Quinnipiac # Mount St. Mary s Sacred Heart PROVIDENCE St. Joseph s Canisius Marist Manhattan Siena Wagner 0-9 # - Clinched regular-season title HOW THEY GOT HERE... The Friars clinched the fourth and final MAAC playoff spot with a 13-2 victory over Siena in the final regular-season contest of the season on Tuesday, May 1 in Providence, R.I. Providence and St. Joseph s University each finished MAAC play with a 5-4 conference record, but the Friars earn the invitation to the Championship by virtue of an 8-7 head-to-head MAAC win over the Hawks on Sunday, April 8. In that game, St. Joseph s held a 7-5 advantage going into the fourth quarter, but the Friars scored three unanswered goals in the fourth to take the 8-7 come-from-behind victory. VERSUS QUINNIPIAC... Today s game marks the fifth meeting between Providence and Quinnipiac, with the all-time series knotted at 2-2. The Braves won the most recent meeting between the two squads, 11-7, on Saturday, March 24 in Hamden, Conn. Last year, the Friars pulled out a 10-9 overtime victory over the Braves in Providence, R.I. In 1999 Quinnipiac earned a win, and in 1998 the Friars won the first-ever meeting between the two teams, HIGHEST FINISH...Providence has cracked the top-four in the MAAC for the first time in it s six-year membership with the Conference. The Friars are making their first appearance at the MAAC Championships. Under current Head Coach Chris Burdick, the Friars have posted a sixth-place finish (1999) and a fifth-place finish (2000). NO PLACE LIKE HOME... Providence posted a perfect 6-0 mark at home this season. The 6-0 mark stands as the best home record in men s lacrosse history at Providence College. The 1985 Friars went 5-0 at home and 10-2 overall under Head Coach, Steve O Donnell. The 1987 and 1988 teams went 5-1 at home. The Friars attained their 6-0 home record with a 13-2 win over Siena on Tuesday, May 1 in the Friars final regular-season game of the year. The team was not so fortunate on the road this season, posting a record of 1-8, including a 0-1 mark on neutral fields. The team s only road win came at Marist on Saturday, April 21. The Friars defeated the Red Foxes, 9-5. HEAD COACH CHRIS BURDICK... Chris Burdick is currently in his third season as head coach of the Friars. Burdick posted records of 5-10 in each of his first two seasons, and earned a sixth and fifth-place finish in the MAAC. His career record to date stands at overall, in conference play. He has made notable improvements each year in the MAAC. In his first season (1999) the Friars posted a 2-6 record (6th place). The following year, the team went 4-5 (5th place). This season, the team finished fourth overall with a 5-4 mark, earning their first-ever invitation to the MAAC Championships. His seven victories this season is the most he has earned in his three years at Providence College. FOUR-MAN ATTACK LEADS FRIARS... Four Friars have been exceptional for the team on the offensive end this season. Junior transfer Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) leads the Friars in scoring with 47 points on eight goals and

2 a team leading 39 assists. He is closely followed by sophomore Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.), who has a team-leading 29 goals to go along with 17 assists for 46 points. Junior Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) is second in goals with 28, and third on the team overall in scoring with 36 points. Senior Jim Dooley (Maplewood, N.J.) rounds out the top-four offensive threats with 30 points on 16 goals and 14 assists. FRIAR FIRSTS... The Friars are making their first-ever post-season appearance in the 21-year history of the program, as the fourth seed in the MAAC Championships. The Friars also posted an unprecedented 6-0 record at home this season. The 1985 Friars registered a 5-0 record, while the 1987 and 1988 teams went 5-1. OJAKIAN AND FARLEY RANKED NATIONALLY... Junior transfer Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) is first on the team in scoring this season with 47 points on eight goals and a team-leading 39 assists. He ranks first in the nation in assists per game, with 2.77, according to the latest NCAA statistical report. He set a PC record for single-season assists with 39. The mark was reached in a 13-2 win over Siena College, in the final regular-season game on May 1. The previous record of 38 was set in 1988 by Jack Crowley. Teammate, and John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) stepped into a starting role this season as a junior, and is currently ranked 18th among the nation s goalkeepers with a.593 save percentage. In MAAC action, he ranks second in save percentage (.605) and goals-against average (9.29). OSTAPOFF GIVES TEAM A FACE LIFT... Freshman Roland Ostapoff (West Hartford, Conn.) missed the first 10 games of the season, but has become the primary face-off player over the last five games of the season. The Friars have increased their team face-off percentage from.363 to.407 with his added presence. In five games, Ostapoff has won 31 of his 65 face-off opportunities, for a team-leading face-off percentage of.477. Ryan s face-off percentage ranks second on the team at.446, while Brady ranks third at.390. PC RANKS 10TH IN THE NATION IN EXTRAMAN SCORING AND PENALTY KILLING... The Friars are ranked 10th among NCAA Division I institutions in both extraman scoring and penalty killing. Providence has connected on 30 of it s 82 extraman opportunities, while stopping it s opponent 69 times in 89 man-down situations (20 goals allowed). VERSUS SECOND-SEED MOUNT ST. MARY S... The Friars fell to Mount St. Mary s 16-4 on March 7 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Mount St. Mary s leads the all-time series, 5-1. The Friars earned their only win over the Mountaineers in 1996, Since then, the Mountaineers have earned five-straight wins. Mount St. Mary s is one of two schools, the other being Manhattan, that Head Coach Chris Burdick has defeat in the MAAC action during his three years at Providence. Burdick has guided the Friars to at least one win against the remaining seven schools in the MAAC. VERSUS THIRD-SEED SACRED HEART... The Friars fell to Sacred Heart 13-7 on May 28 in Fairfield, Conn. The game was tied 2-2 at the end of the first quarter before the Pioneers blanked the Friars, 7-0, in the second quarter to take a 9-2 lead into halftime. The Pioneers outscored the Friars in the third quarter, 2-1, to take an 11-3 advantage, before Providence rallied to take the fourth quarter, 4-2, and end the game The all-time series is tied at 1-1. The Friars beat the Pioneers 10-9, in overtime last year in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
