2 Physical Science: Unit Conversions Name Conantucki Island On the far away island of Conantucki, money does not exist. Instead, the locals trade goods to obtain any necessary supplies. King Cannoni wishes to prepare a great birthday party for his people, and needs to trade to get all of his supplies. Use the following trade values below to help him organize. 1 pig = 4 ducks 3 rabbits = 2 chickens 1 chicken = 4 loaves of bread 6 ducks = 4 chickens 5 rabbits = 1 live bear 10 ducks = 1 live elephant 1. King Cannoni loves bacon. If he has 12 rabbits to trade, how many pigs will he get? 2. Wanting to make bacon sandwiches, King Cannoni must trade for bread. How many loaves of bread will he get for nine rabbits? 3. How many pigs will the king get for nine rabbits? 4. The king is all out of rabbits, so he must trade his pet bears. How many loaves of bread can the king get for his three bears? 5. The king must now trade his pet elephant. How many chickens will one elephant get him? 6. The king immediately regrets trading his elephant. How many pigs must he trade to get his pet elephant back? 7. After the great birthday party, King Cannoni has 20 leftover ducks. How many bears can he get for his 20 ducks?
3 Physical Science: Unit Conversion Name WS2: One-Step Conversions Use the following conversions to answer the questions: 1 foot = 12 inches 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5284 feet 1 meter = 100 centimeters 1 kilometer = 1000 meters Racing Randy competes in all different types of races. Since all the races are different, they all use different types of units! Help Randy by converting these units. 1. Randy s first race is a potato sack race that is 410 meters long. How many kilometers is the potato sack race? 2. After the potato sack race, Randy needs to drive to an office chair race that is 20,000 feet away. How many miles does Randy need to travel? 3. The office chair race is 3.8 feet long. How many inches is that? 4. After the office chair race, Randy finds himself pursued by the evil Captain Terror! Randy must swim in order to leave Captain Terror behind. Randy swims 0.05 meters. How many centimeters did Randy swim? 5. After swimming away from Captain Terror, Randy enters a 16 yard downhill couch race. How many feet is the race? 6. Randy wins the downhill couch race by 32 centimeters. How many millimeters is 32 centimeters? 7. Randy s final race is a scooter race. The scooter race is 342 meters long. How many kilometers is the scooter race? 8. Randy finishes the scooter race 47.6 inches in front of Racer Z. How many centimeters did Randy beat Racer X by?
4 Physical Science: Unit Conversion Name WS3: Multi-Step Conversions Use the following conversions to answer the questions. 1 kilogram = pounds 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters 1 pound = 16 ounces 1 mile = 5280 feet 1 mile = kilometers 3 feet = 1 yard 1 kilogram = 1000 grams 1. Convert 100 kilograms to pounds. 2. Convert 10 yards to kilometers. 3. Convert 10 kilometers to feet. 4. Convert one kilogram to ounces. 5. Convert one ounce to kilograms. 6. Convert 30 feet to meters. 7. Convert 110 pounds to kilograms. 8. Convert 1000 centimeters to yards.
5 For the next two questions, you should already know the conversion factors to use! 9. How many seconds are in one day? 10. How many hours are in one year? Use the following conversion factors to answer the question. 1 pig = 4 ducks 3 rabbits = 2 chickens 6 ducks = 4 chickens 11. How many pigs can you get for four rabbits?
