provincial Host Committee would like to acknowledge and thank AltaGas, our major sponsor, for their commitment to this event and to the sport of ringette. 4 3 Coaches Meeting A coaches meeting will be held on Friday, March 17th, at 8:30am at Genesis Place in the AECON Meeting Room #2 (upstairs adjacent to the Shane Homes ice surface). Attendance is Mandatory. During this meeting coaches can pick up their pre-ordered Provincial hoodies and t-shirts. Meeting duration: 45 minutes. Check In Table Please check in at the table located in the lobby area adjacent to the Main Entrance. Dressing rooms will be designated on the electronic scheduling board. Game Schedule A hard copy will be provided at the coaches meeting, within this document and posted on the following websites: Provincial Host Contacts A representative from the tournament committee will be present at the areana at all times. Treasurer: Corine Bushfield corineb@efirehose.net Cell: ARA Rep: Blair Schiffner icescheduler@airdrieringette.com Cell: Minor Officials - Round Robin Games During the round robin games, both teams are required to provide the following people: Home Team: Scorekeeper, Shot clock operator and Penalty Box Visitor Team: Clock and Penalty Box These volunteers will need to report to the registration desk 30 minutes prior to the start of the game. Minor Officials - Playoff Games (Semi/Medal Games) During the Semi-Finals and medal games, the tournament committee will provide: Timekeepers, Shot Clock Operators and Scorekeepers. Teams will provide Penalty Box Volunteers
5 4 Opening Ceremonies The Opening Ceremonies Committee would like each teams coaching staff to share the following information with their team and parents in order to help with the organization of the ceremony. Location: Town and Country Centre, 275 Jensen Drive NE, Airdrie, Alberta T4B1N1 Arrival Time All players and coaching staff must be dropped off no later than 5:45 p.m. at the Town and Country Centre. Start Time Opening Ceremonies will begin roughly at 6:00 p.m. and will last no longer than 90 minutes. Staging Once dropped off, players, coaches, and bench staff will be directed into the smaller hall adjacent (right side) to the main hall doors. This will be the initial martialling area prior to teams entering the main hall. Coaches are asked to have team members line up single file with the banner holder(s) at the front of the line. Teams will line up beside each other in the small hall in the following order: 1. Bowview Madness 2. Bowview Kiss 3. Northwest Impact 4. Northwest Noise 5. Red Deer Rush 6. St. Albert Force 7. South Calgary Shock 8. Airdrie Sting Teams will be ushered out to the main hall roughly around 6:00pm for the begining of the ceremony. Teams will be called one by one by the emcee to walk in line toward the stage. While walking down the left hand isle the emcee will speak about the teams accomplishments during the year. Teams will march onto the stage to be greeted by the dignataries and to take a bow. Teams will then be ushered off the stage and a volunteer will take each teams banner and hang it on the wall in the hall. Teams will be seated in their reserved row after leaving the stage. Players need to sit in the middle of each row and bench staff and coaches on the left-hand side rows (facing the stage).
6 5 Theme In honour of St. Patricks Day, the theme for the evening is A Little bit of Blarney. Teams are asked to wear something green with a St. Patrick s theme. This willl help add to the atmosphere of the evening. Check out the Dollar Store, Dollarama and Walmart for a large selection of St. Patrick s Day items. Party supply stores also carry similar items. 7 6 Leprachaun Challenges During the Opening Ceremonies, there will be 3 Leprachaun Challenges held throughout the ceremony. These are Minute-to-Win It type of challenges. The Host Committee is asking the coaches to supply 3 girls from their team ( one per challenge) to take part. The challenges will take part on stage and on the floor. These players should not previously be chosen for the Skills Competition, unless they are not comfortable in front of crowds. Skills Competition This will be a fun way for the girls to show their special skills off! The skills competition will take place Saturday March, 18th, 2:30pm to 3:30pm at the Genesis Twin Arena following the Feature Game. Awards will be given out at end of the competition. Please refer to Skills info package. Feature Game The Rath vs WAM feature game will take place Saturday, March 18th, 12:00pm - 2:00pm at Geneis Place (Shane Homes Ice). Programs Programs will be available for download in digital format. Most Valuable Player Awards (MVP) MVP awards will be given out after all games. We ask that the teams line up on the blue line immediately after shaking hands. The coaches of each team will then pick one player from the opposing team to receive the award. Coaches may use any criteria they wish e.g. effort, contribution, team play etc. to choose their MVP players. Silent Auction, 50/50, Raffle Baskets, Barrow of Booze On Friday and Saturday we will have tables set up with some great raffle prizes.
8 7 Tournament Photography The Provincial Host Committee is excited to offer all participating teams an amazing opportunity. Professional sports photographer Kyle Clapham will be taking bookings for Provincials photos. OPTION #1 - TEAM CD: $300 (approximately $20 / person). Minimum 200 fully edited photos of ALL players and coaches. OPTION #2 - INDIVIDUAL CD: $50, minimum 15 fully edited photos of your player. If you have not already pre-booked, be sure to contact Kyle at: kyleclapham@telus.net Check out some of his incredible sports photography at for more samples of his work. Closing Ceremonies Closing eremonies will take place immediately following the Gold Medal game. Arena Rules No running, playing tag, street ringette or other games anywhere in the arena. Warm up in designated areas only. Play your music at moderate levels as other patrons deserve respect. In accordance with Fire Safety Regulations please do not park in front of any access doors or use the handicap parking unless authorized. Vehicles will be tagged and towed at the owners expense. Any abuse, verbal or otherwise, of volunteers, referees or arena staff will not be tolerated and will result in immediate expulsion from the arena.

12 11 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT RULES 1. All Provincial Championship Tournaments will be played according to the Ringette Canada Official Rules and Case Book, current to that season 2. All applicable Ringette Alberta policies are in full effect. Teams should be sure to review the following policies, which are of particular importance: a. 2.0 Registration Policy b. 5.0 Player Affiliation Policy c Team Staff Policy d Suspension Policy (Subsequent Discipline) 3. The shot clock will be used for all Provincial Championships. 4. Ringette Alberta game sheets, supplied by Ringette Alberta, will be used. A copy of the game sheet will be distributed by a representative at the control desk following the completion of the game. Distribution will be as follows; one copy to the home team, one copy to the visiting team and one copy to the Ringette Alberta office upon completion of the Provincial Championship Tournament. a. Game sheets must be completed and signed at the control desk by the coach or manager a minimum of twenty (20) minutes prior to game time. Teams will indicate the starting goaltender (G), alternate goaltender(s) (AG), affiliate players (AP), captains (C) and assistant captains (A) on the game sheet. A delay of game penalty may be assessed for noncompliance with this rule. b. All uniform numbers will coincide with the game sheet. Each player shall have an individual number and there shall be no duplicating of numbers on any team. 5. When the reference is made to the home team it will be the first team listed on the schedule. 6. In case of conflict in uniform colors, the visiting team will be required to change uniforms.
13 12 On-Ice Procedures 7. Period Length a. For all U12 and U14 divisions, periods will be eighteen (18) minutes in length. b. For all divisions U16 and above, at the A, B C, and D and Masters, periods will be twenty (20) minutes in length. c. For U16 and U19 AA divisions, periods will be twenty (20) minutes in length. 8. There will be a three (3) minute warm-up and a one (1) minute break between periods. 9. Teams must be ready to go on the ice ten (10) minutes before game time. Teams noticed within two (2) minutes of the referee s whistle being blown to start the game will forfeit the game. The game will be played as exhibition 10. Alternate goalkeepers may be warmed up between periods in the end their team will defend for the second period. They may use one skater and two rings for the purposes of warm-up. There will be no time outs permitted to warm up an alternate goaltender except in the case of an injury to the starting goaltender in which case the Official Rules of Ringette will be followed. 11. If a misconduct or match penalty is assessed during a game, that person will be ejected from the game. Suspensions resulting from this ejection will be handled by the Protest and Grievance Committee. Tie-breakers 14. These steps shall be followed in sequence until the tied teams have been ranked in order in the standings. Once one team has been ranked, the procedure reverts back to (1). The top team shall be ranked first. If all teams have not played an equal number of games amongst the tied teams, the tie breaker will start at step d (this may apply for seven (7) and twelve (12) team Provincial formats). a. The winner of more game(s) between tied teams during the round robin will be declared the highest position. b. If still tied, the team having the greatest positive difference between goals for and against in games between the tied teams in the round robin will be declared the highest position.
14 13 c. If still tied, the team having the least total goals against in games between the tied teams during the round robin will be declared the highest position. d. If still tied, the team having the greatest positive difference between goals for and against in all games during the round robin will be declared the highest position. e. If still tied, the tied team with the least total goals against in all games during the round robin, including cross-over games in the case of a 12 team provincials, will be declared the highest position. f. If still tied, the team having the lowest number of penalty minutes in games between tied teams will be declared the highest position g. Least amount of penalty minutes in all round robin games, including cross-over games in the case of a 12 team provincials h. If still tied, a randomly drawn team. 15. In the event that after round robin play teams are tied for a position which entitles a team to participate in any of the championship games (gold, bronze or semi-final games), the following rules will apply: a. Once tied teams have been ranked, from highest to lowest, then ten (10) minute mini game(s), starting with the two (2) lowest ranked teams, will be played to determine the team(s) who advance(s) to either the semi-finals or medal games. b. If three (3) or more teams are tied for one position, then the two lowest ranked teams will play in a mini game, the winner of this mini game will move on to play the next highest ranked team. This process repeats with each winner successively playing the higher ranked team until there is one winner from the mini games. For example, if there are 3 tied teams, two mini-games are needed, 4 tied teams require 3 mini-games to declare a winner. The winner will advance to the semi-finals or medal game. c. If three (3) or more teams are tied for the two (2) positions, then the team ranked first (1st) shall automatically advance and the mini game procedure would be applied to determine the second position. For more than two (2) positions, mini games will be used to determine the last available slot.
15 14 H. Team Protocol 1. Shaking Hands a. At the end of each game, teams should line up on their respective blue lines and then proceed toshake hands at center ice. Coaches and managers may also join the line. 2. Receiving Trophies and Medallions a. Only players and Team Staff members listed on the game sheet will receive medallions, to a maximum of 18. If extra medals are needed, they may be purchased from the office. I. Protest and Grievance 1. Ringette Alberta will appoint a Protest and Grievance Committee for each of the Provincial Championship Tournaments. This committee will consist of the Ringette Alberta tournament Representative (or designate) and the head on-ice official for the Tournament (or designate). 2. At least one member of the committee shall be present at the arena at all times. All members should be readily available to meet and decide upon any protest or grievance within thirty (30) minutes of submission. 3. The Committee will handle any suspensions resulting from misconduct or match penalties assessed during Provincial Championships. 4. The Committee will consider all appeals, protests and grievances related to the Provincial Championship Tournament. They will not consider an appeal based upon a referee s judgment call. 5. Protests will only be entertained from a registered team staff member. 6. All protests must be submitted in writing to any member of the Protest and Grievance Committee within thirty (30) minutes of completion of round robin and semi-final games or forty-five (45) minutes of completion of medal round game leading to the protest.
16 15 7. All protests must be accompanied by a deposit in the amount as specified in Appendix A - Rates and Fees of the Ringette Alberta Policy Manual. The deposit will be refunded only if the protest is upheld. 8. The Protest and Grievance Committee s decision is final and no further appeals will be entertained. J.Points 1. Points for the games played in the round robin series will be awarded as follows: a. 2 points for a win b. In overtime: (A, B, C, and D only) i. 2 points for winning team ii. 1 point for losing team iii. 1 point for each team if still tied after overtime c. 0 points for a loss in regulation time 2. In semi-final or final games, home will be the team: a. With the most points b. With the least goals against in all round robin games, including cross-over games in the case of a 12 team provincials. c. From Pool A
17 16 Injury Response Plan There is always the potential for injury in all physical activities. Therefore, it is important to have an emergency action plan. The key to the emergency action plan is getting professional care to the athlete as quickly as possible. Take control and assess the situation. 2. Remember the basic first aid rule: Do not move the injured athlete. If the athlete cannot start a movement herself, do not move the body part for them. 3. Tell bystanders to leave the athlete alone. 4. Leave the athlete s equipment in place. 5. Evaluate the injury. Once you have assessed the severity of the injury, decide whether further assistance is required. If an ambulance is required DIAL If an ambulance is not needed, decide on how to remove the injured athlete from the ice surface.
