1 Calgary Stampede, Ride 'em Cowboy! Go! The Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada seeks to preserve and promote western heritage and values. Its 2008 celebration was held July 4-13, The Great Stampede was born in 1912, called "Frontier Days and Cowboy Championship Contest." We've gathered some photography from this year's Stampede rodeo events. It looks wild and fun.the Stampede is much more than rodeos, with agricultural shows, evening shows, a Midway, music shows and parades. Calgary, of course, is in the Canadian province of Alberta, is Alberta's largest city, and is Canada's third largest city, with just over a million residents. It is not the province's capital; Edmonton is. The Great Stampede was born in 1912, called "Frontier Days and Cowboy Championship Contest." It quickly came to be known as the Calgary Stampede. The second Stampede was held in 1919, after WWI, and was called the "Victory Stampede." In 1923, the Stampede began including chuck wagon racing and expanded to include all kinds of community events. As I read the history, it then became an annual affair. It has been expanding ever since. This is a big event. We've gathered some photography from this year's Stampede. It looks wild and fun. Two things first. We commend the Calgary Stampede Web Site to you. It has ton of great information and a tremendous photo gallery. We've borrowed just a few photos from it. Second, we'll only show you photos from the rodeo events. The Stampede is much more than that, with agricultural shows, evening shows, a Midway, music shows and parades.
