3 Pembroke Joint messages from the Mayors of Swieqi & Pembroke Swieqi For the 23rd consecutive year, the Pembroke Athleta Sports Club, Athletics and Triathlon section shall once again be organizing its yearly display of sport, health, and physical well- being The Pembroke/Swieqi Road Races. The Pembroke Local Council is as proud as ever to support this great endeavour, which has kept the Club motivated throughout all these years. It is truly a remarkable achievement that this event has reached the 23rd consecutive landmark, with record attendance and wide participation from residents who simply want to challenge themselves, to professional athletes aspiring to achieve higher targets in this event. This is truly the essence of what makes On 31st March the Athleta Pembroke Athletics & Triathlon Club shall be organising the 23rd edition of the Pembroke/Swieqi road races. The fact that Athleta Pembroke shall be organising this event for the 23rd consecutive year proves how hardworking and dedicated the members of this club are. They work tirelessly year in year out to organise what I consider as one of the biggest and best organised family sport events on the Island! People from all over the Island and from all walks of life participate in this sporting event. this event so dear in our calendar the spirit of inclusiveness in sport. I personally welcome this activity with open arms and encourage our residents to take part in their large numbers. Last but definitely not least, a massive thank you to all the volunteers at the club who keep the metaphorical torch lit year after year. On behalf our residents, thank you for your contribution towards a healthy community. I am very proud of the fact that Swieqi is involved in this sporting event and I sincerely encourage Swieqi residents to participate in one of the several events/ runs that are being organised. 5 Prizes The 10 km AtoZ electronics Road Race is open to any individual over 18 years of age. The 5 km Vee Gee Bee Art is open to any individual over 16 years of age. Eligibility & Awards A medal, a participation Certificate and a GOODY BAG containing a T-shirt and other token items to all finishers. Shield & Trophies for Schools/Clubs The 3 km Attrans race is open to Cadets born in (2004 and 2005). The largest group entry will be awarded a shield that is to be kept for one year whereas each school with 35 participants or more will receive a trophy. Memento for Corporate Companies The 3 km Fontana races are open to Youths born (2002 and 2003). The 1.2 km Nesquik FUN RUNS are open to ALL irrespective of age. A commemorative memento will be given to each group of 10 participants taking part in any of the road events. The 7 km Walkaton is open for any individual over 16 years of age. Awards 10 km Race Trophies 1st six Males and 1st six Females (first three of each gender also receive 60, 45 and 35 respectively) 1st Male and 1st Female members of the Club Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon 1st Male and 1st Female finishers resident in Pembroke and the same applies for Swieqi residents, all to show a Maltese Id. 8 Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club Founder Member Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon forms part of a multidiscipline sports club based at Pembroke Athleta Sports Club in Tunis road Pembroke. Athletics is the QUEEN of sports. Athletics events include jumps, throws, sprints, hurdles and endurance events on track and road. Triathlon events include swimming, cycle and running, all endurance disciplines. Pembroke Athleta nursery are celebrating last year open athletics day at St. Theresa Secondary school Mriehel. Congratulations go to the Ladies and Men s teams who won the MAAA T&F club league Last January 2017, the Ladies road running team won the 5km M scala road relay. Well done athletes and coaches! Founder Member The Pembroke Football Nursery section boosts more than 250 young promising players coached by a team of dedicated football coaches. PFC makes use of the Pembroke Athleta Club premises at the Pembroke grounds. Mr. Alex Calleja is the club President and Mr. Alfred Debono ( ) is the club Treasurer. Associated club members These are the official club competition kits and tracksuits. The Roma Club Malta (RCM) was founded on 1st February 1973 and it is the oldest Roma Club to have been founded outside Italian territory. RMC is headed by its President Mr. Ray Sant ( ). There are around 200 members affiliated to RMC. The Pembroke Karate Club has been open since Michelle Vella ( ) is the club manager and Frankie Vella is the chief instructor. The club is currently has 95 members practicing the sports of karate. The club organises competitions, seminars, and wellbeing courses like nutrition, relaxation and living a healthy life. The Greens Cycle Club was founded by Charles Sammut and Etienne Bonello ( Team Greens maintains its presence in the local racing scene, boasting of 25 Malta National Championship Titles as well as over two hundred race victories. The club regularly organises fishing competitions for the double and single based fishing rod categories.
