1 Rule 168.2: Hurdle Races The maximum horizontal deflection of the top bar of a hurdle (including any deflection of the uprights) when subject to a centrally applied force equal to the weight of 10kg shall not exceed 35 mm. Rule 168.7: Hurdle Races Deleted: (b) jumps any hurdle not in his own lane (The possible situations are covered by other Rules.) Rule : Relay Races INTERPRETATION Field Events During the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, a relay team was disqualified because the exchange of the baton began before the baton was inside the changeover zone, even though the baton was not solely in the hand of the outgoing runner until it was completely inside the zone. The Jury of Appeal upheld the decision of the referee in this regard. Although there was a widely held difference of opinion as to whether this was the correct interpretation of Rule , it is now clear, as a result of the Jury s decision, that this should now be the way in which the rule should be interpreted. Rule 180.5: General Conditions - Trials Note (i) deleted: In competitions under Rules 1.1(d) to (j), the competing order for the last three rounds may be in the reverse order of the ranking recorded after the first three trials. (180.5 (a) is applicable to all 1.1 competitions) Rule 180.5: General Conditions - Trials New Note (i): If one or more athlete(s) is permitted by the Referee to continue in a competition under protest in accordance with Rule 146.4(b), such athletes shall compete in subsequent rounds before all other continuing in the competition and if more than one, in the same relative order according to the original draw.

Rule : General Conditions - Ties Except in Vertical Jumps, in the case of a tie for any place, including first place, the tie shall remain. Rule (c): Vertical Jumps Ties (Placings) If the tie concerns the first place: A jump-off is conducted (see new Rule 181.9), unless otherwise decided (by the Technical Regulations or by the Technical Delegate or the Referee) If no jump-off is carried out, including where the relevant athletes at any stage decide not to jump further, the tie for first place shall remain. Rule new: Vertical Jumps - Ties Rule : Vertical Jumps Pole Vault Jump-off Same as now, plus: If an athlete is not jumping at a height he automatically forfeits any claim to the first place. If only one other athlete then remains he is declared the winner regardless of whether he clears that height. Vaulting Poles The pole may have protective layers of tape at the grip and of tape and/or any other suitable material at the bottom end.

3 Rule (f): Horizontal Jumps An athlete fails if: (f) when leaving the landing area, his first contact by foot with the ground outside the landing area is closer to the take-off line than the nearest break made in the sand on landing, (To be in accordance with the wording in ) Rule interim: Throwing Events - Assistance If taping is used on the hands and fingers, it may be continuous provided that as a result no two or more fingers are taped together in such a way that the fingers cannot move individually. Points (d) to (g) deleted. (See also Rule 144.2) Rule (c) Throwing Events - Assistance In order to obtain a better grip: In the Shot Put and Discus Throw, athletes may place chalk or a similar substance on the implement. Rule (b): Throwing Events Javelin Throw Trials Should an athlete be behind the 4m line line and inside the runway at the moment the implement touches the ground, he shall also be considered to have left the runway correctly. Rule 188.2: Throwing Events Shot Put Rule 191.7: Throwing Events Hammer Throw The Stop Board The board s inner surface shall align with the inner edge of the rim of the circle and shall be perpendicular to the surface of the circle. The handle shall have a symmetric design and may have a curved or straight grip and/or brace with a maximum length inside of 110mm.

4 Indoor Competitions Rule 211.3: The Indoor Stadium Indoor tracks to be covered with a synthetic surface able to accept 6mm spikes. Wooden surfaces are no longer permissible. Rule 213.2: The Oval Track and Lanes Rule 213.3: The Oval Track and Lanes Lanes The nominal width of the lanes shall be between 0.90m and 1.10m including the lane line on the right. All lanes shall be of the same width with a tolerance of +/-0.01m to the selected nominal width. Banking The straight may be flat or have a maximum lateral inclination of 1:100 towards the inside lane. Rule 214.6: Start and Finish on Oval Track Conduct of the Races Race Walking In races of 800m, each athlete may be assigned a separate lane, or up to two athletes may be assigned per lane.

5 Rule (a) (b): Chief Judge Rule (e) - Disqualification Competitions 1.1(a), (b), (c), (d) and (f): In competitions, where no hand held computer devices are used, the Chief Judge, immediately after the end of the event, shall report to the Referee the identification of all athletes disqualified under Rule 230.3(a) or 230.6(a), indicating the identification of the athlete, the time of the notification and the offences; the same shall be done for all the athletes who received red cards. Disqualification by the Chief Judge: The athlete shall be notified by the Chief Judge or a Chief Judge s Assistant by showing the athlete a red paddle at the earliest opportunity after the athlete has finished the race. (Two or more Chief Judge's Assistants shall be appointed!) Rule 230.7: The Start Rule (a) and (b): Drinking / Sponging and Refreshment Stations In races which include a large number of athletes, five-minute, three-minute and one-minute warnings before the start of the race should be given. At drinking / sponging stations water only may be provided New note: Mist stations may also be arranged when considered appropriate under certain organisational and/or climatic conditions. 6 Rule 240.6: The Start Rule new (e): Drinking / Sponging and Refreshment Stations The races shall be started by the firing of a gun, canon, air horn or like device. Authorised persons may hand the refreshment to the athlete either from behind, or from a position no more than one metre in front or to the side of, the table. Before the start, in races which include a large number of athletes, five-minute, three-minute and oneminute warnings before the start of the race should be given. World Records They may not enter the course nor obstruct any athlete. Rule : General Conditions Records made in heats or qualifying competitions, in deciding ties, in any event which is subsequently decreed void under the provisions of Rule and Rules 146.4(a) and (b), may be submitted for ratification. Rule (b): Specific Conditions For races up to and including 800m, only performances timed by an approved Fully Automatic Photo Finish System conforming to the relevant sections of Rule 165 shall be accepted. Rule 260.7: Specific Conditions For World Records in Combined Events: The average wind velocity (based on the algebraic sum of the wind velocities, as measured for each individual event, divided by the number of such events) shall not exceed plus 2 metres per second.

7 Rule (e): Specific Conditions General For World Records in Road Running Events: There have also been a range of editorial changes. For example all references throughout the text to gun or approved starting apparatus have been changed to gun. This is not intended to mean that other starting apparatus may no longer be approved or used. The change is simply to delete unnecessary repetition of text that is obvious or implied by an initial reference. The course must be verified (i.e. re-measured) as late as possible before the race, on the day of the race or as soon as practical after the race Thank You! Also round of trials is now used in the case of field events to clearly distinguish from qualifying round/final as rounds in the competition.
