3 2016 NHL AWARDS MEDIA SCHEDULE OF EVENTS All Times Pacific/Subject to Change The 2016 NHL Awards which will be held Wednesday, June 22, at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas will be hosted by world-renowned actor Will Arnett with live musical performances by alternative rock band X Ambassadors. The two-hour primetime show will be broadcast live at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT on NBCSN in the U.S. and Sportsnet in Canada. 6 ART ROSS TROPHY to the player who leads the League in scoring points at the end of the regular season WINNER Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks Kane finished the season with a career-high 46 goals, 60 assists and 106 points, besting Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn ( ) and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby ( ) for his first career Art Ross Trophy. Kane registered at least one point in 64 of the 82 contests he played in (78.0%), highlighted by a 26-game point streak Oct. 17 Dec. 13 ( ) a franchise record, the longest by a U.S.-born player in NHL history and the longest by any player since (Mats Sundin: 30). He also recorded his first two career hat tricks (Jan. 15 at TOR and April 3 vs. BOS) and scored in a career-high seven straight games Nov (7-9 16), tied for the longest such run by any player this season. The Buffalo, N.Y., native became the first U.S.-born player in NHL history to capture the Art Ross Trophy. He also became the first U.S.-born player to reach the 100-point milestone since (Doug Weight: Detroit, Mich.) and the first Blackhawks player to hit the number since (Jeremy Roenick). 8 BILL MASTERTON MEMORIAL TROPHY to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey FINALISTS Pascal Dupuis, Pittsburgh Penguins Dupuis earned the Masterton nomination for the Penguins for his determination in rejoining the team after nearly a year of rehabilitation, training, medical testing and monitoring in caring for multiple injuries and blood clot concerns. He appeared in 18 games before a pair of medical scares convinced him to make the difficult decision to retire. At the request of GM Jim Rutherford, Dupuis remains with the Penguins to assist in a new capacity. He is with the team on a daily basis, attending games and providing feedback to the coaching staff and players. Jaromir Jagr, Florida Panthers Jagr was selected as the Panthers Masterton Trophy nominee in a season that saw the 44-year-old inspire his team to franchise records for wins (47) and points (103) while capturing their second division title. Playing in his 22nd NHL season, Jagr led the Panthers in scoring with , becoming the oldest player in League history to surpass the 60-point plateau. His work ethic and off-ice mentorship particularly with linemates Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau, whose combined age is younger than Jagr was considered as valuable as his on-ice production. Mats Zuccarello, New York Rangers Zuccarello was named the Rangers Masterton Trophy nominee in recognition of a spirited return to action in after suffering a serious head injury during the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Zuccarello missed the Rangers final 14 postseason games last year after being struck in the head by a slap shot in a game April 24, He skated in 81 games this season and established career highs in several categories, including games played (81), goals (26), points (61) and power-play goals (7). 9 CALDER MEMORIAL TROPHY to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the NHL FINALISTS Shayne Gostisbehere, Philadelphia Flyers Gostisbehere, a third-round selection (78th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft, led rookie defensemen in goals (17), assists (29), points (46), power-play goals (8), power-play points (22) and game-winning goals (5) while playing in 64 contests. He also scored four overtime goals, setting a League record for any rookie while matching a single-season record for any defenseman. Gostisbehere posted a 15-game point streak Jan. 19 Feb. 20 ( ), an NHL record for a rookie defenseman as well as a franchise record for any rookie. He is Philadelphia s first Calder Trophy finalist since (Mikael Renberg) and is vying to become the first player in team history to capture the award. Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers McDavid, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, ranked fourth among rookies with despite appearing in only 45 games due to injury. His average of 1.07 points per game led all rookies and ranked third in the entire League. McDavid recorded multiple points in 12 of his 45 outings, highlighted by a five-point game Feb. 11 vs. TOR (2-3 5). At 19 years, 29 days, he became the ninth-youngest player in NHL history to register a five-point performance (as well as the third rookie in Oilers history to achieve the feat). McDavid is Edmonton s first Calder Trophy finalist since (Ryan Nugent-Hopkins) and also is attempting to become the first player in club history to win the award. Artemi Panarin, Chicago Blackhawks Panarin, who signed with the Blackhawks in May 2015, led all rookies in goals (30), assists (47), points (77), power-play goals (t-8), power-play points (24) and game-winning goals (7) while skating in 80 contests. He became the fourth rookie in franchise history to reach the 30-goal milestone and the first to do so since (Eric Daze). That included his first career hat trick Feb. 17 at NYR, the first by any Blackhawks rookie since (Tyler Arnason). SELKE TROPHY to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game FINALISTS Patrice Bergeron, Boston Bruins Bergeron was the NHL s busiest player in the face-off circle, leading the League with 1,978 draws the highest singleseason total since Carolina s Rod Brind Amour took 2,047 during his Selke-winning campaign in Bergeron also led all centers in face-off wins with 1,130 (57.1%), eclipsing a 57% win rate for the fifth consecutive season. That figure included 389 defensive-zone wins, tops in the Eastern Conference. He appeared in 80 games and played an average of 19:50 per contest, second among Bruins forwards and his highest figure since Bergeron is a Selke Trophy finalist for the fifth consecutive season; he captured the award in 2012, 2014 and 2015 and finished second in voting in Ryan Kesler, Anaheim Ducks Kesler helped the Ducks record the lowest team goals-against average in the NHL (2.29) for the first time in franchise history. He ranked second among NHL leaders in face-off win percentage (58.5%), winning at least 50% of his draws in 58 of 79 games. He led all players in both defensive-zone face-off wins (441) and shorthanded face-off wins (168) and ranked third among all NHL forwards in shorthanded ice time (217:29) as the Ducks penalty killers posted the League s top percentage (87.2%). In addition, he tied for the lead among all NHL forwards in blocked shots (92) and dished out a team-leading 168 hits. Kesler was a Selke Trophy finalist each season from with Vancouver, climbing in voting from third to second to first place in successive years. Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings Kopitar led all NHL forwards in total ice time (1,690:12), an average of 20:52 per game, on the club that ranked third in the NHL in team defense, allowing an average of 2.34 goals a contest. He ranked fifth and seventh League-wide in total faceoffs and face-off wins with 1,776 and 950, respectively, setting career highs in both categories. He placed second in the NHL in plus/minus (+34) and was the League s third-ranked forward in the team puck possession metric SAT (shot attempts differential), as the Kings registered 332 more shot attempts than they allowed when Kopitar was on the ice while each team had five skaters per side.
