3 Newsletter September 2016 Advanced registration is required for all SMP trips, events & volunteer opportunities. Program events are open only to single Marine and Sailors stationed on Camp Pendleton. Participants who volunteer must register in advance with SMP HQ in order to receive a letter of appreciation. Volunteers must provide their own transportation except for PE fitness Challenge. A signed command permission slip is required for all SMP activities. All activities depart from Semper Fit Headquarters Bldg Unless otherwise stated and require that participants utilize the provided transportation Upcoming SMP Meetings, Trips and Special Events 9/ Monthly SMP Meeting at 33 Area SMP Rec Center, Bldg /2-5 - San Francisco Trip. $ per person includes transportation and 3 night hotel stay in downtown San Francisco. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg 1253 at / Sequoia National Park Camping Trip and Crystal Cave Tour. $60.00 per person includes transportation, camping, meals while in camp and a private group tour of the Crystal Cave. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg 1253 at Sign-ups open. 9/ SMP Beach Day. Free event, pre-registration is required to plan for food. A day of play at Camp Pendleton Del Mar Beach. Free use of kayaks, stand up paddle boards and surfboards. Lunch provided. Group meets at the pebble beach (behind cottages 614 and 615) at Bring your swim suits, towels and sunscreen. 9/28 - Potato Chip Rock Hike. $5.00 per person, pre-registration is required to plan for food. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg 1253 at /1 - Tour De Pendleton. $10.00 for Active Duty includes race bib, t-shirt, Gatorade, snacks, and race access. Cycling event riding from the Northernmost point of Camp Pendleton through Basilone and down to Las Pulgas covering varying routes of 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles. Register at 10/7-9 - Las Vegas Trip. $ per person includes transportation, and 3 night hotel stay on the Las Vegas strip. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg 1253 at Sign-ups open Sept. 6th. 10/14 - La Brea Tar Pits. $5.00 per person includes transportation. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg 1253 at Sign-ups open Sept. 6th. SMP Volunteer Opportunities Retirement Home Visits. Have dinner with the residents. Bravos are the requested uniform for these events. Max of 6-10 volunteers needed for each opportunity. 4 9/14 & 9/ Base Stables Volunteer Day. Camp Pendleton Stables, bldg Participants will help clean and groom horses, clean stalls, and help with general maintenance at the stables. Uniform of the day is civilian attire. Closed toed shoes are required. A maximum of 10 participants are needed for this opportunity. Participants must sign up prior to the event. 9/23 P.E. Fitness Challenge. Volunteers will host an all day fitness challenge at a local Middle school. All volunteers must meet at Semper Fit Headquarters at Please eat breakfast before you arrive. Dress attire is the Marine Corps Running Suit with green PT shorts and plain skivvy shirt underneath. Lunch will be provided. 40 volunteers needed. 10/21 P.E. Fitness Challenge. MCCS Activities 9/07 - CG's Cup Combat Water Polo Tournament. Registration begins at 0730 at the 13 Area Pool. This 7 vs 7 tournament will be played in the shallow end of the pool. Cammies and boots are mandatory. 10 players max per team. Earn CG Cup points for your unit. For more information contact the intramural sports office at /07 - CG's Cup Dive Competition. Registration begins at 0730 at the 13 Area Pool. Participants will perform 4 dives. Front dive, front flip, cannon ball and creative freestyle dive. This is a separate event from Combat Water Polo and will be held at the same time. Participants will need to wear a bathing suit. Event will be held in the deep end of the pool. Earn CG Cup points for your unit. For more information contact the intramural sports office at /16 - CG's Cup Water Warrior Relay Challenge. Come out an earn CG cup points for your unit by participating in the challenge. The event includes a 5k or 10k SUP, paddleboard, outrigger canoe or surf ski races, a 1 mile harbor swim, and our signature Amphibious Assault SUP race which includes land and water obstacles. For more information contact the race office at 725-RACE. 9/17 - Water Warrior Amphibious Assault. The event includes a 5k or 10k SUP, paddleboard, outrigger canoe or surf ski races, a 1 mile harbor swim, and our signature Amphibious Assault SUP race which includes land and water obstacles. Kids races, a vendor village and military displays round out a day of racing. 9/24-6 on 6 Volleyball Tournament. This is an adult co-ed tournament held at the Paige Fieldhouse. Registration is from Tournament is from and is self officiated. Open for active duty, spouses, dependents and authorized DoD personnel stationed aboard Camp Pendleton.
