Club Managers, leaders and Parents are invited to attend the Booster Club meeting which is held at the same time as Council. These meetings are open to all of our 4-H members and parents. 2 Camps, Contests & Information We wanted to let you know about TWO awesome opportunities for 4H Clubs! Capital Farm Credit Community Outreach Grant Program In 2018, Capital Farm Credit is unveiling a brand new Community Outreach Grant Program. The program will provide grants to Texas FFA chapters and 4-H clubs that have developed a project to better their community. The grant will range from $500-$1000; dependent on the proposed budget of the chapter. Funds will be awarded to assist club and chapter members in bringing positive change by establishing projects that make local communities better places to live. The applications for Community Outreach Grants are available at: Grant-Program-Application.pdf. The deadline for applications is March 1, All applications should be ed to grants@capitalfarmcredit.com. If you have questions regarding this grant program please contact grants@capitalfarmcredit.com What Agriculture Means to Me Video Contest Each year, to celebrate Ag Day, Capital Farm Credit holds a contest for high school aged 4-H and FFA in Texas. Students create a 30 second video to tell us What Agriculture Means to Me and uploads the video link to enter. The video that receives the most online votes wins that high school student a scholarship, and their 4-H or FFA Chapter will also receive a donation. *First Place Student: $2,500 & their chapter receives $1,500 *Second Place Student: $1,500 & their chapter receives $1,000 *Third Place Student: $1,000 & their chapter receives $500 *Corporate Selection: $1,000 & their chapter receives $500 (This is a new category this year. We will have a panel of judges to identify a video based on effectiveness of message and quality of video.) Students can begin creating their video at any time, but they will not be able to upload or start receiving votes until February 1, The contest ends on Ag Day, March 20, Stay tuned for a link to upload videos. Texas 4-H & Youth Development Program Opportunity Scholarships are academic scholarships awarded each year to applicants based on their academic record, 4-H experience, and financial need (for scholarships for which it is a required criterion). Approximately 225 academically-competitive scholarships will be awarded ranging in amounts from $1,000 to $20,000. No scholarship recipient whose award is based on this application process will receive less than $1,000. Full applications and their instructions are available online at: Page 2

4 Livestock News There are clippers (goat/lamb/swine/ beef) available for check-out in the County Office for use in preparing your livestock projects for show. Simply call the Office ( ) ahead of time to reserve them on the day you will need them. Be sure and stop by the County Show concession stand and pick up your stainless steel insulated cup for only $20! (All proceeds will benefit the 4-H Booster Club) Page 4

6 Livestock News SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Set-up Night All 4-H members are responsible for setting up the Youth Fair at the White Building on Friday, January, 4 at 4:00 p.m. It won t take long! After you get done there, you can set up your stalls in the livestock barn. Concession Stand Be sure to find out when your 4-H club is assigned to work the concession stand. All money raised in the concession stand during the county show benefits the Johnson County 4-H Booster Club who in turn pays for camps and contests for 4-H members. Sale Day Don t forget to come support the Johnson County 4-H Washington, D.C. Group on Saturday, January 13 before the premium auction. The meal will be served at the Cleburne Conference Center starting at 11 a.m. Clean-up Night All 4-H members are responsible for helping clean up the barn and arena on Monday, January, 15. We will be there until the job is done. Attention Youth Fair Exhibitors: Pay close attention to the rules for Youth Fair entries. If you are entering a Baked or Canned Good-- all entries must be accompanied by the recipe typed in black ink on 1-side of a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of plain white printer paper with no clip art, colored ink or added decorations. 7 Horse News The Youth Horse Show is an all breed youth horse show with classes for registered and unregistered horses. Any registered breed may show in the all breed classes, while any unregistered horse is eligible to compete in the grade horse classes. Exhibitors are ages 18 and under.
