ETSU defeated VMI 4-0 on Tuesday before tying Furman 1-1 on Saturday. Senior forward Fletcher Ekern, who scored against VMI, is now just three goals away from tying the ETSU career goals record of 26. UNCG made ground in the standings with a 6-1 win over Wofford and a 2-1 win over Mercer. Against the Bears, sophomore defender Casey Penland scored in the second half, setting the table for a Leeroy Maguraushe double-overtime goal to lift the Spartans to victory. After Mercer s Conner Antley tied the game, Furman s Danny Kiereth converted a free kick to lift the Paladins to a 2-1 overtime victory. The Paladins are currently tied for third in the standings with Wofford and travel to Spartanburg. South Carolina, on Tuesday looking to avenge a 1-0 loss from earlier this season. Wofford, whose only wins have come in conference play, was downed by UNCG 6-1 on Tuesday but bounced back to defeat VMI 6-1 on Saturday. Tuesday s matchup with Furman is senior day for the Terriers. Mercer suffered a pair of heartbreaking, overtime losses in both of its contests this past week as Furman and UNCG both defeated the Bears 2-1. Searching for its first win, VMI travels to UNCG on Tuesday before hosting the aforementioned Bears on Saturday. UNCG defender Casey Penland has been named the Southern Conference men s soccer player of the week for all competition from Oct after scoring two goals and registering one assist in a pair of victories over Wofford and Mercer. Penland, a sophomore from High Point, North Carolina, scored a goal and dished out an assist in the 6-1 win against Wofford on Tuesday. Against Mercer, Penland scored the game-tying goal in the second half, sending the game to overtime where the Spartans would go on to defeat the Bears 2-1. UNCG enters the last week of conference play sitting tied for first with upcoming matchups against VMI on Tuesday and Furman on Saturday.
