Only members of a club affiliated to the SAOF and who have been resident in South Africa for six months will be eligible for Championship trophies/medals (as per SAOF competition rule 4.1). GOC Standards Below 4.2. Participation on the championship courses at the South African National Championships and Provincial Championships is open to paid up members of a Member Club and paid up members of other IOF Member organisations In lieu of point 4.2 all competitors that are South African Citizens or Residents, competing on the Championship courses at the above mentioned events, are eligible for trophies and medals. The one exception is visiting (overseas) orienteers or recent arrivals in South Africa (less than 3 months) who may compete on championship courses, but who are not eligible for trophies/medals. Terrain The terrain is mature very open wattle forest plantation, with interspersed areas of indigenous forest and rough open areas. The terrain has mostly moderate to steep slopes covering most of the map. Runnability and visibility is very good in most places. Embargoed Areas: Hilton College grounds. Climate: The average daytime/night time temperatures in July are 19 C / 6 C respectively and the average rainfall is 5mm. The weather is very changeable and mist is common. Hazards: There are no dangerous animals in the competition area, although competitors may encounter various species of buck, jackals and other small animals. Snakes (including venomous ones) are found in the area but they will usually get out of the runners way. No incidents have been reported due to snakes in similar areas used for Orienteering in South Africa.

Visa Requirements: Most visitors to South Africa are not required to obtain visas in advance. For further information visit Accommodation: Hilton/Howick has plenty of guest houses and self-catering accommodation. 4 However, training opportunities can be made available to overseas competitors in Johannesburg / Pretoria in the week prior to the event. Please contact the organisers for further details. Transport: No official transport will be offered. Overseas competitors are advised to hire a car from one of the recognised car hire companies: Competition clothing: There is no restriction on competition clothing.
