I completed the Spartan Super race in the age group category. It was a fun race and I only missed 3 obstacles; it was about 8 & ½ miles with about 20 obstacles, and I belonged to 50+ age group. I wish they would have gone every 5 years for the results as a lot can happen when you are racing against people 15 years younger than you. I fi nished 33 rd in the 50+ group. Jeff & Cindy Stetzel entered in the open category and did both the Super race and the Sprint race on the next day. For 2 days he did around 14 miles and around 40 obstacles, which are very diffi cult to do. Congrats to both. Paul Kraus did the age group Spartan Sprint race, which was around 5 miles with 21 obstacles. He ranked 6 th in the 50+ group. Congrats to him also. I have been told the obstacle course racing is one of the fastest growing event right now, so if you get a chance try one, maybe get a team together and do it as a team. That way, you can tell if you want to try to do solo. -- Bob Beede San Jose Super & Sprint Weekend SatSun, Mar. 2425, 2018 Diable Grande, California Super Open OvPl Name G/age Time AgeGrp Bib# 865 Jeff Stetzel M45 3:19: Cindy Stetzel F41 3:19: Sprint Open OvPl Name G/age Time AgeGrp Bib# 638 Jeff Stetzel M45 1:50: Cindy Stetzel F41 1:50: Super Age Group OvPl Name G/age Time AgeGrp Bib# 493 Bob Beede M65 3:08: Sprint Age Group OvPl Name G/age Time AgeGrp Bib# 120 Paul Kraus M57 1:16: SRRC 3

Paul helped me get the equipment from the shed and set everything up. Jorge and Adam got up early and did a great job marking the course and putting the ha ha ha in fl our on the biggest hill. Paul, Lanore, Yoshi and Bob did a great job cheering on the runners and making sure the runners went the right way. Once again, Bob and Gayle did a great job with their water stops; they even gave a struggling runner a ride to the fi nish. Richard, Cindy, and Mary Ann did a great job at registration. Gary, Rachel, Shelbie, Andrew and Leslie were very effi cient with the fi nish line. Holly manned the fi nish line food table and made sure there were some cookies left for the 5.5 mile runners. Yoon took pictures of everyone, typed out all the results, and posted them to the website in his usual speedy fashion. Lanore and Karen swept the course wiping out all the markers. Finally I want to say a special thank-you to my wife, Karen for also baking cookies for the runners, muffi ns for the volunteers, managing the money and numerous other little things. Thanks again to all the volunteers; I couldn t do this without you! See you next year! 4 SRRC

9 11:00 am, Sat., Apr. 21, 2018 Master's Race 10K by "Bob Thompson" The 2018 Clam Beach Master s Race took place Saturday, April 21 st under clear sunny skies, but very windy conditions. Thirty-six runners participated this year with ages ranging from 81 to 41. The big news in the men s race was that perennial champion John Zinselmeir was hurt and didn t run. Long-time local standout Matt Creason won the race in his fi rst try followed by Loren Cannon and Jeff Haag. In the women s race, the fi rst three women fi nished second, third and fourth overall with Tami Beall winning 2 nd straight year, followed by Robyn Petrusha and Lanore Bergenske. Due to a timing error on my part, about half the real time stats are inaccurate. A means your time is a bit off! Sorry!! The order of fi nish is correct. Thanks to everyone who helped out this year! Paul handled the permits and road signs again. Registration would have been a total nightmare without Carla s help. Thanks so much! Thanks to Lavender, Cindy and Amanda for taking care of food and beverages at the fi nish line. Gayle was out at the turn-around water station. Jack West and President Timek helped at the fi nish line. Thanks to you all! Last but not least thanks to Yoon who loves chocolate milk and in his spare time talked North Korean madman Yoon Jong Un into halting his nuclear weapons program. Thanks! The Master s Race is always two weeks before the Avenue. See you next year. Bob T.
