4 INSURANCE The exhibitor/participant, at his or her own cost, shall procure and maintain in full force and effect during the time of this Agreement, a Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance policy or other insurance form acceptable to Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba management with a combined single limit of not less than TWO MILLION DOLLARS ($2,000, CAD) for bodily injury or death and for property damage. The insurance policy must have a policy territory which includes Canada, and be underwritten by an insurer acceptable to the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba (generally AM Best rating of B+ or higher). The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba must be added as an additional insured on the exhibitor s insurance policy: Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba th Street Brandon, MB R7A 4E7 Insurance coverage meeting the above requirements must be maintained during the period of Sunday, March 25, 2018 to Sunday, April 1, This insurance is designed to protect the attending general public, other exhibitors/participants, the fair organizers as well as yourself against possible lawsuits arising from your participation at our event. Exhibitors/Participants who have not provided proof of sufficient coverage will not be allowed to move-in, participate and/or set up until the insurance certificate has been provided to the Provincial Exhibition management. If you already have Commercial General Liability Insurance in place and the Provincial Exhibition has been added as an additional insured, please provide the Provincial Exhibition with a certificate of insurance, this can be obtained from your insurance provider. 6 1. All General Rules and Regulations apply. COMMERCIAL CATTLE RULES 2. COMMERCIAL SALE (Market Steer Class/Boys and Girls Calf Feeding): ALL ANIMALS MUST BE SHOWN TO SELL and, all animals shown must sell. Failure to do so will result in disqualification and a one-year ban from RMWF Steer Show. 3. Sale commission on live animals sold will be 5%. Note: 2.5% will be used for sales promotion and advertising. Any animals passed are charged sales commission on the highest bid. Commission to be paid within 30 days following the show. 4. All Steers will be classified as grades. 5. Steer entries may be limited and be selected on first come basis. 6. Fat cattle must be sold in public auction after being weighed by the show committee. Should the entry warrant, the show committee has the right to restrict the number of head offered for auction; Purchasers may remove their animals at the close of the sale, with the exceptions of Champions or such other animals designated by the committee. Other conditions may be announced at the start of the sale. 7. The total number of animals to be stalled must be stated on the entry forms. 8. A culling committee will inspect all cattle. Animals culled will be removed from the premises immediately. 9. Steers with horns over 1 in length will be denied entry. 10. All winners of first and second prize must compete, if eligible, for the Championship in their respective classes or they shall forfeit their prize money. 11. The breed, name of the animal and sire must appear on the entry form or the exhibitor will not be eligible for special awards. Special awards are paid direct from the associations. 12. All exhibitors must have been the bona fide owner of the animal for 90 days prior to the show. Should the show committee in conjunction and by a majority-vote there of, believe that the period of ownership rule is broken the person in question may be excused or barred from showing or receiving prizes. All exhibitors and interested people are invited to help enforce this rule, in interest of a fair and just show. 13. Hay and shavings will be available for purchase on site. A bark mulch base will be provided. 14. Aisles and passages ways are to be kept clean and clear at all times. Manure should be removed to the designated area daily (area TBA at the show). 15. All animals must be halter broken. Failure to have animals halter broke will result in a $25 fine per animal and possible dismissal. 5
7 16. Animals are not to be tied out until 6:00 pm and must be back in the barns by 9:00 am daily. 17. Tie-out space and Straw will be provided 18. All entries accompanied by fees, must be made payable to the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba by the entry closing date of February 28 th, Receipts will not be printed unless requested. 20. Any complaints are to be submitted to the Show Office (addressed to the RMWF Cattle Show Committee) in writing along with a $50 fee within two hours. 21. The barns will be closed at 10pm each night. No one will be allowed access to the barns after 10pm. 22. Exhibitors are to specify who they would like to be stabled with on entry form. Steers and heifers may be stabled together. **All sale steers are to be stabled in designated area by 4pm Friday, March 30 th. ** 23. No animals shall be left in the barn after the release time of 7:30pm on Saturday, March 31 st. 24. Health Requirements For show only a. Canadian Livestock No tests or health certificates are required. DISEASED ANIMALS In the interest of maintaining a high standard of animal health, all livestock are subject to inspection following delivery through the period of the show by veterinarians employed by the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba. Animals found to have a contagious disease must be treated in the barn under the supervision of the official veterinarian. If conditions are found to be of serious nature, the owner may be required to remove the animal from the premises. 6
8 AUCTION OF LIVE STEERS Animals awarded the Grand Championship and Reserve Grand Championship prizes shall be sold by public auction. 1. Animals that have not been shown in classes they are entered in will not be eligible for sale. 2. All animals will be weighed at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair by the show committee Thursday March 29 th at 5:00 pm. All sale steers are to be stabled in designated area by 9 am on Wednesday, March 28 th. 3. Official class weight will be established at a time specified by the show committee. 4. Proceeds of the sale will be collected by the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba and remitted to the owners, less any amount due to the Exhibition. 5. Animals will be entirely at the risk of the purchaser as soon as the auctioneer declares the sale lot SOLD. Exhibitors wishing to exhibit animals at other fairs after the sale must make arrangements by negotiation with the purchaser. The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba will assume no responsibility for such arrangements. ALL ANIMALS ENTERED IN CLASSES 2 & 4 MUST BE PUT THROUGH THE LIVESALE Friday March 30 th. CLASS CS2 MARKET STEER SHOW ENTRY FEE: STALL FEE: $25 plus GST $60/head plus GST 1. No more than a total of 2 entries per production unit will be allowed in the single Market Steer Class 2. Only two prize monies will be awarded to an Exhibitor in any one class. 2. Judging of the classes will be based on live placing. 3. It is imperative that the breed of animals be entered on the entry form in order to be eligible for breed specials. 4. All steers must be halter broke. 5. All steers will be weighed on Thursday March 29 th at 5:00 p.m. in the barns and this will be the official show and sale weight. Any cattle arriving after 12 pm (noon) will automatically be deducted 4% off their weight no exceptions to this rule 6. The class will be split at 10 entries in accordance to the number of entries. 7. Steers will enter the show ring in order of weight. : show. $ New exhibitors are anyone who has not shown at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair in the last five years. One steer free entry fee if you bring a new exhibitor to the steer 7
9 SPECIALS FOR THE MARKET STEER SHOW The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba and the Steer Show Committee would like to thank the following sponsors: MANITOBA ANGUS ASSOCIATION: Offers $100 to the Exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market steer, providing they are a 50% Angus animal, declared at the time of making the entry. CANADIAN CHAROLAIS ASSOCIATION: Offers the following prizes in the live Market Steer Class, providing the Champion and/or Reserve Champion is sired by a registered or recorded Charolais Bull. If 10 or more in the class Champion $500 Res. Champion $250. MANITOBA SIMMENTAL ASSOCIATION: Offers $250 to the Grand Champion Live Market Steer provided the animal is sired by a Registered Simmental Bull and is declared at the time of entry. CANADIAN SHORTHORN ASSOCIATION: Offers $500 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Steer, and $250 to the exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion. These awards are made provided the steers are 50% or more Shorthorns breeding, declared at the time of entry. MANITOBA MAINE ANJOU ASSOCIATION: Offers $100 to the Exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market steer and $50 to the Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer, providing they are sired by a Purebred Maine Anjou bull that was declared at the time of making the entry. Note: All the specials sponsored by the Manitoba Breed Associations are open to Manitoba Exhibitors only, and steers must be bred in Manitoba and owned by the exhibitors. Decision of the Breed Representatives is final. 8
10 ENTRY FEE: $5 plus GST STALL FEE: $60/head plus GST RULES 1. Entrants must show steers born 2017 CLASS CS3 JUNIOR PROSPECT STEER SHOW 2. Entries to be made on the regular cattle entry form with name of calf, breed, and date of birth of animal and exhibitor. 3. All Steers will be weighed on Thursday March 28 th at 5:00 p.m. This will be the official show weight. 4. Exhibitors must be neatly and appropriately dressed when entering the ring. : $100 $75 $50 for all other placings ENTRY FEE: STALL FEE: : $ $25/head plus GST $60/head plus GST CLASS CS4 BOYS AND GIRLS CALF FEEDING COMPETITION RULES 1. All General Rules and Regulations apply to this class. 2. Steers entered in this class will not be permitted to show in the single open classes, however, the first and second place prize winners will compete for the Junior Champion of the show. 3. Open to Manitoba youth who have reached their 9 th birthday but not their 20 th birthday as of Jan. 1 st of Competitors must have fed, cared for and fitted his or her animal for at least 3 months prior to the date of the exhibition. He/she must exhibit the animal in the show ring when judged, and must take exclusive charge of the calf during the show. 5. Upon making entry, the name, address, and date of birth of competitor must be submitted with the entry of the animals date of birth and breed. 9
11 6. Any exhibitor who is a member of a 4-H club is subject to the general rules governing 4-H club members. 4-H club members must feed an extra calf for this competition and will not be permitted to enter their club calf being fed for their local show. 7. It is important and necessary for the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba and the cattle industry of Manitoba as a whole that young people are encouraged to become interested in the showing and displaying beef cattle. Over the years, the boys and girls calf feeding competition has been a means of me encouraging this. Unfortunately, there is reason to believe that some of the rules, especially those pertaining to the period of ownership are being circumvented. Should the executive and the cattle committee in conjunction and by majority vote thereof, believe that the period of ownership rule is being broken, the person in question may be excused or barred from showing or receiving prizes. All exhibitors and interested people are invited to help with the enforcement of this rule. 8. Blood samples to determine parentage may be drawn where deemed necessary. 9. Calves to be born after October 1 st, All steers must be weighed on Thursday March 29 th at 5:00 pm. SPECIALS FOR CLASS CS4 MANITOBA ANGUS ASSOCIATION: Offers $ to the Exhibitor of the Junior Grand Champion steer, providing they are a 50% Angus animal, declared at the time of making the entry. MANITOBA HEREFORD ASSOCIATION: Offers $80.00 for the five highest standing calves sired by a registered Hereford Bull which must be of 50% Hereford Parentage winning in the Boys and Girls Calf Feeding Competition to be divided as follows: 1 st - $ nd - $ rd - $ th -$ th-$12.00 These prizes will be awarded only to exhibitors whose calves stand in the top seven placing. In addition, special prizes of $50.00 for first place and $25.00 for second place will be awarded if they are 50% registered Hereford parentage and show definite Hereford color and markings. MANITOBA HEREFORD ASSOCIATION: Offers $ to the exhibitor of the Junior Grand Champion Steer, provided the animal is 50% registered Hereford parentage. The Hereford Association reserves the right to conduct blood tests on entries breed. MANITOBA MAINE ANJOU ASSOCIATION: Offers $ to the exhibitor of the Junior Grand Champion Steer and $50.00 to the Junior Reserve Grand Champion Steer, providing they are sired by a Purebred Maine Anjou Bull, declared at the time of making the entry. 10
12 ENTRY FEE: $5 plus GST ENTRY DEADLINE: February 28 th, 2018 (NO ENTRIES ACCEPTED AT SHOW) CLASS CS5 DONN MITCHELL MEMORIAL SHOWMANSHIP SPONSORED BY KLONDIKE FARMS LTD, DOUGLAS, MB Open to youth who have not reached their 21 st birthday as of January 1 st, 2017, showing in the Steer Shows and the All Breeds Heifer Shows. Each contestant must show his or her own calf. : $ WILL BE PAID FOR EACH AGE DIVISION CLASSES WILL BE SPLIT INTO JUNIOR, INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR FOR JUDGING PLAQUES for first place in each division and a Champion Show person Trophy will be awarded. There will also be a scholarship awarded for further education or agricultural courses. ENTRIES CLOSE FEBRUARY 28 th, 2018 ALL BREED PUREBRED JUNIOR HEIFER SHOW All heifers must be on grounds Wednesday March 28 th, 2018 at 9:00 am. Barns are open Sunday if exhibitors want to come early. Release Time: Saturday March 31 st, 2018 at 7:00 pm ENTRY FEE: STALL FEE: $5/head plus GST $60/head plus GST GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Open to animals from Canada 2. Entrants limited to one (1) entry per breed. 3. Heifers must be born after January 1 st, All exhibitors are expected to compete in the Showmanship Class. 5. Animals must be registered within your breed in the name of the junior or his/her parent/guardian or bred and raised on the family farms (registered by closing date of the entry). 6. An Award will be presented to Champion heifer of each Breed and a Reserve Ribbon. 7. Individual Breed rules will apply. NOTE: Junior exhibitors interested in showing, whose breed is not represented, please contact the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba. 11
