3 WELCOme Thank you for participating in the 4-H District 10 Horse Show. There are a lot of caring and dedicated volunteer 4-H Horse Leaders who have worked hard all year to provide this great event for 4-H and FFA youth across the state. Close to 60 classes will be offered in this fun filled three day show. We will be awarding buckles for All-Around and prizes for Division High Point. Prizes will be awarded after the conclusion of each division. The Delta County 4-H Program is very pleased to host this year s show at the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss in the best part of the summer. Horse stalls and camping will be available. Showers for riders and wash racks for your horses are available. Concessions will also be provided. The District 10 Horse Show committee was organized sole to plan and manage the annual 4-H District 10 Horse Show. Volunteer 4-H leaders from the Delta and Montrose Horse Leaders Council, Gunnison County 4-H Horse Committee, and San Miguel and Mesa County 4-H Horse Programs promote the development of horsemanship skills and equine knowledge through the state standardized 4-H Levels Program. 4-H leaders offer educational opportunities through out the year to members and other leaders. They serve on and with other 4-H Councils (County and State), Extension Advisory and County Fair Boards, FFA Chapters, and local and state horse associations. 5 Entries: entries & fees Must be postmarked by June 10. All fees must accompany entries. Must include signature of contestant and parent. $10.00 late fee will be collected for any entry after June postmark. No phone entries accepted. Horse Show Fees: $7.00 a class One time $25.00 cattle fee required for classes $15.00 a night pen fee $10.00 office fee Camping sites: Overnight camping is allowed. 20 camping spaces with electrical hook ups are available for a donation of $6.00 per day. 6 rules 2018 The current Colorado 4-H Horse Show Rule Book will govern the show with the exceptions of the following rules: 1. Classes will be divided into the following age divisions Jr. (8-10), Int. (11-13), Sr. (14-18), and Novice (8-18). The Novice class is designed for first year 4-H members and all classes will be walk/trot. Contestants will participate in the same division for the entirety of the show. 2. High Point and Reserve High Point Awards will be given in each age division (Jr., Int., Sr., and Novice). 3. To be eligible for Overall High Point and Reserve High Point for each division contestants must show in at least three classes in each division. (A Novice participant must show in two classes in English, Western, and Working Ranch Horse.) Showmanship is only counted in the All Around awards. 4. Trail and Working Ranch Trail will be judged by a separate judge and run concurrently. Both must be done in western tack and attire. 5. We encourage members to enter only classes they are competent in. This is not a training clinic nor a Levels certified show. The following classes are advanced and participants should be prepared: Hunter Hack, Western Riding, Western Reining, and all Working Ranch and Gymkhana classes. Judges will excuse contestants that they feel are not considered safe. 6. Once the order of draw is drawn and the exhibitor s number has been called, the exhibitor must appear in this order in the time specified by the officials. The exhibitor will be given a one-minute gate call in which to appear at the in-gate. Failure to do so will disqualify the exhibitor from that class. The only exception will be if the exhibitor is on course at the Trail arena. In-gate official must be notified during their one-minute gate call. 7. The show management reserves the right to combine or cancel classes due to insufficient entries. Contestants will be notified prior to the start of the first class of any changes. 4

7 rules, cont Individual Cow Horse classes will include the following: Sr. box, fence, and circle or rope with a 3 min. time limit; Int. box for 50 sec., down the fence once, stop straight after the middle cone and before the last cone; and Jr. box only for 50 sec. The judge has the ability of stopping cow work at any time (whistling off). 9. Only contestants and show management may be in the show arenas at any time with horses with the exception of turn back riders during the cutting class on ranch horse day. Non-exhibitor turn back riders may not ride horses that are being exhibited that day and must be dressed as per the rules governing exhibitors. Exhibitors may turn back on the horses they are showing. 10. Tie Breakers for each division and All Around awards will be as follows: All Around Showmanship; English Hunt Seat Equitation; Western Western Horsemanship; Ranch Horse Ranch Cutting; and, Gymkhana Barrels. District 10 Horse Show emphasizes the following rules: 11. Contestants will be disqualified and excused from the grounds for any unsportsmanlike conduct or abusive action to a horse at the discretion of the show management. All fees and awards will be forfeited. 12. Under no circumstances may any exhibitor, parent, leader or spectator badger, insult or be argumentative with the judge, show secretary, ring steward or show management. Any flagrant display of poor sportsmanship or affront to the judge or ring steward by or on behalf of the exhibitor, may result in the exclusion of the exhibitor from competition and forfeiture of awards and/or expulsion from the show grounds for the person and/or exhibitor. All fees and awards will be forfeited. 13. Disclaimer: It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to pay for and remove any animal injured or killed by the exhibitor as determined by the judge and/or show manager. The owner of the livestock shall determine the price of these animal(s). 5

11 Points How are points determined? Points are given to each exhibitor that ribbons in a class. If class then points are given by If there are not 6 entries in the there are 6 or more entries the number of riders. For example, points are awarded like this: if there were only 3 riders in a 1st = 6 points class the points would be awarded like this: 2nd = 5 points 1st = 3 points 3rd = 4 points 2nd = 2 points 4th = 3 points 3rd = 1 point 5th = 2 points 6th = 1 point Each age division will receive the following High Point Awards: High Point and Reserve English High Point and Reserve Western High Point and Reserve Working Ranch Horse High Point and Reserve Gymkhana Qualifications for the High Point Awards: Only points from the classes in each specific division count. awards 9 Qualifications for the All Around Awards: Points from any of the classes in all divisions count. All Around Novice must compete (not just enter) in 2 classes in the English, Western, and Ranch Horse. Junior, Intermediate, and Senior must compete (not just enter) in 3 classes in all the divisions. Showmanship points (optional) will go only towards the All Around Awards.
