3 4-H Art Poster Contest Results There were 171 posters entered at the local level. Three posters were selected and entered at the region level. Those posters belong to Carsyn Smith, Kirra Seals and Anna Grace Williams. 4 4-H Mane Attraction Horse Club competes at Eastern Region Hippology and Horse Bowl Club members competed at the 2019 Eastern Region 4-H Hippology and Horse Bowl contests at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Brooklyn McCorkle placed in the top 10, bringing home the 9th place individual honors in junior high Hippology. The junior high team of Brooklyn McCorkle, Austin Moore, Ayla Luna and Enrique Perez placed 5th in the region. This same team placed 3rd in the Horse Bowl. They will compete at the state contest in February. Other members competing at the region include: Jon Ford, Daniela Ford, Zoe Travis and Jacob Presley. 5 4-H Archery Club The 4-H Archery Club is practicing and preparing for the Tennessee 4-H Archery Jamboree to be held in the spring. At the February meeting the poster winners were announced. Volunteer coaches are doing a great job teaching youth the skills they need to be successful. 4-H Archery Coaches needed There is a need for additional 4-H Archery Coaches. If you are interested you need to attend the state 4-H Shooting Sports training. The next session will be held March 15-16, York 4-H Center (this is a two day training and overnight). If interested in registering or learning more, call the Extension office for a registration form,

6 4-H Chick Chain Friday, February 22nd is the deadline to register for the H Chick Chain. Cost is $36 and the 4-H youth will receive 12 baby chicks to raise. The youth will also bring three to the Hamilton County Fair in September. 4-H Congress Congratulations to Desha Wilkins. She will be attending the 72nd Tennessee 4-H Congress, March 17-20, 2019, Nashville, TN. She will have the opportunity to serve as a Senator and represent Hamilton County at the state event. She will learn more about state government during this premier 4-H Citizenship event. National Cornbread Festival National Cornbread Cook-off for 4 th graders Reminder - The first place prize is $500 cash along with special gifts from Lodge Cast Iron and Martha White. Recipe entry deadline is March 1, Go to for more information (see the section 4-H Cook-off). The competition will take place April 28, 2019.

7 2019 Piggy Bank Pageant Piggy Bank Pageant This pageant is part of the Tennessee Saves Program. Rules and guidelines Bank should be made by the youth Bank should not exceed 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches (anything larger will not be eligible to compete at the next level (county contest)) There should be a way to both put money in and get money out of the bank Bank should be sturdy enough for transport On an index card or paper print: name, phone number, school, grade, savings goal (amount you would like to save per month) Deadline is: March 4-H Club meeting or March 29, 2019, 4:00 p.m., to Extension office Categories (six different groups): Pre-K 1 st Grade 4 th Grade 6 th 8 th Grade 2 nd 3 rd Grade 5 th Grade 9 th 12 th Grade (This contest is open to younger youth)

8 4-H Horse Enrollment due March 1st The 4-H Horse Enrollment Forms are due to the Extension office by March 1, These forms are used to enroll each horse that a 4-H youth plans to show in any 4-H show at any level. Both the 4-H youth and parent should sign each form. 4-H scholarship deadline March 1st Seniors and other eligible 4-H Alumni may submit their scholarship application online before March 1st. You can go to the site below and see the list of scholarships and eligibility requirements. Note these must be reviewed by the agent prior to the deadline. Go to the Scholarship link Extension Month Photo Contest Now through March 27th you can enter up to 5 photos in this photo contest. You can find the categories and guidelines on the county website. This contest has a youth division for 4th 12th graders and an adult division. So, enter your photos and be part of March Extension Month. Pictured are the 2018 Peoples Choice photos.

9 4-H Citizenship Club - New Club for 2019 The club members enjoyed learning about traditions and celebrations from different counties at their December meeting. For more information, contact the UT/TSU Extension office at or club volunteer leader Maria Sabin at onwiththedance@gmail.com or The Hamilton County 4-H Citizenship Club is a new club offering all of the 4-H favorites, including public speaking, piggy bank pageant and 4-H art poster contest. The 4-H Citizenship Club is open to all Hamilton County students in grades 4-12 at no charge. Club meetings are held at the Extension office at 6183 Adamson Circle, Chattanooga, TN on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Each club meeting will include group games, as well as learning about our state and country. Club members will also do service projects that they choose in our community. 10 H Summer Camp Schedule There are many opportunities for you to attend camp in the summer. We have overnight camps and day camps available. Below are the overnight camps offered. If a 4-H Scholarship is needed, contact the Extension office. Check out the coming 4-H Updates for more information. Junior 4-H Camp: May 27-31, Austin 4-H Center, Greeneville, TN Junior High 4-H Camp: July 8-12, Austin 4-H Center Fashion and Design Conference, June 4-6, Sevierville, TN Now taking payment for the 4 spaces Hamilton County will have approximately 4 spaces for this camp. Those who are registered first will have the available spaces. There will be a waiting list established. This camp usually fills up within a few days. 4-H Academic Conference: June 11-14, UTK campus 4-H Electric Camp: June 25-28, UTK campus Quilting Camp: July 9-11, Austin 4-H Center 4-H Target SMART Camp: October 3-6, Ridley 4-H Center (New date)
