I am extremely proud of these four breeders. They have taken their programs to new heights and the quality abound with performance and genetics. This point is evident by their recent success at various futurities and sales. The sale again will offer a pick of flushes out of some of the Breeds top donors. You will be able to pick a flush of three pregnancies out of Sugar Pie, the dam of Ace in the Hole, Cathy, the Cavalier daughter out of Cathy Lee, Oasis 11, the full sister to the great Oasis cow, Marissa, the Ace in the Hole daughter that produced the $13,000 Bullet Proof heifer at the President s Council Sale, Satin Lady, the Cavalier daughter out of Silk Stockings, and Miss South Texas, the Spartacus daughter out of the full sister to Synergy. You will get two heifers and one bull from which ever donor you pick. What a great opportunity! A pick semen lot will be offered from top Herdsires and will be on display at the sale. The semen will be offered for sale day only at $50.00 per unit. You can mix and match with a five unit minimum on any one bull. This semen offer will not carry over after the sale, so place your order now! The bulls are Ace in the Hole, Bullet Proof, Dallas, Gameday and Rio Grande. Mackie and Norma Jean Bounds have been breeding Beefmasters for ten years. With their purchase of the BBU Breader of the Year herd from Terry and Faye Schell they have propelled their program to one of the top. Bullet Proof, Gameday and Rio Grande have been selected to use on the herd for separate and individual reasons. You will see and like the results. Ronnie and Betsey Martin have been breeding Beefmasters for about thirty years. They had a master plan to use Herdsires that would produce a feminine female with that extra fancy and fertility. Houston, Havana and Sgt. Pepper have excelled this program to where it is today. They will offer their entire heifer crop from Rick Seeker has been breeding Beefmasters for over twenty years. He has, from the very beginning, put an empahsis on muscle and performance. He was well before his time and what was important to him at the start is on all of our chores to do now. You will see the evidence of this in his cattle visually and on the performance of his cattle. His selection of Herdsires such as Conan, Scarlet s Pride and ZZ Top only enhanced his performance numbers. JC Thompson is now a full time Rancher since he sold his Ford Dealership. He runs large numbers and his primary source of income is now his cattle. He takes his business serious and has a background in accounting. I guarantee you a bean counter is going to look at the bottom line. His cattle have to pay their rent or they are evicted. He has identified the donors and herdsires that make him money. We have seen this recently in his prowess at futurites and sales. Good job JC! Ace in the Hole, Rio Grande and Dallas prove their ability to pay the bills. Isn t that what is most important? My daughter and I will sell some of our cattle with partners Mike Savage and Terry Schell. We have tried to identify the most efficient of our cattle and propagate from there. Some of these cattle are what I kept after I sold the rest. They are good cattle that will make a Cowman money! The Jazz Man bull will be a top addition to any herd. His ability to produce show quality cattle is tremendous. If you produce and sell show calves, this is the Herdsire for you. His dam and sire, in my opionion, are two of the best ever produced. A Beefmaster is a product of the original Bos Indicus/Bos Taurus combination which was selected for functional, reproductive and production efficiency as explained in the six point plan by Tom Lasater. The six point plan entails the following: Fertility: From an economical viewpoint this is the most important trait for selection. A heifer must breed as soon as possible and must suckle a calf every year under natural feeding conditions. If not, she must be culled immediately. Bulls must also be kept under the same circumstances and must have the ability and libido to perform and to mate with the cows. Disposition: Good natured cattle tend to breed earlier, are easier and cheaper to handle and have a better growth rate. This will result in a higher income. This principle is believed to be valid under both natural and feedlot conditions. Weights: Animals with a heavier mass and greater growth rate kept under the same circumstances as the others, are animals which will make the breeder a greater profit. Beefmasters have been subjected to performance testing for more than 50 years and it is still a prerequisite for breeding Beefmasters. Conformation: Lasater claimed that condition is the result of functionality: Bulls must be well muscled, cows must be feminine and produce small calves at birth. Ease of calving is very important. Hardiness: Hardy animals have the ability to stay healthy and productive under various farming and climatic conditions. This means smaller losses and higher profits. Milk production: A cow must have enough milk to produce a weaner with a good body mass, despite the nutritional conditions under which the cow and calf were kept. The Beefmaster breed was, and still is being bred and developed around these six essential requirements. The Beefmaster is currently the fastest growing breed in America. Throughout Beefmaster's history the aim has always been to produce meat. The best cattle produce a high quality meat at the lowest cost. The value of the Beefmaster bloodline is precious because it continuously produces more meat at a lower cost. They are selected for the fact that they are a profit making breed.

We all put a lot of thought and time in our breeding programs. All of us are committed to excellence. Normally we at 4M Ranch reserve a few heifers to keep for our own herd. Not this year. We have consigned our entire spring heifer crop. Two of them will stay at home as they are too young to put in a sale. We like this heifer crop a lot and hope you will too. The History of Beefmaster Cattle Beefmaster cattle have been developed by the Lasater Ranch then headquartered in Texas. The breeding program leading to their establishment was started by Ed C. Lasater in 1908, when he purchased Brahman bulls to use on his commercial herd of Hereford and Shorthorn cattle. The first of these bulls that he used were principally of Gir breeding, although some of the Nelore breed were also used. In 1925 he introduced Guzerat blood into the herd. Mr. Lasater also developed a registered Hereford herd in which the cattle had red circles around each eye. In both his Brahman and Hereford breeding, milk production was stressed. Following his death in 1930, the breeding operations came under the direction of his son, Tom Lasater, who began to combine the breeding of the Brahman and Hereford cattle and also used some registered Shorthorn bulls. After a systematic crossing of Brahman-Hereford and Brahman-Shorthorn, he felt a superior animal had been produced and called the cattle "Beefmaster." The exact pedigree of the foundation cattle was not known. The breeding operations were carried on in multiple-sire herds and rigid culling was practiced. The cattle were handled under range conditions that were often adverse, and a culling program was started based on disposition, fertility, weight, conformation, hardiness and milk production. Stress was placed on the production of beef. No selection has been made to characteristics that do not affect the carcass, such as horns, hide or color. His purpose was to develop cattle that were more productive than existing breeds; cattle that would produce and make money during economically hard times in the harsh environment of South Texas. The new breed was developed on what has become known as the Six Essentials - Weight, Conformation, Milking Ability, Fertility, Hardiness and Disposition. These essentials became the economic strength of Beefmasters and have made them favorites with those who depend on cattle for a living. Beefmasters are the only beef breed specifically developed to excel in these important economic traits. Genetically, Beefmasters are half English - 25% each of Hereford and Shorthorn - and half Brahman. While brownish-red is the most common color, the breed has no color standards. Beefmasters were recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a pure breed in Since the early 1970s, when the breed began rapid expansion from its South Texas birthplace, Beefmasters have survived several wrecks in the cattle market without adversely affecting their growth and demand. From 1974 to 1998, membership in Beefmaster Breeders United (BBU) grew from 300 to nearly 7,000. BBU, which was founded in 1961, is the fifth largest beef breed registry in the United States in membership and sixth in registrations.

21 Dear Beefmaster Friends and Guests, It is again with great anticipation and pleasure that we invite you to our second production sale. We have been hard at work since last year to improve and prepare this sale and we hope that it will surprise and delight. This year we are holding true to what we started last year in bringing the best from the very heart of our breeding program. We offer seven (7) Dallas daughters some out of our donor battery, four (4) Ace in the Hole daughters, and twelve (12) daughters out of our donors. These will be highlighted by four (4) Sugar Pie daughters (dam to Ace in the Hole) from three different matings. Ace in the Hole offspring have had a tremendous year on the show circuit. From JBBA to the Open Haltered Show in Houston last month. Both sons and daughters alike have been at the top of each class they have competed in and have advanced to reserve and grand champions. The National Beefmaster Bull Championship in Tunica this year was out of an Ace daughter owned by the Emmons and the reserve Champion was an Ace son. An Ace son was the Grand Champion at the Houston Futurity and Classic Sale. Dallas just keeps on stamping out his impression on females and bull calves. The length of neck, square hip, clean front-ends, clean underlines, overall body length and straight tops are so consistent in his progeny; you can just pick them out in a pasture full of babies. One of his daughters won the National Miss Beefmaster American Futurity Be looking for more Rio Grande calves in the future, they are coming and they are really good.
