1 Our 90 th Anniversary and Summer Ball On Saturday 12 th of June 2010, the Club is celebrating its 90 th anniversary in style by holding a Summer Ball in a full marquee at Timsons lane. Further tickets have been released at 40, if you are interested please contact Denise Randall on deniserandall@live.co.uk. Would you please note there is limited parking in the main car park and none near the club house. Please ensure you arrive early to pre order your wine. Pre-evening drinks will be served from 5.30pm. With rugby international, Jason Leonard 3 bars - Live band Disco Magicians - Bucking bronco- Hog roast and more...it s going to be a great night. To celebrate the 90 th anniversary of the club, there are limited editions of the club tie and pin badges on sale at the bar or from Rob Evans. The New Clubhouse Extension By the time of the Summer Ball, our new clubhouse extension will be built, comprising two additional changing rooms, a physio room, toilets and social area upstairs. This will finish the current building programme, which started in 2005/2006 with the new clubhouse. The Clubhouse now comprises six changing rooms, toilets, physio room together with an additional office/room downstairs plus our wonderful bar and social areas on the first floor. This was our objective in 2006 but we were unable to achieve it at the time due to a lack of funds. We are very lucky to have found the additional finance, which has been mainly due to a few Vice Presidents and individual club members plus a very generous grant from the RFU. We owe a big thank you to all the individuals who have contributed. Can we now please look after our Clubhouse, which must be among the best in Essex if not East Anglia. It is important that members show respect for the facilities we have worked so hard to build as well as the pride that will deservedly make Chelmsford RFC and its members respected in Essex and beyond.

2 The official opening of the extension will be at the start of the new season in September and further information about this will follow. Robin Smylie: Chairman of the Development and Fundraising Committee Membership Subscriptions At our AGM last month, members passed the special resolution to create a class of membership that includes a donation. The advantage of this new membership is that there will be no increase in your subscription but part of the subscription you currently pay will become a voluntary donation on which the Club can claim Gift Aid. On that part of your payment that is a donation, the Club will claim a further 28p from the government. To implement this change, you will only need to sign a form whereby you agree to pay the donation and confirm that you pay UK tax. I will post this form to you in the next couple of weeks and I would ask you to return it as soon as possible as the Club will start to benefit immediately you do. 3 RHINO U12s debut at Twickenham A tremendous effort by the lads playing their CUP Semi Final on the hallowed turf of Twickenham A great day was had by over 100 players and spectators from Chelmsford RFC who went to support the Rhinos in their Cup Semi Final against Banbury. With only 8 minutes of warm up time allowed on the pitch before playing the semi, the Rhinos were up against Banbury who had topped their pool at Nottingham and had narrowly lost in the Cup Final at Twickenham last year. Despite their smaller size Banbury were well disciplined and competed better in the scrums and rucks putting the Rhinos on the back foot for most of the first half. At half time with Banbury ahead by one try there was everything to play for. The Rhinos defended well but were unable to stop another Banbury try. Finally, the Rhinos were spurred into action and they started to dominate and gain territory, securing several penalties in the process that brought them to within metres of the try line. Josh was tackled a few metres from the try line with seconds to go but managed to offload to Harry P in support who was within inches of scoring before the Banbury defence stepped in. Unfortunately for Harry P, his efforts resulted in a broken arm. There can't be many lads that can boast a broken arm, on their birthday and playing at Twickenham! The final score was 2 tries to 0, and thus Banbury went through to face Ampthill in the final which ended in a 0-0 draw.

4 Following the Youth games, we were treated to a fantastic Guinness Premiership Final (Leicester v Saracens) and at half time Chelmsford Rhinos paraded around the pitch carrying the Harlequins banner alongside other Champions from the Land Rover Premiership Cup carrying other Premiership banners. Playing at Twickenham was a fitting end to what can only be described as an amazingly successful season for the Chelmsford U12s Rhinos. Well done to everyone who has contributed to their success, the coaching staff, club officials and all our spectators who have supported the team come rain or shine. Our best wishes go to Harry P for a speedy recovery! ROLL ON NEXT YEAR! Dr Debra M. Lillington Chelmsford RFC Player update: Joe Ridley Joe was part of Graham Venn's highly successful Youth side, which won the Essex Cup at U15 and U16. Joe represented Essex at all age groups from U14 to U18 and was a member of the Essex National 10's squad at U15. Joe also represented Baddow School, who were Essex Cup winners at U15. At the end of their U15 season, the then Chelmsford first team player Owen Lawrence introduced Joe and the squad to Rugby League. Owen, who

5 previously played League for London Broncos Academy, put Joe and a number of others forward for open trials at Harlequins RL and Joe with three other Chelmsford lads were selected for the Quins RL U16 Foundation Academy. The other lads were Tristan Olive, Steve Carr and Jimmy Tabram. At the end of his U16 season, Joe was asked to stay on and train with the Quins RL U18 Academy and was offered a 2 year part time professional contract. He played 2 years for the U18 Academy side in the Academy version of Super League representing Quins against the likes of St Helens at Knowlsey Road, Salford City Reds at the Willows and Bradford Bulls at Odsal. In his second year at U18, the coaching staff voted Joe the Academy Player of the Year, receiving his award at the end of season Club Dinner at the Hurlingham Club in London. Joe then signed for a further 2 years and now plays for the Quins RL U20 side in the U20 Academy competition. Joe is combining his time at Quins with his studies at St Mary's University in Twickenham where he is about to complete his first year studying for a degree in Sports Science. Described by Quins as a powerful centre, Joe is 100% committed to his sport and wants to make the break through into the Quins RL first team squad over the next 12 months. We wish him well for the future. Kidder Cheema Chelmsford Senior Rugby Pre-season training starts on Tuesday 22 nd June at 7.30pm. All senior players, colts and U17s are requested to turn up at 7.00pm to register and provide contact details (mobile no. and address) and log onto and join the Club website. Parents of minis and youth are also being encouraged to do this in order to stay up to date with events training and fixtures for the coming season. Eddie Gooby Senior Ladies Rugby Recently, the ladies held their annual awards night, which gave the squad an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of several players during the past season. The award winners were: Kerrie Moss (back of the year), Jenny Kenway (forward of the year), Lianne Lawrence (unsung hero), Vick Blanks (best newcomer), and Charlotte Wardell (players player).
