2 What is the Scotiabank Charity Challenge? Introduced 9 years ago at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, the Charity Challenge allows multiple charities to piggy-back on the 2013 Mississauga Marathon without having to organize their own fundraising event. Furthermore, this program provides a free, online pledge/fundraising platform to participating, approved Charity Partners. The charities simply recruit their runners (who pay an entry fee to the race that goes to the Mississauga Marathon to cover costs of staging the event) and focus all their efforts on recruiting fundraisers to participate in the event. The charities then get to keep all of the pledge dollars raised for their cause with ZERO processing fees. The concept allows our event to promote a healthy lifestyle while providing a fundraising platform for SO many more charities that support our community. The Challenge An opportunity for all charity partners to win one of three cash prizes. Each runner/walker must raise at least $20.00 in pledges to be counted and a charity must have a minimum of 10 fundraisers to qualify. Categories are as follows: 1) The charity with the most participants (in any combination of events). Prize: $2,000 2) The charity with the largest amount of pledges (total dollars raised). Prize: $2,000. 3) The charity that raises the largest amount of pledge dollars per participant. Prize $2,000. IMPORTANT RULES Fundraising totals and awards will be based on standings at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, June 5 th, All offline fundraising reports MUST be submitted by this time. No charity can win more than one award. In the event that a charity should win in more than one category, they will be awarded the prize for the category in which they have the widest margin of victory; the second place finisher(s) in the affected category/categories will the win the other award(s). Although charities may fundraise as a team, each individual must meet the minimum $20.00 fundraising objective.

Cheering Stations and entertainment from local bands along the route are sure to keep your fundraisers motivated. An opportunity to gain exposure for your cause. Water, Gatorade and First Aid stations every 2KM along the route.
4 After the Race Unique finishers medal for ALL participants in all seven events! A great post-run party/reunion area with complimentary food and refreshments provided for race participants, free post-race massages, race results available onsite, live music from local bands and various sponsor tents to browse while waiting for loved ones and watching the awards ceremony. Family Reunion Area A designated alpha meeting area to re-group with your family, friends and fundraisers. 5 Note: This registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Entry fees must be used towards the 2013 Mississauga Marathon. Ex. 1: The first person to raise $300 for our charity will win a free entry to the 2013 Mississauga Marathon. Ex. 2: The first 10 to contact us to sign up to run for our charity will receive a free entry into the 2013 Mississauga Marathon. By paying a $ registration fee, you show that your charity is committed to recruiting at least 10 runners to help you achieve your fundraising goal. This registration fee is a small investment compared to the costs associated with organizing and implementing your own fundraising event. How many free entries will your $ registration fee provide? 10 free entries into the Marathon Regular rates: $70.00 to $ per participant (plus HST) Charity rate: $70.00 per fundraiser (HST included) OR 11 free entries into the Half Marathon Regular rates: $60.00 to $95.00 per participant (plus HST) Charity rate: $60.00 per fundraiser (HST included) OR 17 free entries into the 10K Regular rates: $40.00 to $75.00 per participant (plus HST) Charity rate: $40.00 per fundraiser (HST included) OR 20 free entries into the The Hazel 5K Regular rates: $35.00 to $65.00 per participant (plus HST) Charity rate: $35.00 per fundraiser (HST included) Note: Or any combination of the above adding up to $ Other Requirements All fundraisers are responsible for their own race kit pick up which MUST be claimed during the Runner s Expo. The 2013 Mississauga Marathon Runner s Expo will take place on Friday, May 3 rd from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, May 4 th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The location is yet to be determined. There will be NO RACE DAY pick up. Race Kit pick up for the 10K and The Hazel 5K participants will end at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 4 th.
6 An Opportunity for Additional Exposure on Race Day Each year we require the assistance of over 1,500 volunteers to execute a well organized, fun-filled race weekend! We encourage people of all ages to volunteer for the Ninth Annual Mississauga Marathon. We are always looking for course marshal volunteers to make sure everything is running smoothly along the route. On Saturday, May 4 th the shift is from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and on Sunday, May 5 th we will require course marshals from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. All runners will be wearing a personalized bib with their name on it so volunteers are encouraged to cheer them on by name as they pass your assigned location. To sign up as a volunteer, please visit: Frequently Asked Questions What about my fundraisers who are paying for their own race entries? Participants that do not qualify for a free entry based on the incentives you choose will still receive a discounted rate of $70.00 in the Marathon, $60.00 in the Half Marathon and $40.00 in the 10K and $35.00 in The Hazel 5K events. What is the deadline for registering my charity? All interested charity partners must submit their registration form found on the last page before Wednesday, October 31 st, This will allow us time to setup your Scotiabank Charity Challenge information page on the Mississauga Marathon website, as well as set up your free online fundraising page. Do I need to know the names of all fundraisers before I register? No, you can add individual runners online up until 11:59 PM on Wednesday, May 1 st, 2013 or in person at the Runner s Expo (May 3 rd and 4 th ) during race weekend. Remember, the earlier you get out and recruit, the earlier your runners can start fundraising for your cause! Are there any other costs associated with this event aside from the $ registration fee? No. We provide a great world-class event with zero risk to you and Scotiabank s partnership provides free online fundraising for all charity challenge fundraisers. Your charity receives 100% of the funds raised through Artez Interactive.
7 How to Become a Successful Charity Use your network to encourage participation in the 2013 Mississauga Marathon and Scotiabank Charity Challenge. Recruit celebrities, corporations, supporters, groups and individuals to run of your behalf. Build a great incentive program. It takes countless hours of training to complete a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K, not to mention the commitment to raise funds for a charity. Reward their hard work! Offer incentive prizes to your top fundraisers. Get creative! Offer a Grand Prize for your top charity fundraisers or supporters. Remember this is your fundraising event! Again, be creative.
