We have been honored, and gifted, and surprised, and celebrated. We have eaten too much, enjoyed surprise gifts, and smelled the flowers of appreciation. We, in turn, want to say, THANK YOU to our wonderful PTF officers and the many parents who contributed to the daily recognition. Many district businesses pitched in as well, and we are truly grateful for their support Many of us received personal notes and messages from families, parents and our kids. Handmade cards, scribbled notes, drawings they all made our day. Imagine what it does to look up at your bulletin board/desk every day and see: You are the best Principal ever you help our school be better you are amazing at your job have a Nice Day I will smile every day for a long time as that note sees me out the door to my daily work. Please come inside to retrieve your child. Everyone should enter and exit through the school s main entrance. As usual, all school rules apply including the dress code. Students not able to follow the code of honor will be asked to sit out and take a break. Excessive behavior issues (running, climbing, being too physical or out of control) will warrant a call for pickup. Adults wishing to stay must be on the school s approved volunteer list. 6 Health Office Newsle.er May 6, Mouthguards Imagine what it would be like if you suddenly lost one or two of your front teeth. Smiling, talking, ea9ng everything would suddenly be affected. Mouthguards, also called mouth protectors, help cushion a blow to the face, minimizing the risk of broken teeth and injuries to your lips, tongue, face or jaw. They typically cover the upper teeth and are a great way to protect the soc 9ssues of your tongue, lips and cheek lining. Knowing how to prevent injuries like these is especially important if you par9cipate in organized sports or other recrea9onal ac9vi9es. When it comes to protec9ng your mouth, a mouthguard is an essen9al piece of athle9c gear that should be part of your standard equipment from an early age. In fact, studies show that athletes are 60 9mes more likely to suffer harm to the teeth if they re not wearing a mouthguard. While collision and contact sports, such as boxing, are higher-risk sports for the mouth, you can experience a dental injury in non-contact ac9vi9es too, such as gymnas9cs and ska9ng. There are three types of mouthguards: * Custom-fiPed. These are made by your den9st for you. They are more expensive than the other versions, but because they are customized, usually offer the best fit. * Stock. These are inexpensive and come pre-formed, ready to wear. Unfortunately, they ocen don t fit very well. They can be bulky and can make breathing and talking difficult. * Boil and bite. These mouth protectors can be bought at many spor9ng goods stores and drugstores and may offer a beper fit than stock mouth protectors. They are first socened in water (boiled), then inserted and allowed to adapt to the shape of your mouth. The best mouthguard is one that has been custom made for your mouth by your den9st. However, if you can t afford a custom-fiped mouthguard, you should s9ll wear a stock mouthguard or a boil-and-bite mouthguard from the drugstore. If you wear braces or another fixed dental appliance on your lower jaw, your den9st may suggest a mouth protector for these teeth as well. A properly fiped mouthguard may be especially important for people who wear braces or have fixed bridgework. A blow to the face could damage the brackets or other fixed orthodon9c appliances. A mouthguard also provides a barrier between the braces and your cheek or lips, limi9ng the risk of soc 9ssue injuries. Talk to your den9st or orthodon9st about selec9ng a mouthguard that will provide the best protec9on. Although mouthguards typically only cover the upper teeth, your den9st or orthodon9st may suggest that you use a mouthguard on the lower teeth if you have braces on these teeth too. If you have a retainer or other removable appliance, do not wear it during any contact sports. Some 9ps for caring for your mouthguard: * Rinse before and acer each use or brush with a toothbrush and toothpaste * Occasionally clean the mouthguard in cool, soapy water and rinse thoroughly * Transport the mouthguard in a sturdy container that has vents * Never leave the mouthguard in the sun or in hot water * Check for wear and tear to see if it needs replacing
