PVYA BOYS LACROSSE April 15th, 2018 Meeting called to order by President, Tara Shaffer at 4:38 PM Attendance: Tara Shaffer Chris Shaffer Heather Walter Brenda Russell Jeff Hallenbeck Rachael Ryals Cassi Bertoline Derek Hoffman Tanya Iandoli Carlynn Kaiser Jennifer Counterman Sam Counterman Ruth Arezzi Michelle Fleming Brett Hyland Michelle Power Melissa Bauman Board Reports President We are going lime green for the month of May. The entire Lehigh Valley League has paired up with HEADstrong, the cancer foundation. It s a contest as to who can raise the most. We will have our webpage to donate and we will do green laces for purchase for the month of May. There will also be some activities that will be included on Family Fun Day. Vice President Two parents have suggested a fundraiser on behalf of Tammy s family. One is a bake sale on our first home game on April 28th. The other will be on May 6th s home game. Rita s Italian Ice will be there. They are donating a $1.00 per cup
goes to the family. These fundraisers were not created by the board but by the parents. Treasurer Monthly Balances This month s revenue is -$ We purchased umbrellas and set up the till for our concession stand. Expenses of $9, We pulled the money for the referees and paid for the uniforms. Checking balance = $19, More expenses of Fan Gear, more equipment, the first 2 home games, referee fees, scholarship, Family Fun Day, and end of year party to come. Secretary Motion to approve last month s minutes - Approved by Rachael- seconded by Heather. Fundraising/Event Coordinator We purchased 24 umbrellas and all but 1 is sold. We have a profit of $ Socks were purchased 120 only have 23 pairs remaining. We have profit of $ after paying for all of the socks. Yankee Candle s profit is $ A little less than last year but another club picked it up as their Fall fundraiser and also Boy Scouts were selling it during the same sell period. Top Yankee Candle sellers were: No one sold over $500.00, Hunter Russell sold $381.00, Ryan Acconzo sold $ also earned the workbond point
Lacrosse Coordinator We always have to decide whether to play in the A bracket or B. Our groups are mixed with experience and brand new players. Our mission and goal as PVYA lacrosse is to introduce the sport, build skills, build teamwork, build leadership skills as young men. To also give them an outlet for athletic involvement. Of course we would want our teams to win each week but the losses are great life lessons. The wins don t come without the hard work and teamwork. We are looking at having some summer teams. When you look at the other teams rosters from the Lehigh Valley League almost every kid on an A roster plays summer leagues, club teams, travel teams, and all year teams. We are a little removed from locations (distance) of those clubs and summer teams. It may not be a reality for our parents either from financially, time dedication, or dedications to other sports. We have some tough games coming up but at the end of season, coaches, parents, and players should be able to say that they ve seen some growth with the players. Coaches Updates: K-2 - Coach John Both teams are doing awesome. The first graders are passing and catching without dropping balls. 3 / 4 - Coach Keith, did not attend 5 / 6 - Coach Brett We lost our first two games. The boys haven t given up and played the games to the end. The kids are great and they keep working at it. Thanks to them and the parents. We are struggling with the fundamentals (throwing, catching, cradling, etc.) 7 / 8 - Coach Derek
We lost the first 2 games. They are struggling with the fundamentals also. The other team coach s continued to run up the score before putting in his B team. Mercy rule - we will decline it. Our players will continue to do Faceoff to gain practice and prepare for high school. Equipment/Field Manager We re busy preparing fields for our first home game coming up. The set-up will be different this year because of the required field sizes. Old Business Lehigh College Game - everyone that went said it was a lot of fun. The older kids were reluctant to get on the field with the college players. They did form lines with the younger players on each side so that the college players could hit their hands. New Business Family Fun Day - May 19th with a rain date of May 20th We have basket raffles during the day. All but 2 teams have turned in themes (so far we have: 7-8 s will do gardening, 5-6 s will do sports, 3-4 s have decided to do Movie Night). We will also have an Alex s Lemonade Stand as a charity. Still working on some vendors to be there (LuLaRoe, West End Rentals, Thirty-One). Bounce House, Dunk Tank (coaches bring your suits), and Popcorn Machine Face Painting Table - still looking for parent volunteers Concession Stand will be open Rita s Italian Ice will be there
Dawn will be doing her creative skills to do some player recognition HEADstrong will be selling candy bars with labels on them We are looking for a league representative - it s not a voting board position but a volunteer position that fulfills your work bond. They have meetings the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Preseason is 7:00 pm and during the season it s 8:00 pm due to practice. Usually there s nothing July, August, or September. They will come back together in October to try to finish business by November so they don t have to meet December or January. Usually takes an hour to meet. The only downfall is it s at Southern Lehigh High School and it s a distance away. This person would be the information carrier. Any votes will be voted during our Board Meeting and then the person would carry the vote down to the meeting. Yearbook Shutterfly is still up - only 44 members - more are encouraged to join to get all groups well represented. Will start Shout Outs online this year but we will also do the paper copies if anyone wants to use them - will not proof the paper copies. Local Businesses - always welcomed for ½ page or a full page and can include a player on it. Will give the West End Diner a ½ page for hosting our Dine-in/out fundraiser. Important Dates: April s are playing Northampton at 7:00pm following the Bears game. April 21 - all games at Grange Field - Away
April 28 - our first home games - workbond will be up on April 22 - it is a first come, first serve basis May 7 - PVHS Lacrosse Senior Night - All kids that attend will form a hand tunnel for the high school players to run through onto the field Halftime Game - just K-2 s will play 3-4 s and 5-6 s will have a chance to be chosen to be ball boys on the sidelines. Only those that are interested will have their names put into a drawing. They will also need 1 coach for each half to watch over the kids. Have kids to be there by 5:30pm (will confirm) Kids won t have to pay admission but adults it is $2.00 May 19 - Family Fun Day at the high school stadium (rain date is May 20th). May 20 is the next Board Meeting - if the rain date for Family Fun Day is used, Board Meeting may be rescheduled. June 2 - End of year tournament at Grange Field. All games will be on one day. We are looking to secure at pavilion for $200. It will be a location that we can meet and hang out between games. June 10 - End of season party at Mountain View Park. Times to be announced. Questions/Concerns No concerns or questions Motion to Adjourn@ 5:06 by Chris, seconded by John
