The Engineers conclude the trip on October 27 at Union (7pm), before hosting the Dutchmen the following night for Blackout! at the Houston Field House (7pm). FIT TO BE TIED The Engineers picked up a pair of 1-1 ties at Ohio State last weekend to open the season... Junior netminder Chase Perry stopped 83 of 85 shots over the two games, including 56 of 57 on Friday night... He made 25 saves in the second period alone... Senior captain Jared Wilson netted RPI s tally on that night, with assists going to Meirs Moore and Todd Burgess... Evan Tironese gave Rensselaer a 1-0 lead 56 seconds into Saturday afternoon s contest, with the long helper going to Troy York... Ohio State drew even early in the second on a goal by Christian Lampasso... Perry finished with 27 saves, including all 15 shots he faced in the third period. RPI LEADERS Six different players have recorded points for the Engineers, including senior captain Jared Wilson and junior Evan Tironese, who have the team s two goals. ENGINEERS GOALTENDING Junior netminder Chase Perry has started both games for RPI this season, posting a record with a 0.92 goals against average and a.976 save percentage... Both of those figures lead the nation.

3 GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK Junior goalie Chase Perry earned ECAC Hockey s Goaltender of the Week award after posting 83 saves in two games last week, including a careerhigh 56 on Friday night in a 1-1 tie with Ohio State... It is the first weekly conference award for Perry, whose previous career-best for saves in a single game was He backed up his big night on Friday with stopping 27 shots, including all 15 he faced in the third period, to help the Engineers to another 1-1 draw with the Buckeyes. SCOUTING NIAGARA The Purple Eagles come into the weekend at 1-1, falling at Colgate, 5-1, before edging Robert Morris, 4-3, in overtime... Niagara, which hasn t played since October 6, is led by five players with two points apiece... Senior Derrian Plouffe has two goals, while junior Johnny Curran has two assists... In goal, junior Guillaume Therien (1-0) has a 2.88 goals against average and a.912 save percentage, while freshman Brian Wilson (0-1) has a 4.01 goals against average and an.875 save percentage. FOR RIT The Tigers tied Northeastern, 3-3, in their season opener last Saturday... Junior Erik Brown was their only multi-point scorer in the contest, picking up a pair of goals, while senior Myles Powell had the other... Freshman netminder Logan Drackett registered 41 saves in his collegiate debut. SPECIAL TEAMS SHINES The Engineers went 1 for 8 on the power play at Ohio State and 9 for 9 on the penalty kill, including a 6 for 6 effort on opening night. FIRST POINTS Sophomore Todd Burgess, who missed all of due to injury, wasted little time in picking up his first point in the Cherry & White, when he assisted on RPI s lone tally on Friday night... Not to be outdone, freshman Troy York earned the helper on Rensselaer s only goal on Saturday, in his collegiate debut. UNBEATEN THROUGH TWO The Engineers became only the 12th in program history to return from its first two road games without a loss and the first to do so since The Engineers won a pair at the Times Union Center, but lost in their first true road contest of the season. FAMILIAR RESULT Rensselaer and Ohio State have now tied five of their seven meetings all-time, including three consecutive 5-5 deadlocks to open the series. TOP RETURNERS Rensselaer brings back six of its top seven pointgetters from a year ago, including Evan Tironese, who notched seven goals and a team-high 21 assists for 28 points... Jacob Hayhurst had seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points, while Viktor Liljegren added 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points.

5 Smith comes to Rensselaer after spending 12 years as the head men s hockey coach at Canisius College. He led the Golden Griffins to three-straight trips to Atlantic Hockey Championship weekend for the first time in school history, including consecutive appearances in the title game and the team s first crown in Smith led Canisius to a overall record in , including an mark in Atlantic Hockey play. The team finished the season on a 17-game unbeaten streak (14-0-3) before falling to Robert Morris in the conference semifinals. During the campaign, Smith guided Canisius to the program s first conference title with a 7-2 victory in the Atlantic Hockey Championship against Mercyhurst and the team s first appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament. The Griffs also finished the campaign ranked 19th in the final USCHO.com national poll, marking the program s highest finish in the national rankings. HEAD COACH DAVE SMITH Canisius nearly duplicated the remarkable feat the following two seasons, advancing to the 2014 Atlantic Hockey title game after again eliminating the top two seeds in the conference tournament before earning a second-place finish in 2015 matching the program s best regular-season finish and making a third-straight trip to the semifinals. In his first 11 seasons, 186 Griffs have earned Atlantic Hockey All-Academic accolades, including a school-record 23 following the campaign. In addition, Max Buetow ( ), Dave Cianfrini ( ), Ryan Bohrer ( & ), Stephen Miller ( & ) and Geoff Fortman ( & ) were named the Atlantic Hockey Top Scholar Athlete for owning the top GPA in the league. The hockey program consistently owns the top GPA of any team at Canisius with a 3.31 cumulative mark following the academic year. During his tenure as an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Miami, Smith coached or recruited two Hobey Baker Award Finalists, four Players of the Year, two Rookies of the Year, 22 all-league award winners and three Terry Flanagan Award winners for Perseverance. The Arthur, Ontario, native was also instrumental in guiding Mercyhurst to two league championships and two NCAA Division I Tournament appearances in his three seasons with the Lakers. Smith graduated from Ohio State University in 1992 with a bachelor s degree in journalism/public relations and was a four-year letterwinner for the Buckeyes. Smith finished his career at Ohio State with 140 points, ranking 14th all-time. He was selected as team captain as a junior and chosen as the team s MVP as a senior, while leading the Buckeyes with 41 assists and 63 points. After graduating from Ohio State, Smith spent six seasons in professional hockey, including five full seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the International Hockey League (IHL) and a brief period in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). He was under contract with the New York Rangers in Smith has spent his summers coaching young players and adults as a director and head instructor at numerous camps across the United States and Canada. Smith and his wife, Susan, have two daughters, Ellis and Kylie. Susan is a professor at Rensselaer, while Ellis is a goaltender for the ice hockey team at Manhattanville College and Kylie plays softball for Nazareth College. GOALTENDERS Chase Perry, who played 70.6% of RPI s minutes between the pipes last year, is back for , along with freshman Linden Marshall and sophomore Kyle St. Denis, who joined the program in January... CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED RPI s three seniors will all be wearing letters this season as head coach Dave Smith announced that Jared Wilson, Viktor Liljegren and Mike Prapavessis will be captains for the season... A defenseman and veteran of 114 games, Wilson has 20 goals and 18 assists for 38 career points, entering this season... Liljegren, a winger, has accumulated 22 goals and 23 assists for 45 points in 117 games, while Prapavessis, a blueliner, has played in 117 contests, collecting seven goals and 36 assists for 43 points. BRIGHT SPOT The Engineers finished with the nation s ninth-best power play, at 21.3%... RPI went 36 for 169 on the man advantage, including 17 for 63 (27.0%) from January 1 onward. IN ECAC HOCKEY PLAY Chase Perry shined in conference play last year, posting a record, with a 2.39 goals against average and a.933 save percentage, which was good for third among ECAC Hockey goalies. GOALS RETURNING The Engineers bring back 61.4% (51 of 83) of their goal-scoring from last season, including 11 from Jared Wilson and 10 from Viktor Liljegren... Evan Tironese (7 goals), Jacob Hayhurst (7 goals) and Brady Wiffen (4 goals) are also back for BLUE LINE SCORING Rensselaer returns 55 of 62 points from last year s defensive core, including 16 of 17 goals...
