2 OBJECTIVES OF CLUB WORK The objectives of 4-H club work are to provide an opportunity for you as a club member to learn by doing, to acquire habits of healthful living, and to obtain information and direction in the intelligent use of your leisure time. Your associations in 4-H club work should arouse in you worthy ambitions for a fuller and richer life and enable you to take a more effective place in the social and economic life of your community. Through this project you should develop a greater love for livestock, experience ownership responsibilities, enjoy the thrill of competition, and develop leadership qualities and desirable traits of character. SUGGESTIONS TO DAIRY CLUB MEMBERS 1. Study carefully this record book and keep your records up-to-date at all times and submit it to your Extension Agent at end of project year. 2. Show this record book to your mother and father so that they will understand what you are doing in your 4-H dairy work. 3. Attend all your club meetings and take part in every meeting, particularly the business session. If you miss a demonstration you miss some valuable instruction that will not only help you to be a good dairy club member but also a good cattle breeder. 4. Ask questions of your local leader or. Extension Agent at any time. 5. If you start with purebred animals be sure the animals are registered and transferred.in your name as soon as possible. 6. Show some of your animals at your local show each year. Show day is the most important day of the year. You will learn the most at your dairy show. 7. Be proud of yourself, your project, 4-H, and American agriculture. Take advantage of its opportunities. Best wishes to you. WHO SHOULD USE THIS BOOK This record book is designed for all 4-H members who expect to have 4 or more dairy animals of any age by the end of the project year. (Example: If a 4-H'er owns 2 calves at beginning of project year and does not purchase more animals, he will at the end of the year expect to have only 2 animals. He should use Record Book 59. If a 4-H'er has a cow, bred heifer and a calf, he will expect one or two calves for a total of 4 or 5 animals at the end of the year. He should use Record Book 66. If he has more than 10 animals he should use 2 copies of Record Book 66.)
