1 2013 UPPER BLACKWOOD SHEARING COMPETITION COMPETITION REPORT The 95 th Upper Blackwood Agricultural Society (Inc.) annual show was held on Tuesday 5 th November One of the main attractions of the show each year is the Dinninup Shearing Competition. The immediate competition area is Boyup Brook and the surrounding shires Kojonup, Bridgetown and Darkan. This year the event attracted 28 entrants ranging from as far north as Hyden, Bolgart, Wongan Hills and Nungarin, east to Tambellup and the south west. We had 10 novice entries this year with competitors coming from the Cunderdin Agricultural College and Harvey Agricultural College. The competition commenced at 8.30am with the heats finishing by noon and finals after lunch and the running of the Melbourne Cup. The novices were very appreciative of the helpful advice and tips they gained from the more experienced shearers and judges on the day. As in previous years, each novice had a shearer from the open division on hand to help guide them while shearing in their heats and finals. This year the novice place getters took away a total of $600 worth of cash and prizes in addition to the refund of their entry fees.
