3 How about something different this year, like dropped off in Sausalito and run back? Or a run around the Presidio or the Golden Gate Park? What are the best local runs? Jul 31, :34 AM in response to: James Harter I don't know how far people like to run, but I've done a few of the following: Start at Moscone and head up Mission to the Embarcadero then along the bay -- this is a nice route. If you follow that up to Broadway and back down Kearny, which turns into 3rd and runs by Moscone Center, you'll have a nice short loop -- 3 miles or so. If you take Embarcadero all the way to Fisherman's Wharf, that's about 3 miles -- you can turn around and come back along the bay to maximize "bay-time" To the Cannery (past the wharf, near the cable car turnaround) and back via Powell St. is roughly 5.25 miles. 3

5 John Troyer replied on Twitter that there was going to be one this year. If I recall correctly, the Las Vegas one didn't get publicized until a couple of weeks prior to the event last year. I guess we should just be patient. Last year in Vegas it was also $110 - but the bus trip was like 45 min each way to red rock vally. As far as I remember, the last time in SF there was both a 5k and 10k run and it went over the bridge. I understand fuel costs, but wow, that is a lot for a 5K and some water. Considering this is an open course and it is a "Fun" run you would think the cost for transportation and even shirts could have been off loaded by sponsors. I am sure EMC, HP, Dell or I don't know some of the hundreds of vendors at the Exhibit Hall would love to have their names plastered on a hundred or so runners shirts. That is what sponsor ship is all about, but oh well. I still have people ask about my Virtual Run shirt at my runners club. It is cheap 8

9 marketing in the long run. Keep your customer base happy and they will tell others, make them upset and they will tell everyone. I will try and get a couple runs in while I am in town. I did not see any contact information on the registration form. It might be to late for them to fix this... but I'd wager the attendance would go up by at least 200% if they could line up a sponsor (cough VMware, cough EMC) to make the cost reasonable! Somebody is out of touch with how the recreational running ecosystem works. Surely a bunch of tech companies have deeper pockets to sponsor these kind of things than water and shoe companies! I'd like to know which ones would refuse to sponsor an event like this. 10
