1 To all Archery Coaches and Shooters: This year there are several changes to our State Competition. We will be shooting at a different location, Cullman, AL, and we have re-worked the rules. The changes to the rules are highlighted in yellow. Please familiarize yourself and you archers all of the rules. You must pre-register. This is so lane assignments and times can be made. Don t forget to note if equipment is being shared and if an archer is shooting in more than one class. You can your registration or you can mail it to me. Please send me your physical mailing address. If time allows I will send a packet all the paperwork you will need to fill out for the competition. I am trying to make the registration process as easy as I can. We are so looking forward to seeing everyone April 5. Thank you, Barbara Johns
2 2014 ALABAMA 4-ARCHERY CHAMPIONSHIP The 2014 Alabama 4-H Archery Championship will be held on Saturday April 5, 2014 at the Cullman Driving Range located across the street from the Gold Course (2602 CR 490 Hanceville, AL 35077) and next to the Heritage Archery Range cost will be per archer. Registration will begin at 7:00. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30. ELIGIBILITY: 4-H events are open to active members of a chartered Alabama 4-H Club that has experiential learning in regularly scheduled and planned meetings. Participation is limited to those members who are actively participating in the 4-H program and have been a member for a 90-day minimum. The Alabama 4-H Club Year begins on August 1 and ends on July 31. Age eligibility is determined by how old the youth is prior to January 1 of the Alabama 4-H Club Year. To be eligible for 4-H the youth must be nine years old and not older than 19 years old prior to January 1 of the Alabama 4-H Club year. The team coach must certify in writing that the 4-Hers have completed one of these safety programs. 3 A participant can shoot in as many classes as they want, time permitting, as long as they have not placed first in that class at a previous 4-H State Match. When pre-registering make it clear that a participant is shooting in more than one class so the lanes can be set up for this, again this is if time permits. Any bow that uses pulleys or cams is deemed a compound. Even though the 3 governing bodies for the 3 events have slightly different requirements or restrictions-for the sake of simplification-this 4-H match will use one standard for equipment for all events. Procedural rules, course of fire, scoring, etc. will follow the NGB unless otherwise noted..teams consist of a minimum of 3 shooters and a maximum of 4. MATCH EQUIPMENT: in 4-H Genesis, bows are considered compound bows. Teams and individuals will furnish all their own equipment. It is desirable that shooters not share equipment. If sharing is necessary, please indicate this on the preregistration. Each archer should mark their arrows so they can be identified quickly.. Bows must be 60lb or less in draw weight All (both Junior and Senior) equipment will be checked prior to match beginning during on-sight registration. All senior participants bow draw weight will be checked during on-site registration also 8-10 arrows will be checked. Senior participants can retrieve their bows and arrows prior to their match, at the instruction of the Range Officer The checking of the draw weight will be done by representatives from the Counties participating in the match. Please let Barbara Johns know if you will be willing to help us this task. -Other than what has already been stated, one adjustable sight pin or multiple hunting style sight pins may be used, clicker and kisser button may also be used. No string peeps, or mechanical release aids or torque compensators are allowed. -Other than what has already been stated, release aids are permitted, overdraws may not place the arrow rest further than 6 cm from the pivot point of the bow, string peeps and optical sights are permitted, spirit levels are permitted, 60 lb maximum draw weight. No battery lights on sight aid. Arrows-Arrows must meet AMO minimum weight standard (6 grains arrow weight per pound of bow peak draw weight), no arrows a diameter of 23/64 or larger will be allowed. Mark arrows so they can be identified quickly. Quivers: All shooters will use the ground quivers that are provided by the Archery coordinators. No personal quivers will be used. If there is a need for the use of a personal quiver, it will be taken under consideration by the Senior Range Officer and Match Director. All questions and concerns must be brought to the Senior Range Officer first by the official coach, as stated on the entry form. The Range Officer will then consult the Match Director if needed and a decision will be made. All decisions are final. Replacement of equipment - A coach may provide replacement or additional equipment as needed after obtaining permission from the range official. Assistance - Coaches may be requested by the range official to assist a 4-H er a situation on the firing line. Equipment Failure: There will be 20 minutes given for any equipment failure. Shooter will be allowed to shoot all shots after equipment is fixed.
4 Binoculars: Binoculars may be used from the shooting line after participant has taken their shot. No adjustment of sights will be allowed after an archer has drawn and letdown. Archers should also be aware of time consideration. No range finders will be permitted. No MP3 players, cell phones, ear buds or other electronic device will be allowed on the shooting field or in the immediate vicinity of the firing line. These should be left behind the viewing line.. Essential communication can take place off range where there will be no disturbance to the shooters. Coaching: NOBODY can coach, advise, or assist participants once an event has started. Calling shots or shot placement will disqualify a team or individual. Also, advising yardage or distance will not be allowed. Contestants are on their own once an event is started. Coaching from spectators or observers will not be allowed and will disqualify a participant. Coaches will not be allowed on the course or firing line unless needed by range officer.. All coaches must stay outside of competition zones. Coaches will assure that their competitors are familiar the range and range procedures. Ignorance of range procedures will not be a basis for protest. A range officer will be appointed and will be the only individual issuing range commands (although anyone can call for a cease-fire when an unsafe situation presents itself). COACHING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE WAITING LINE OR FIRING LINE AND WILL BE GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION. PARTICIPANTS ARE ON THEIR OWN ONCE THE MATCH BEGINS. 4-H ers responsibilities- 4-H ers are responsible for knowing the rules of their event and staying in them. Learning the rules of the events is part of the educational process for shooting sports participants, but the intent is to aid shooters rather than entrap them Range Commands: Control over the range will be through verbal, whistle, or light commands, or a combination of those command types. Whistle or light commands are preferred for larger groups, while verbal commands are acceptable for small groups of shooters. Cease-fire - The verbal command to cease fire, multiple whistle blasts (4 or more) or a red light requires all 4- H ers to stop immediately and remove any arrow from the string. The command indicates the presence of an unsafe condition downrange or the end of the time for that end. Any arrow shot after the cease-fire command at the end of a firing period will result in the loss of the highest scoring arrow for that end by the 4-H er. Shooters to the line - Either the verbal command or two whistle blasts calls 4-H ers to the firing line. Commence firing - Either the verbal command, a single whistle blast or a green light indicates the beginning of the shooting time for each flight or relay. Flight completed, score your targets and retrieve your arrows- A clear verbal command or a series of 3 whistle blasts may be used to indicate that the range is clear and the group may proceed to score targets and retrieve arrows. Resume firing - Either the verbal command or one whistle blast is the signal to resume firing after an interruption. Score Keepers: Scorekeepers are not to tell shooters their score during match. Shooters are not to ask the scorekeepers what their score is. All shooters will sign their scorecard at the end of the match. Scorekeepers will initial scorecards.
5 FITA Round FITA Round - 4-H ers have a total of four minutes to shoot each end of 6 arrows and 2 minutes to shoot 3 arrows. Bows may be drawn only on approved ranges the permission of the Range Officer. Under no circumstance is sky-drawing permitted. (Seniors) Will shoot 3 ends of 6 arrows from the 60 and 50 meter distance and 6 ends of 3 arrows from the 40 and 30 meter distance for a total of 72 arrows. All participants will shoot as a member of a team or as an individual. This will be designated prior to the beginning of the relay. A team consists of 3 members all scores counting or of 4 members the three highest scores counting to make the Team Score. Junior shooters can be used to fill empty places on Senior Teams however; Juniors cannot go to National Match. Awards First, second, and third place Team Awards will be given in each Division.
