2 Changes to Sunday on the Deck A meeting of the Providore s sub committee was held recently. Suggestions from that meeting were tabled at last week's management meeting and the following changes were ratified. These changes have been made in consideration of the fantastic volunteers that give up their Sunday to serve us a lovely lunch while we enjoy the wonderful view from our club s deck. We will now be offering three choices when it comes to burgers on Sunday. The burger choices will now include our already firm favourite, beef, and in addition, a Flame Grilled Chicken Breast as well as a Sweet Potato and Lentil Vegetarian Burger will now be available. We will also have for sale a Sunday Special if there has been food carried over from Friday night. Cut off time for lunch orders will be 1.30pm so that the kitchen can be cleaned and volunteers gone by about 2pm. If members are involved in water activities, they should order before going out so that their lunch is ready for them upon return. There will be a slight price increase for our burgers. They will now be $8.00 which is still excellent value for money.
3 Tingira Dragon Boats / Outrigger Canoes Session Times The Dragon Boat or Outrigger Canoe sessions scheduled for the week are as follows: Thursday 27-10:00am Sunday 30-11:30am (1 st Session) 1:00pm (2 nd Session) Please check Facebook during the week for any changes. Some of our paddlers will be doing their boating licences then, so good luck to them all. Please contact Lynne Turner or Peter Hayward for information regarding Dragon Boat or Outrigger Canoe activities at the Tingira Boat Club. Tingira Boat Club Sailing Our next off-the-beach sailing session at Tingira will be held on Sunday 30 September from 11:00am - 3:00pm. The rostered safety boat crew is Rob Corbett and Moss Lane. High Tide: 2.14m at 1:09pm (Pott s Point)
4 Tingira BoatSafe Course Held on Sunday A BoatSafe training course was held at Tingira last Sunday 23 September. The course was conducted by two instructors (Colin and Reece) from Bayside Boat Licensing. Both are Queensland Transport BoatSafe endorsed instructors. It was an early start for those attending the course in order to make the best of the early morning high tide. The course consisted of a theory session held indoors, covering a wide range of boating topics and a practical session conducted out on the water. The weather was perfect for the practical session which had the participants enjoying a trip out on the bay in bright sunshine and calm seas - perfect! The course was completed by early afternoon with our 11 attendees successful in obtaining their qualification to apply for a Recreational Marine Driver s License (RMDL) Both instructors (Colin and Reece) were impressed with our Club s facilities and vowed to make a return visit in the near future to attend a Friday night members dinner. Sunday s weather was perfect for the practical session out on the water.

6 Intro by Peter Deane our new Sailing Master There will be another sailing day this Sunday at the club, with the continuation of the small boat racing calendar, which includes social sailing. When: Sunday September 30 Time: First race commencing at approx. 11:00 am High tide is at 1:09 pm (2.14 m) Just a short introduction to anyone who hasn t met me - my name is Peter Deane, and I have a passion for sailing and boating. I hope to continue the fantastic work implemented by Moss and the other committee members. However, without the support of the many members who contribute their time and expertise to water events, we would not have such a great boat club. I am hopeful that I can count on your continued support. I will try to add a few ideas as sailing master and am open to any thoughts you might have. As a continuation of the boating theme, I hope to feature each week a water craft currently owned by a club member. Whether you sail, motor or paddle it, we will try to feature it. I know we have a fantastic assortment of vessels among the members, so do me a favour and a photo and brief description of your vessel to (pkdeane@bigppond.com). As a start, I have featured a boat I recently bought. Boat Member s Vessel: Peter Deane s 10ft Skiff Marina I now own a 10ft historic skiff made of strip cedar, ash and silky oak (I think). These were first raced in the early 1900 s and were the forerunner of the 18ft skiffs today. After some maintenance, I hope to be sailing Marina down at the club before too long. My thanks have to go to Peter Fox and Bruce Legg for assistance in finding and acquiring it. Cheers, Peter D.
