1 April 5, 2017 Registration Deadline April 26, 2017 Dear 4-H Horse Camp Participants and Parents: Alpena County 4-H Horse Camp is upon us and the Horse Developmental Committee has been working extremely hard to prepare for this year s camp. We are extremely excited about having a new format this year. Camp will start with check in on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the horse barn running from 5:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m. Before unloading your horse, you will have to check in with the barn supervisor and present your current negative Coggins Test. After your horse is settled, take your personal belongings to the Merchants Building. Girls will be stationed on one side and boys on the other. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a safety orientation meeting in the Merchant s Building (this means parent(s) and/or guardian) to fill you in on camp activities and answer any questions you may have. FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED FOR CAMPERS AND RESOURCE LEADERS ONLY. Also included are snacks and fresh fruit and beverages. If possible, we are asking each family to bring one dozen cookies, brownies or other snack. The items your 4-H er should bring to camp are: warm clothes, rain gear, SEI approved helmet, personal items (including soap, towels and washcloths), enthusiasm, sleeping bag, cot or air mattress, pillow, blanket, comfortable riding attire, proper footwear (boots), a smile, sun screen, swimming suit and towel, feed for your horse, clean up equipment (wheelbarrow and shovel), brushes and any riding gear necessary for your session. ITEMS THAT ARE NOT NECESSARY for horse camp include: radios, CD players, video games, alarm clocks and all portable electronics. PLEASE leave these items at home. We have a no electronics policy at camp however, designated time will be permitted for cell phone use. (We highly encourage no cell phones, but will waive this policy upon approval between parent and HDC) A Portable saddle rack is helpful if you have one and a comfortable pair of shoes for when you are not riding and wearing boots. 4-H Horse Camp will end at Noon on Sunday, May 14, Please be prompt in picking up your 4-H er. All participants are responsible for cleaning their horse stall and any tack stalls if available. Your Horse Developmental Committee Leaders feel it is important to expose your Horses to many different obstacles in a safe environment. You will learn to first move you re Horse through situations in-hand (or on the ground) then move to these same obstacles on horseback. 4 Horse Camp Rules 1. No abusive treatment of animals. 2. No riding double or backwards. 3. No unsportsmanlike conduct. 4. During horse camp, horses are to be led to and from sessions. 5. No riding or sitting on horses in the barn. 6. No bare feet. 7. During horse camp you must stay with your group. 8. No leaving the Merchant s Building area without permission. 9. No leaving the Alpena County Fairgrounds with or without parent without HDC Member s permission. Sign-out signature is required. 10. No nursing mares or stallions allowed. 11. Regulation helmets will be worn for all sessions. If there is any disturbance or misconduct, parents will be called and 4-H er will be asked to leave 4-H Member Signature Parent Signature A Code of Conduct/Media/Medical Release Form is Required If you are already enrolled in 4-H, the medical form is on file at the MSUE office. If you are not a 4-H member, you will be required to fill out this form along with a 4-H application at the MSUE office. (Please have your medical insurance information available)

I understand that my child (name of event) (name of child) On (date of event) will be attending at and that he or she may be sharing lodging (location of event) with an unrelated adult chaperone (21 or older) who has been through the Michigan State University Extension Child Well-Being Volunteer Selection Process* and with at least one other youth. I also understand the Michigan 4-H Code of Conduct** expectations for adults and youth attending this event. Participants are expected to follow all workshop and event guidelines. Theft, vandalism, the use of illegal drugs and alcohol, inappropriate or threatening behavior that violates the rights of others, and other such offenses are strictly prohibited, and anyone involved with these offenses will immediately be sent home at his or her own expense. If it is determined by 4-H staff or persons in charge of the activity that the offense warrants it, the offender will be turned over to the proper authorities.
